Elemental Training: Fire

Shiro stepped onto the training grounds, where the Fire Training ground stretched out before him—a vast, open space enclosed by a high stone wall, with a structure that seemed to reach toward the sky. The air here had a distinct heat, even before the fires began. Burnt soil stretched across the field, while scattered fire pits and practice targets dotted the area, waiting for the day's training.

Around him, other students were getting ready for the session, murmuring in low voices. They were here for a challenge, yet they couldn't hide their excitement. Shiro’s eyes swept over the place, noting the energy in the air.

Korin was somewhere waiting for him to finish his Fire training. The Fire training had a different feel from the others; it felt quite raw, powerful, and alive. He took a deep breath, the air warm and thick with the scent of smoke.

A loud, clear voice interrupted the buzz. “Alright, everyone!” It was their instructor, a tall, sturdy woman with a red cherry like skin and fierce amber eyes that seemed to reflect the very element she commanded.

“My name is Miss Huoyan, I'll be your Fire trainer.” She introduced as she walked confidently in front of them, every step radiating the authority that she commanded.

“Welcome to your fire training. Fire isn’t just another element. It's the most important element and you should be lucky to be able to control it.” She uttered.

Shiro chuckled in his mind as he remembered he could control all four elements.

“It’s fierce, quick to spark, and if not controlled, it can consume everything!!” she continued, her gaze scanning over each student, “But, Fire can also be your most powerful ally.”

A supernatural standing beside Shiro, nudged him with a grin. “Ready to set the place ablaze, human boy??”

Shiro's mind drifted to the Air incident but just grinned back. “I’ve been waiting for this one.”

Miss Huoyan started calling on students to demonstrate basic exercises, conjuring small flames and controlling their intensity. Shiro watched closely, noting how some managed to summon flames easily, while others struggled to produce even a flicker.

It was now Shiro’s turn. He felt a strange, unexpected calm. Almost as if fire was second nature to him. He extended his hand, summoning the image of flames in his mind, imagining the way they should feel, the warmth, the flickering light. And then, almost effortlessly, a brilliant flame sparked in his palm, crackling to life, bright and fierce.

The students around him gasped, some even taking a few steps back, their eyes wide with astonishment.

“Whoa!!”

“How did he do that!!.!” some students said, their voice laced with awe.

“He's the chosen one of course he….”

Shiro shrugged, feeling a strange sense of surprise. “I... I don’t know. It just happened.” he said looking at his hands.

Miss Huoyan stepped forward, studying the flame in his hand with an intense, calculating expression. “Impressive, Shiro. Very impressive. Not many manage such control on their first try.”

Encouraged by her words, Shiro willed the flame to grow, and with hardly any effort, the fire expanded, swirling with a life of its own. He twisted his fingers, guiding the flames into shapes—a spiraling dragon, then a pair of wings flaring out, lighting up the entire training ground. He didn't know how it happened but it was happening.

The other students clapped, a few even cheering as he let the fire vanish. For the first time, Shiro felt like he belonged, like he was meant to do this.

A student gave him a hearty pat on the back. “Look at you, Fire Master Shiro! First-day fire talent!”

Miss Huoyan looked at Shiro, her expression one of intrigue. “The fire knows you, Shiro. Don’t waste it. I'd love to see you keep that level of control.”

As they wrapped up the session, everyone was still buzzing about Shiro’s fire display, with Korin who was so proud of him. Just as they were about to leave the training grounds, Mrs Rena appeared, her elegant robes flowing in the gentle breeze. She moved with a calm grace that made even the rowdiest students quiet down.

“Shiro,” she called softly, her voice carrying across the ground. “That was impressive.”

Shiro blushed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Thank you, Mrs. Rena.”

“You have a talent with fire,” she continued. “And there’s still so much more to learn.” She gestured toward a towering stone archway at the far end of the training grounds. Beyond it, a small, hidden area glimmered with an otherworldly light. “Let me show you something.”

Curious, Shiro followed her, Korin tagging along behind. As they stepped under the arch, Shiro’s eyes widened. This part of the training ground was unlike anything he’d seen before. Small, floating stones orbited one another in slow, silent circles, glowing faintly with colors that shifted from cool blue to fiery orange, then to deep green and violet. It was peaceful yet charged with energy.

“This,” Mrs. Rena explained, “is where the most advanced students train—those who have mastered one element and those who can master more than one. They are the ones who Serevaal have prepared to help us against The Dark One, our Supernaturals.” Her gaze softened as she looked at Shiro. “If you keep working, you could be here sooner than you think.”

Shiro stared in awe, taking it all in. “Really? Me?”

Mrs. Rena nodded. “Yes. Of course. You learn quite fast, Shiro but remember, it’s not an easy path. Mastering all elements is hectic,” She advised as they watched them practice.

A sense of responsibility settled on Shiro’s shoulders, both thrilling and daunting and as they turned to leave, he couldn’t help but glance back at the training grounds, his heart racing with a new determination.

His journey was still beginning, and with what he displayed at the fire training, he's more determined than ever.
