And with those words, he left the table, opening the door and waiting, while an officer let him out, before proceeding to escort him to his cell.

When director Edward turned to him, Lut's first impulse was to duck. He had never seen the man so angry. Whatever relationship that he and Dylan shared, it had been deeper than he imagined.

But to him, it was just a testament of how men could bend to change the truth. For him, he didn't care about friendship and believed in doing the right thing.

“Lut, I'm highly disappointed in the way you've handled this matter, and I'll see to it that your father is told about your character once he's back from Washington. Do you know what you've brought upon the company with this action of yours? We don't need this kind of publicity.”

Lutenant didn't reply.

To him, it was good publicity. A company defending its worker and making sure that justice was served. What more did the director want?

“Look, I'm sorry, Ariel. I only want what is best for us. We're getting married soon, we need to have something bigger than just my agency and your salon skills. Don't you think so?”She glared at him in anger, then shook her head.“Things sort themselves out, Richard. It was always going to be alright in the end. You know this. The fact that you still decide to act as though finances were more important than I was was glaring. It was that bad, Richard.”Richard smiled, nodded and then made a move as if to touch her.She stood up, and then grabbed the tray that contained her breakfast, eyebrows narrowed in anger.“Don't, Richard, don't. Apologize properly. I deserve that. If we're going to do this, then you need to treat me better.”With those words, she left the dining room, leaving him to himself. He turned to Mrs Johnson, who sat in the next room, the sitting room, watching television but had certainly observed everything that had happened.Turning away from her in anger, he reache

He had heard such amounts before, but not before him. Most times, he didn't even have a say in what was going on. But this time was different. Mr Johnson was edging towards four hundred million dollars, but was still standing on five hundred as his negotiation start up price. The man was the well known Claude Peterson. “Thank you so much.” Aurora wanted to open whatever was in the bag immediately, but she decided within herself that it was going to be more polite if she looked at it later. “Thank you again, sir.” Lutenant's father looked at her, his eyebrow raised in surprise. “We bought that for you for lunch. Won't you take a look at what is inside?” She smiled, her hand going to the back of her neck instinctively. If someone had told her last year that at this same time, she would be attracted to the CEO’s handsome son and that the CEO would be in her house, gifting her lunch, she would've called the person a liar. But it was happening before her eyes at the moment. She opened the plastic bag, then hesitantly brought out the chocolate cake and the burrito in it. She didn't want to eat in front of them. “She's shy, dad.” Lut said, smiling wistfully at her. “Well, who wouldn't be? It's not everyday

For even trying to let people know, thank you, most victims wouldn't have done that.”She nodded again, this time blinking to make sure tears didn't make its way down her eyes.“Trust me when I say we will fight your battle to the end and make sure that justice is served. “Good morning sir. I…I never expected you here. I thought everyone was asleep, that was why I came outside to make the call.”Mr Johnson's smile was huge.“Oh, forget it. I understand you totally. As a teenager back then, I also loved to smoke in solitude. It hits harder, you know.”That wasn't Richard's problem. He was scared. He understood how his call had sounded, and he was wondering if Mr Johnson had overheard him while he had been talking. If the older man had done so, he did a good job of not showing it.“Yes sir.”“So, who were you talking to? Someone else apart from Ariel in the line of women you'd like to marry, huh? Anything that I should know about?”Richard shook his head fiercely.“I love Ariel and would never do anything to hurt her, sir.”Mr Johnson nodded, then smiled.“I understand you perfectly. However, you should know that we are men and we can't change that. We are bound to have urges. We will always think like men, no matter what. That's how it is. You cannot ch

She had to admit, she was tired and needed to sleep, but seeing him made her less tired, sometimes, she couldn't explain the kind of things he did to her.“Yes, I am. I don't know if Natalie will be going back to Carl's place because apparently, he wants to get a place for them both and has started to talk about marriage.”Lut's laughter was muffled and at the same time, loud.“Oh come on, don't tell me that Natalie keeps falling for his tricks every time.”She shrugged, not knowing how to even start.“I've talked about it most of the time with her, but her mind is hell bent on doing what she wants, and I ca

Forty years in marriage and her parents were still going at it. She wanted that type of marriage for herself. She wanted her marriage with Richard to be filled with takes of love and how they had met to tell their unborn children. That was why she had agreed to do the design and decorations in the first place. It made her feel closer to her parents than she already was, and at a point, it was as though she was doing it for herself. It was only a matter of time. Her mother stared at her in the darkness, her white teeth showing despite the fact that all the lights in the room had gone off.“How do I look?”“Beau

A very huge smile, quirky movements, and an occasional slap on the shoulder to Richard. His happiness made Richard happy as well.Mr Johnson was literally his father in-law. A win for the man was a win for him as well.“What do you say, Richard? Do you believe this? I knew that Mr Cleveland was wealthy, but throwing six hundred million at a company that might have a breakdown in five to six years is crazy. When you consider that he'll have to do a lot of improvements, you can see why it's unbelievable for me.”Richard scratched the back of his neck, looking at Mr Johnson matter of factly.“Do you want my honest opinion on this? We take the money and run.”Mr Johnson's laughter was loud, but he muffled it by turning to the balcony, putting his hand over his mouth.“Well, that's why you're not a businessman yet. “Your first day back, and you don't want to have lunch with me? Come on, Aurora.”Aurora stared at him, on the verge of laughing. She had wanted to skip lunch because she knew how much work she had to do. The remnants of the recruitment files were still all over the place, and the earlier she fixed it, the better. She would never understand why director Edward had tried to offer her the position of the leader of the union. Just like that? She was looking forward to leading her quiet life in the sanctuary of her home, and all of a sudden, she was being offered the position of leading a Union?“You're my personal assistant, and you need to be there in case I need your help.”Shrugging, Aurora nodded.“Seems as if I don't have a choice.”“Is this about the meeting? “I'm acting as your father's sales representative. We're finding potential buyers for the company, meeting with them. So far, we've received good offers, but your father holds the key. Only he can decide if he wants to sell or not.”She was looking at his lips so closely that she hadn't heard a word of what he said. Gosh, she had missed him so badly.“What time do I expect you back?”“Going to another party already, huh? You can't go without me this time, I assure you.”She rolled her eyes, punching him playfully across the shoulder.“No. I'll be helping mum to cook today. I think dad has forgotten, but today is their anniversary. He's been busy with everything, and you can't blame him. Mum says she'll love to have the anniversary dinner in the house, a specially prepared meal.”She had said a lot, but in actuality, all she wanted was him in her cold bed before she slept off.“Good. I'll try to convince him to come back early then. Hopefully, this client says something positive.” He s

“Well, I'm sorry. I wasn't myself, and I'm certain we both know why.”Ariel's answer wasn't the best because she knew she was at fault, but she didn't care if the man she was about to marry had fought another man for her sake. He had put her in that position. If he had agreed to at least acknowledge her, she wouldn't have thought about going to the party or getting drunk in the first place. She didn't want to tag it his fault, but she felt that way.“Drink your coffee. It'll help you get yourself better.”She eyed him angrily, then sipped the coffee. She had missed him.Even when she had gone to the party, she had found out to her chagrin that she was badly in love with him. Now, the question was, did he love her as much as she loved him?The question made her pause her drinking for a moment, but she

“Good morning sir.” Hubert, his driver, greeted him with enthusiasm. He looked as if he had been waiting for him all the while. The car key was already in the ignition, and the man looked ready to peel the car into the road and begin driving at a speed that pleased him, which was Hubert's customary way of driving.Lutenant didn't care much about the way he was going to reach work that day. He preferred Hubert driving him because no matter how fast he drove, he was able to slow down before the police noticed that he was going past the speed limit. It was a fun thing to do.Hopefully, he never got caught because Lut knew how difficult it was getting the police to believe that he hadn't intended to drive past the speed limit.A few minutes later, he was out of the car as it had stopped in the garage of the consortium. Leaving the car, he made his way into the elevator, which took him directly to his office. As soon as he opened the door, he was hit by the strong scent of Aurora's perfum

  • A befitting welcome

Before Aurora got to work that morning, she was surprised to see the door open a few minutes after she had sent her best friend the text regarding her moving from the hotel back to the house.“Natalie? I didn't expect you so soon.”Her best friend looked as though life with Carl had its perks. She had a bag of groceries from the popular Macmillan store in one hand, and in another was a box of pizza.“I decided to jump in, arrange my things. I'll be going back to Carl's this evening. Did I tell you he is planning to get a place so that we can start life afresh? He's also planning something huge for my birthday. I don't know what it is yet, but I know that he has something planned.”Aurora didn't comment, knowing how difficult her best friend could be most times. Natalie and misinterpretations were a normal occurrence. The last thing she wanted was her best friend quarreling with her over something that was irrelevant.Such as Carl and his inability to stick to one relationship.“Well,
