Chapter: Chapter 40: For The Shard! II
Arlosse snorted.“Now’s the right time?” he said, but his thoughts were busy with everything else that the young human warrior had said.A great human Emperor? The mention of another authority figure spurred Arlosse’s mind. This place, the entirety of the ten Floors he was supposed to go through, was called Bahathraden, the Compound Demesne of Fallen Authorities. Did it mean that the nature of each Floor would revolve around an authority figure? A King, a Queen, an Emperor, a Lord, a Prince and whatnot? That seemed to be the theme. But this Triayt the Unbecoming was long dead. Did that mean Arlosse didn’t have to interact with the authority in focus within the Floor? Was he, perhaps, meant to grapple with the ideals left behind by Triayt? The story the young warrior had shared so far, was livid with Triayt’s ideals. The bastard had actually informed the demons about this relic, the Last Shard, which he had hidden away to ‘deliver the world’. What did that even mean? But then…‘I’m a d

Chapter: Chapter 39: For The Shard! I
A young human soldier had appeared, begging for his life, tears spilling from his eyes which bulged at the sight of Arlosse. He shook and retreated to the wall of the protrusion, looking as though he’d seen a ghost. The degree of terror in his eyes intensified tenfold.Arlosse raised a brow. What had this young man expected to see when he leaped out pleading for his life? Was he, Arlosse, that ugly? The Incarnate looked closely at the trembling mess of a man.The young man had dirty blonde hair, a square-ish face and downturned, brown eyes. He was wearing a surprisingly high-quality armour. It didn’t look as though it had weathered through any conflict at all in the last three hours and however long the battle had been raging on before Arlosse showed up.Curious…The Incarnate didn’t let his guard down at the sight of this human, but he didn’t feel enough of a threat from him to keep his sword pointing at his face.He scoffed and muttered, “You look like you haven’t spent a day on the

Chapter: Chapter 38: Sacrifice
The tall demon was adorned in a scale armor that featured bursts of rugged, brown fur at the joints on his steel bracers and just above his greaves. What looked like a scarf of braided blonde human hair was wound around its neck, pairing beautifully with his pale, yellow skin. The demon was rather handsome. He had sharp features on his face that were all nearly human-like except for two small extra eyes on either side of his face. His long, dark hair cast a shadow over his face and as he looked from the hulking warrior to Arlosse, his fury was unmistakable. The great, bloody battle axe in his hand was suddenly suffused by a raging crimson tide of energy the likes of which the Incarnate had yet to see on any demon much less a weapon.“What is going on here, hybrid?” he said in a sharp tone, his blood-red eyes constricting on Arlosse’s figure. “I desperately wish, for your sake, things are not as they appear.”Arlosse stammered. He wanted to speak and quickly explain, but something abou

Chapter: Chapter 37: Save The Horse
The moment Arlosse saw the horse and took in its deep desire to protect its master despite being injured, a thought rapidly sprang up in his mind; it was something that he had been introduced to rather recently. The Bond System. After completing the First Floor, he was given a new privilege that allowed him to create bonds with living creatures and have them accompany him on his trials to become the Hateful Demon Tyrant. At once, the Incarnate imagined himself astride the large white horse as its master, having completed the conditions required to earn its loyalty and invoke the Host Guide’s Bond System. It was a fleeting image, but it was wonderful indeed. The Incarnate felt a tug at his heart… hearts. Perhaps, a greater contributing factor to how he was suddenly compelled to charge forth and kill the demons now attempting to breach the tall walls of ice the white horse had created, was that he had also had a loyal horse he had known for a time in his previous life. The horse had bee

Chapter: Chapter 36: Taking A Moment
Three hours passed on the battlefield, and to the Hollow Demonling’s surprise, the fighting only intensified. The humans had been indeed put at a disadvantage when the great horn sounded, most of them – the weaker ones, Arlosse had noticed – pushed to retreat to safety. However, while rallying around powerful human warriors whom the Demonling heard being called Tenet Commanders, the human forces found their footing once again and charged, ripping the frenzied demons to pieces with clever formations.Arlosse had watched without openly engaging for a while. He needed to learn more about the nature of this conflict. What was the Shard his fellow abomination had referenced? What were the staves issuing the golden beams of light? While trying to figure these things out, Arlosse had used Reform to heal the wound on his back, which, thanks to his ability to not bleed out – which was further reinforced by the recently earned 225 points to his Spirit Essence – hadn’t caused problems too great

Chapter: Chapter 35: Boorish Frenzy!
The blaring sound of the horn, so mighty it caused the ground to tremble, came to a sudden halt, puzzling Arlosse. What was that sound? Why was the abomination beside him along with the other demons getting so excited because of it?What was the shroud of crimson the Hollow Demonling was seeing, brimming around each and every one of them? Why was he untarnished by this energy?Arlosse didn’t know what to think. Even the mount he and the caterpillar-mantis were riding was coated in this curious energy, and, though it might have been a mistake, the Demonling felt the galloping beast’s muscles toughen up.Eager and curious, Arlosse sought the source of the blaring noise that had prompted everything. With quite some difficulty, he turned and surveyed the battlefield. It took him a few moments, but soon, he spotted it. It indeed was a horn, as far as he could see – a gigantic horn whose details he could hardly see.The horn was far, far away, roughly four kilometers south; its location was

Chapter: Chapter 7: The Time Is Ripe!
The full moon that peeked from behind the dark clouds which traced the starry sky, announced that it was time.Desmas felt it.The time was ripe! His grip on the object in his hand tightened as he took in deep breaths as if to swallow the entire Watering Hole through his nostrils. After the feasting of the cow, he had grabbed one of the poor creature's bones and tucked it under his tunic. He shook like a leaf, not only from the cold which was barely hindered from fondling his flesh by the patches of hay he hid in but from fright. With this deed, he could never return to normalcy. Many a dead body had he seen, yet not one of them hailed from the works of his hands. All around the circular expanse that was lit up by the moonlight, the other slaves tossed and turned in their sleep while others simply could not find it within themselves to shut their eyes and retire to the singular fantasy that they had left.Desmas rose slowly, the stalks of dry grass falling from his figure.Thick veins

Chapter: Chapter 6: The Ruined
The loud calls around, emboldened by adrenaline and aggressive vigour rocked Trodden as he was held by one of the soldiers. He saw the cheering, well-built men and women that shouted with their fists raised and quivered in the wake of their collective valour. The pride and joy burning in the hearts of the soldiers before him was a marvel that he had not needed while trying to fasten the remainders of his courage. The remnants of his hope. For this night was written to be his last. After the bald man had informed his soldiers of the good news, he then addressed the centrepiece of the good news, the one who sparked the early incitation of this merry, all eyes turning to stab at Trodden who shrank under."This man is the sacrifice that the lord has chosen. He shall be kept here for the night. Treat him as you would a rat at the end of its life," Derrecks said with a sneer.Raucous laughter boomed from the soldiers. For they saw Trodden as naught but one of the many anomalies in the Outer

Chapter: Chapter 5: Balgruum The Unblooded
Atop a lengthy and sturdy table that extended far beyond the seats of those currently dining over its surface, a lone man stood out as he fed elegantly on the warm and delicious food in his plate, occasionally sipping from the goblet at his side that held a crimson liquid. As for his appearance, his physical stature alone would require a ballad that sang of his lustrous, flowing burgundy hair that only halted their descent at his shoulders, a tall frame that demanded for his seat to be different from that of others even at the dining table, robust muscles that bulged like swells under beige coloured skin on every part of his body that did not taste cloth and rough little hairs with a light red hue which grew atop his flesh like grasses.Over his heart-shaped face, hooded eyes with a marble grey sheen could be seen along with a button nose below that twitched from time to time as he passed food into his mouth that was enclosed by a light stubble.Trodden's saliva slid down his throat a

Chapter: Chapter 4: Dreaded Audience
Aneus gazed above with a forlorn expression, taking in the circular covering of darkness that focused his sight to the many stars that littered the night sky.He sat on the ground, at the very bottom of the Watering Hole while lost in thought, his mind tunnelling towards one instance where he had felt disgusted with a certain friend of his.The hundred meter stretch of distance that he and his fellow mates had to climb to reach the surface where all activity in the Ruined Hold took place was above him, the circular opening that he gazed at brimming with a limited luminance that partly shone on him and a few of the hundreds that sat along with, their faces painted red from the earlier feed at the Feeding Rite. This was the life of those that slaved away at the behest of the evils in the Rings.Aneus shook from the chilling cold of the night and retreated to the patches of hay that were sprinkled in this hole that he and his mates called home, seeking warmth in the food of hooved animal

Chapter: Chapter 3: And So He Fed
What would emerge from a mix of hunger and fear? What would triumph?Trodden's throat favoured hunger while his mind, aided by his eyes supported the fear, urging him to back away and cower like a rat.Yet, there would be no suspense, for the result was clear. That which was aided by the screeching voice that sang profanity and vanity in his head won, inducing the young 17-year-old to build up strength in his knees and thighs, gazing intently at the short man who walked briskly towards him.Hunger triumphed. A foreign concept to Trodden, but one which he yielded to in reality. He needed to feed.Like a beast, he eyed the brown-coloured ball he saw floating within the head of the short shadow that approached. He saw not the whip that was held, which was a threat to him. Just the eye that he foresaw to taste divine. The slaves wrestling over the long-dead cow paused as a thick tension built up around the soldier and slave.Aneus who had his mouth painted in blood peeked from the crow

Chapter: First Act (8)
(A/N: Beware of the stuff we talked about). It was only after the blade of the dagger tasted the flesh of a human that James felt the unnerving sensation and withdrew quickly. He was in a dark grid box. Again, his senses were suppressed, vision and hearing entirely useless altogether. He had gone for the kill, anticipating that it was just the same as killing a chicken. However, the reality was different. It was enough to tear him out of his reverie. James took deep breaths. That sensation. He could never forget it. The vibration of the blade as it carved through the skin and flesh. The rough yet thick feeling of the blade that travelled through his hand, spelling out that it was not the weapon but him who was using it that was accountable. It made him stop. <

The tension in the room was so thick that one could almost touch. Everyone was trying to wrap their heads around the situation and figure out what to do.Some had already resigned to their fate warily gazing at others, trying to determine which of the other participants could be the biggest threat. The diverse reactions among the people represented the different attitudes and convictions that they had cultivated throughout their lives; the die hard, the quick to give in, those who lost it entirely.Among the sixteen people in the warehouse, most could be said to already have given up on getting out of this alive, after all, fiction may be made up, but it is based on real life events most of the time.James slumped down and took a deep breath. The thought of his grandmother suffering even for a minute hurt him.She could barely walk as it is, her one feature that spelled out loud that she was alive, being her eternally yammering mouth.
