Chapter Eleven
“Are you sure she won’t mind?”   Aiden had said he was taking her somewhere nobody would be able to find her - to his mothers. Charlie had been worrying for the entire journey. Hanging out with a stranger was one thing but temporarily living with one, was another thing entirely. What if she was a deadly mafia assassin, too?   “She won’t mind. I can guarantee it,” Aiden said, knocking on the door to a house.   “Aiden! What have I said about knocking? Come in. Come in,” Sarah beamed.   “Thank you,” Charlie said as she followed Aiden inside.   “It’s about time he found himself a beautiful woman,” Sarah whispered as she closed the

Chapter Twelve
Sarah shook like an autumn leaf as she stood at the edge of the portal at Stonehenge. She could feel the power emanating from the invisible shift in the air and knew that all she had to do was place her hand inside and she would be pulled home. She hadn't been inside Fairie since her father had ordered her permanent banishment but Aiden was relying on her to at least try. Shaking off the nerves, Sarah inhaled and stepped into the gap between two of the upright stones.    Her breath instantly caught as her feet touched the soft grass of Faerie. She had spent far too many years looking at the green hills and valleys of Salisbury that she had almost forgotten how beautiful Faerie was. Scores of pink and orange hues filled the cloudless sky. Seemingly endless fruit trees that stood in fields of greens and yellows, twinkled with lights from the fairy homes within their branches. She could see

Chapter Thirteen
“This is a surprise. I would offer you a drink, but as you know, I only drink with friends and business associates.” If Aiden was any other person, Rafael's cold shoulder would have had him shaking from head to foot. He had built his reputation on being brutal with his enemies and making examples of those who wronged him.  “Raf, you know…” “Don Hernandez,” Rafael cut him off. “That’s my name to you. Remember it.” Aiden suppressed the eye roll. He could see Rafael was already pissed and antagonising the situation wouldn’t help. “As you wish, Don Hernandez. You know that if I could have completed the contract, I would have done but she’s your daughter.” “You suddenly seem

Chapter Fourteen
“Come on, Aiden. We’ve been cooped up for weeks. What’s the worst that can happen?” Charlie said. “It’s only a few drinks in the pub. Go out and enjoy yourselves,” Sarah said. Charlie looked at Aiden eagerly then thigh fived Sarah when he nodded. He wasn’t much of a drinker or one for socialising but things had been oddly quiet and almost normal for the last few weeks since he had left Rafael's villa.  “I’ll go get ready, then,” Charlie said, practically bouncing out of the living room door.  Aiden waited to hear her footsteps upstairs then asked, “Did you visit the circle?”  “I did,” Sarah sighed. “It was what I expected it to be. The King refused to lift the binding. I’m still powerless to help protect h

Chapter Fifteen
“Shush! Sarah will hear and think we’re up to something good but I don’t mind if you throw me on that bed.” Aiden tried to ignore the way Charlie bit her lip, the same way he had tried to ignore her flirtatious teasing as he carried her back to Sarah’s.  “She isn’t home,” he said, kicking the bedroom door closed. “Ha, ha! Perfect. In that case, we can be as noisy as you like.” A shudder ran down his spine as Charlie ran her fingers through his hair and gently tugged his face towards hers. “I know you want this, Aiden.” She reached up with her other hand, gripping his chin forcefully.  “Charlie, I…”  A burst of electricity ran through his body at the touch of h

Chapter Sixteen
“Good morning,” Sarah said as Charlie walked into the kitchen. “Coffee is in the pot.” “Thank you. I didn’t wake you when I got in last night, did I?” Aiden had said Sarah wasn’t home but after the amount of noise Aiden had made her make, she wanted to make sure. “Oh, no. I wasn’t home and you were flat out by the time I strolled in. End up a little wide for wear, did you?” Charlie smirked and took a sip of her coffee. “Is everything okay? With you being out so late, I mean,” Charlie asked.  Sarah grabbed the freshly popped toast and smiled as she held out a slice for Charlie to take. “Everything is fine, don’t worry, honey. I just had some Faery things to do, that’s all. It kept me out a little late but then, it usually does. How was your night?” Read more
Chapter Seventeen
“I’m going to take a shower. You’re welcome to join me,” Aiden said, placing a kiss on Charlie’s forehead.   “Hmm, that sounds wonderful but I promised Sarah I would go shopping with her and then help her bake.” “Shoved over for cookie dough, huh?” Charlie laughed and prodded her belly, “Of course! This hot body of mine needs a lot of care and attention, you know.” “Hmm, it is a very, very hot body. I have to agree,” Aiden said as he leaned forward and kissed her naked belly button. “Behave. You’ve already had enough this morning and last night, too, for that matter,” Charlie said, kissing his lips as she dived out of bed. “Are you not going to answer that?”    Read more
Chapter Eighteen
Sarah's heart raced as she stood at the corner of the street. It had been years since she had been in the tiny village but it hadn’t changed at all. She could see the house that she needed to go to, but her feet were rooted to the pavement. “Now I know where Aiden gets it from,” she said to herself. “Are you just going to stand there all day or are you coming in?” Sarah smiled at the voice from behind her. It hadn’t changed at all, neither had the way her stomach fluttered when he was near her. “Good to see you, Benjamin. You’re looking well.” “As opposed to normally looking ill?” He said. “I’m guessing this isn’t a social call, is it?” There was no denying the hope in his v

Chapter Nineteen
Aiden shuffled his foot as he waited for Sarah and Charlie to appear from the building that housed Sarah's office. She had gone to arrange emergency personal leave, ready for the road trip to Scotland. It had been almost half an hour but there was no sign of them at all. Filled with concern, he crossed the road to look for them, then stopped. There was something in the air, something different about the way it smelled.   “Wolf,” he mumbled.   His stomach flooded to bursting, with a mix of fear and worry, while his mind wouldn’t stop with ‘what if' as he followed the scent. Trying to convince himself that he was overreacting, he rounded the corner onto an empty street. The scent grew stronger with each step that he took, but then suddenly faded when he'd walked halfway down the street. Aiden looked around in confusion, then backtracke

Chapter Twenty
As soon as he stepped outside, Aiden heard a heart-stopping snarl that sent every hair on his body standing on end. He had just enough time to dive out of the way of the huge brown wolf, as it came hurtling towards him with all its teeth bared and saliva dripping from its muzzle.    “Holy shit!”    Aiden scrambled to his feet and ran to the corner of the pub where he crouched low, waiting to see what the wolf would do next. He didn’t need to wait long. The wolf pushed off from the tarmac, its powerful back legs propelling it into the air towards Aiden. His heart thudded in his chest and ears as the huge front paws loomed towards him. Aiden ran forward, towards the snarling wolf, then dropped to his back on the tarmac. Raising his legs, he put all his strength into making his feet connect with the wolf’s soft underbelly. The
