Chapter 72.2
The moment Ronan opened the small door to Luren's shop, a rumbling purr ripped across the floor, waking Dulan as Puff forced himself into Luren's lap and earned himself the privilege of a premium cheek massage. Ronan could see Luren thinking, his gaze flicking between the three teens for a fraction of a second."What can I do for you all today?"Ronan could see a playful attention to Luren's posture, showing that, despite a few gazers skimming the shop, they hadn't come into the middle of something again. With a curt nod he slipped a small list from his pocket, flattening the rippling creases as he approached the counter."I've got a little grocery list."Luren quickly skimmed it, his eyebrows raising as he reached the bottom. "We cooking for someone we really hate?"Ronan shrugged. "Just a friend, you have any of those?"Luren took a moment to think, his head tilting with the passing seconds. "Ouch?""I meant the ingredients on the list."Luren dipped his gaze back to the paper, gear

Chapter 73
Ronan had been cautious about recruiting Alestra and Talli, the thought of his plans reaching unwanted ears plaguing his mind from giving them any real specifics regarding the ritual. But, in contrast to his hesitation, Alestra had cooked up a small batch of pixie lures, strange rough candlesticks that reeked of old cheese with a metallic zing. Talli had held up her end with a list of do's and don'ts in catching pixies, the don'ts dwarfing their partner by a sheet and a half. Now, prepared to collect the second last ingredient, Ronan had discovered a new and unexpected obstacle. Truvius had mentioned that the teachers did not roam the halls through the night, and the safer route of a couple stairways and the closest exit was a tantalising alternative to falling off the roof a second time. However, his attempt failed the moment he opened the door to the silver dorm and found himself facing a bright blue flaming ball with Tella's voice. One of at least twenty floating about the expanse

Chapter 74
This was it. Every hair on the back of Ronan's neck stood on end as the Queen's bellowing roar rattled his ribs. His heartbeat doubled, desperately trying to break from his chest and flee his planted fear. He was going to die here. Trampled and stabbed to death for some stupid magical dust. Puff couldn't fly with him on his back, and it was likely that the dragon would stick with him to the bitter end. With a panicked breath Ronan readied to unleash every spell he knew on the beast, a nest of twigs slowly snapping behind him as the bloodthirsty bucks closed in. He was really going to die. His heart reached a peak of terror, the silver dots returning to swim across his vision and lighten his heavy thoughts to nauseating dizziness. The sickening sensation almost distracted him entirely from noticing the blue ball of flames that shot out to barely miss the Queen's face, colliding with a small pack of unicorns in the distance as they shrieked in terror at the surprise. "Pick on so

Chapter 74.2
Red looked around the scorched battlefield, night barely hindering his ability to see every tiny detail in the shadows. Evidence that gave away what had happened to Ronan. He wiped the speckles of blood that had dribbled down Ronan's chin, his gaze immediately drawn to the glittery dusting coating his bangs.Pixie dust."Shit," Red muttered, twisting around to pull Ronan onto his back. "Just keep breathing until we get to Cobalt." He sighed as Ronan whimpered out a response, tugging down his goggles to colour their path with the heat of their surroundings. He frowned at the view. Heat vision had only been useful for finding Ronan, a daylight filter would do the trick a lot better in getting back.He quickly flicked through the settings, nighttime becoming day through the lens of his goggles, and the giant red blob that was once Puff's heat signature still painted red by a figure looming a couple feet in front of him.Red tensed at the unexpected guest. Ronan was currently racing again

Chapter 75
A rumbling purr carved through Ronan's veil of dreams, a wet nose nudging at his chin for attention as he drearily cracked open his eyes."Jay," he groaned, stopping as his fingers slipped through the cat's coat, longer and rougher hairs than the one he knew. His expression soured as he forced his eyes to focus, the patchy brown cat slamming her forehead against his chin as another request for attention."Ragdoll?"The cat responded with a meow, driving her paws into his chest to massage the area while Ronan took in his surroundings. He wasn't on a bed, but the spacious red couch he'd found himself on certainly wasn't his. Neither was the stretch of woven carpet, nor the embroidered white curtains drawn over an evening washed view of the forest.A scratching pain strained his muscles as he leaned up. The dizzy nausea from last night hadn't subsided, but the pounding headache had softened to a bearable migraine."You're okay..."Drawn to the sound of a voice, Ronan found Phantom, stood

Chapter 76
Were you supposed to swallow them all?" Phantom said, shattering the tune Ronan had been humming all the way to Zalius' tree. He popped a shrug, strangely giddy for his circumstance. "I feel fantastic. This planet has some killer medicine." "Yeah... that's the problem," Phantom muttered, watching the excitement grow in Ronan's eyes as the light of the spirit tree danced in his irises. Like an unruly child he broke into a sprint, arms outstretched to give its scaly trunk a full embrace. "I missed you!" Ronan coughed as his raised tone pricked his throat, clearing it to give out a dryer voice. "Zalius! I need your help!" He skimmed the empty clearing, his excitement dipping to confusion as he walked towards the little hovel Zalius had shown him before. "I need a winter tree branch so I can free Phantom tonight!" Phantom came up beside Ronan as he unstably crunched through the grass. "So were we getting your stuff you left by the pixie pond after this or..." Ronan froze, paying Pha

Chapter 76.2
Ronan rubbed Puff's nose, watching it scrunch as the dragon curled next to his head. Sound asleep to make up for the sleep Ronan hadn't gotten. He had been awake before Carcinos rose, waiting in stilled silence for something to happen. Something like a violent pounding on his door as Sean screamed at him to get up and go straight to Samanthra's office. Or perhaps the door simply unlocking, a troop of breakers pooling in to cuff and escort him to prison.Ronan let out a heavy sigh, knowing that was just his imagination running wild. But he still didn't want to see the mess he'd left himself to clean up."You're awake?"Ronan cracked his eyes open at the sound of Truvius' voice, twisting onto his back to stare at the ceiling. "Yeah. I'm just hoping Red will forget if I stay in my room all day."Truvius laughed out a scoff. "Not likely.""You never know, maybe he hit his golem brain hard enough to scramble a few memories," Phantom chimed, sarcasm rich in his tone with a bite too bitter f

Chapter 77
Six filled chairs before her, Samanthra had a rope around everyone's neck now, and the look on her face meant loosening it wouldn't come easy."The tip Red Peterson provided was proven correct, the room recently disturbed, and an ancient ritual and its used ingredients present." She stopped, focused on the chair at the end of the line that contained a shivering Talli. Spared from the weakest link by ignorance. "Ms. Fray, were you aware of this room's existence?"She pursed her lips, staring up at the headmaster like a deer in headlights. "No..."Veronica frowned as Samanthra took one step to stand before her, the same question lingering in the dead air. "I don't know what you're talking about.""She's lying," a voice boomed, its roof centered echo signalling Tella's presence.Samanthra took the information silently, taking another step to stand in front of Ronan. He didn't dare to lift his gaze, staring ahead as the world around him gripped his throat. There wasn't a point in lying, T

Chapter 77.2
Ronan steeled his senses, missing a beat would crack the act wide open. He skimmed the various props in Samanthra's office, shelves filled with books and polished artifacts, a desk stuffed with paperwork and tools to help her process it paintings, windows... curtains. He needed a better view. "Have you ever considered that maybe I'm just insane?" Ronan started, paying the headmaster's unconvinced squint a warm smile. "Isn't it more convincing than me being kumbaya with some random Novan?" Before Samanthra could pull a reply, Red cut right into the conversation. "He's not insane." "Oh yeah?" Ronan replied, rising from his chair and keeping himself from smiling as Red took the bait. " And what gives you the right to decide? The guy that ripped me from my home and made an active effort to keep me miserable every second of every day! What gives you the right to even talk about me?!" Samanthra breathed out a sigh. "Ronan, no one is calling you crazy." Ronan forced out a laugh, drifti

Chapter 77.3
The entire journey back to the room had been silence, Truvius had nothing to say. He'd seen his friend, normal when he awoke, take the headmaster's letter opener and drive it into his arm to convince the room he was insane.Ronan knew it was convincing.Truvius was terrified. Now Ronan was on his bed, a new letter from his uncle splayed above his face as he read the words under his breath. His uncle had a paravelt, a temporary ticket to earth. But unlike a broken zodraic battery, he was somehow reluctant to share the harmless artifact in the mail. As soon as he finished the piece he scrunched it up, slamming the pile down onto his nightstand with a heavy sigh.He could see Truvius flinch from the movement, his roommate ripping his attention to the nightstand to make sure nothing else happened. Ronan hadn't heard him flip a page of his notes since they sat down. He was pretending to read them, or struggling to as something else haunted his mind."There was a tracker in my arm. That's w
