Chapter thirty one.Just then, one of Ethan's men burst into the room without knocking. "There's a problem.”Victoria sprang to her feet, alarm etched on her face. "What is it?" she demanded.Ethan's man glanced at him, awaiting permission to continue. Ethan nodded."The hospital has announced that you kidnapped Victoria," the man said, his voice measured.Victoria gasped, incredulous. "This is ridiculous! Why would they make such accusations?" Her eyes darted frantically around the room, searching for a phone. "Where's my phone?" she asked, her voice rising.Ethan's response was calm. "Burnt with the car."Victoria's eyes widened in dismay. She slammed her hand against her forehead. "Fuck!"Ethan chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Stop panicking. This is just a small issue, okay?"But before Victoria could respond, Ethan's man spoke up again. "They're also accusing you of stealing the General of West's black card.”"Oh my, oh my," Victoria muttered, before pausing, her e
Meeting
Chapter thirty two.The next morning, Maria stepped into the dining room, where the entire family, except Caleb, was gathered. She exchanged quiet morning greetings before excusing herself to check on Caleb. She knocked on his door, but when there was no response, she pushed it open.Caleb sat in a chair, his gaze fixed on the window. Maria approached him, kissing his cheek, but he didn't flinch or acknowledge her presence. She cleared her throat. "Why aren't you in the dining room?"Caleb's response was laced with despair. "The hunger I feel is so vast that even food can't fill it."Maria nodded sympathetically. "You don't need to worry about anything."Caleb finally turned to her, his eyes blazing with desperation. "I've lost everything, and you expect me not to worry? Come on, make it make sense. As much as I hate to admit it, Ethan has ruined me.”Guilt gnawed at Maria's conscience, making her feel responsible for Caleb's downfall. But she was determined to make things right.

Chapter thirty three."Sir," his man said, eyes widening, but Ethan just chuckled."What? She wants to see me, right? Then let her see me," Ethan said with a smirk."Location, sir?" his man asked."Bring her to R&B eatery by 5:00 pm," Ethan instructed. His man nodded and stood up to leave. "Thank you, sir. I'll take my leave." Ethan nodded, and his man saluted before exiting. Once alone, Ethan chuckled to himself. He had decided to use this opportunity to teach Maria a lesson she would never forget.Tossing the newspaper aside, Ethan stood up and headed to his room. He pulled out a phone, and after a few rings, a deep voice answered."Boss."Ethan rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I need your help.”Maria sat in her room, scrolling through her laptop, searching for modeling job opportunities. She had married into the Sawyer family not only for their wealth but also to leverage their influence to launch her modeling career. However, with the family's fortunes dwindling, Maria's plans we

Chapter thirty four.Maria finally found her voice. "What do you mean?" she asked. He looked at her with disgust. "I'm not interested in doing anything for you. If it was really important, you would have told me already instead of getting into bed with me first."Maria felt like she was losing her mind. She couldn't let this opportunity slip away. She quickly got out of bed, wrapping the blanket around her body. She stood in front of the door, blocking his way."If I were you, I wouldn't leave," Maria said, trying to sound calm. The man stared at her, confused. "What do you mean?" he asked.Maria smiled slyly. "I knew you might react this way, so I decided to be one step ahead of you,” She lied. The man's hands dropped from the door handle. "What do you mean?" he repeated, looking even more confused.Maria's hands slid around his chest, tracing his muscles. "You're a man of great reputation," she said. "You wouldn't want it tarnished, would you?" The man's eyebrows shot up. "Sp

Chapter thirty five Caleb turned around. "What do you mean?" he asked."The police and guards are outside," the man repeated.Caleb noticed everyone staring at him. "What's going on? I didn't do anything," he said. The others laughed in disbelief, but Caleb ignored them. He was worried about the crowd and press outside.Rushing outside, Caleb followed the crowd, but Maria stayed behind. Her heart was racing, and she felt like running away. She had a bad feeling that the police were there for her.Just then, her father-in-law spoke up. "What are you waiting for? Go take a look.”Maria swallowed hard and nodded, but she didn't budge. Her father-in-law raised an eyebrow. "You're still standing there?" he asked.Maria finally moved, fidgeting with her gown as her heart raced. She stepped outside, trying to hide behind one of the family members.Meanwhile, the press swarmed around Caleb. "Sir, why did your wife kill an innocent man?" one reporter asked. "Sir, are you an accomplice?" an

Chapter thirty six."Boss, the job is done," a voice said over the phone, and Ethan smiled as he ended the call."The show has only just begun, dear Maria," Ethan said, standing up and smoothing his hair with a comb. He whistled a tune.Someone seems happy," Victoria observed from behind him as she walked inside his room.Ethan chuckled, staring at her through the mirror. "Let's just say someone is getting a taste of their own medicine."Victoria nodded, curious but knowing better than to ask more questions. She had never been able to read Ethan, no matter how hard she tried."Going somewhere?" she asked, noticing him put on his jacket.Ethan turned to her, smiling. "Yes, my dear. I'll be back soon," he said, hugging her briefly before heading out.Victoria couldn't help but stare at Ethan as he walked away, a part of her heart breaking. She had already confided in her grandfather, Sir Edward, about her feelings for Ethan, but he had advised her to move on. "Ethan isn't the kind of m

Chapter thirty seven.“Listen, Caleb. I'll give it to you straight. If you want your wife out, you'll need to apologize to Ethan."Caleb's eyes widened in shock. "What?”"I'm only giving you advice, Caleb," the chief of police said. "If you want to see your wife again..."Caleb brushed off the chief's hand on his shoulder. "Oh please, Ethan sent you to say this? Now you work with Ethan? Nobody can be bought, right?" Caleb sneered. The chief of police crossed his hands behind his back. "I only care about you, young Master Swayer."Caleb snorted. "No, you don't care. All you care about is the money. How much does he have? You think I don't have enough?"“Enough to buy your entire family, Caleb.”Ethan appeared, a sly smile on his face. Caleb's face twisted in rage. "Bastard!" he spat, swinging a fist at Ethan, who dodged it swiftly.Ethan grabbed Caleb's hands, holding them in a tight grip. "You're lucky I'm in a good mood," Ethan said, before releasing Caleb's hands abruptly.Cal

She burst in, frantically asking, "Where's my sister?"Caleb turned around, and as soon as Rose saw him, she approached him. "What's going on? I saw the news... Maria can't even harm a fly. Also…"Before Rose could finish, Caleb interrupted her. "Can you take a deep breath?"Rose nodded, sniffing and blinking back tears. Caleb gently guided her to a bench, where she sat down.Taking a deep breath, Caleb explained the situation to Rose. Her eyes widened in shock when he said, "Our only option is to beg Ethan.""Beg Ethan," Rose repeated, her voice laced with concern. "I know you're hurt that Maria chose me over you, but you need to move on, bro!" he barked.Ethan's expression remained unreadable, his hands still crossed behind his back. "Are you done? You can do whatever you want, but Maria is mine."Ethan barked again, "Get out!"Rose quickly intervened, standing between the two men and joining her hands together. "Please, don't be angry.”"Why should I be angry?" Ethan said with a smirk. "I have better things to do than waste my time with losers like you two."Rose felt a sting from his words, but she reminded herself to stay calm for her sister's sake. She turned to Caleb, joining her hands together in a pleading gesture. "Can we please just apologize and leave?" she begged.Caleb stared at her, then nodded. "Okay."Rose whispered

Chapter forty.Maria approached Caleb, who was packing his clothes into a box, ignoring her. She stood there, her hands clasped together, and cleared her throat to get his attention."What's the next plan?" she asked, trying to break the silence.Caleb scoffed, turning to face her. "Your house," he said, but Maria immediately shook her head."No, we can't go to my house," she said, but Caleb chuckled. "Why not?"Maria didn't answer. Deep down, she felt that going back to her house would be a humiliation. Her neighbors would gossip and laugh at her, but she couldn't admit this to Caleb."Answer me, why can't we go there?" Caleb barked, making Maria flinch. She composed herself quickly."Nothing," she said hesitantly. "I just feel we... uh... shouldn't go there."Caleb nodded. "Fine, we won't go there. You'd better come up with a better plan for us."Maria remained silent, her hands rubbing against each other nervously."Go on, speak up," Caleb said impatiently. "I'm waiting for you."
