Desperate Measures
Stay where you are, Leah. I will find them.” Leah nodded, clutching the phone to her chest as she tried to steady her breathing. She could not lose them. Not her babies. She started pacing back and forth outside the school, her mind racing with a thousand possibilities. Who could have taken them? Why?As she turned to head back towards the entrance, she froze. Standing a few feet away were two men she recognized all too well, Jae and Maxwell, Blake’s men. Her heart raced as they approached, smirking. “Well, well, look who it is,” Jae sneered, his eyes gleaming with rage. “Looking for your kids, Leah?”Leah’s blood ran cold. “Where are they?” she demanded, her voice shaking with fear and anger. “What have you done with them?” Maxwell laughed, crossing his arms over his chest. “They are safe, for now. But their safety depends on you.” Leah felt her knees go weak. “Please, just tell me where they are. I will do whatever you want.” Jae’s smile wide

In the lion's den
Inside Skyridge Manor, Blake leaned back on his luxurious sofa, a cruel smile playing on his lips as he watched Leah kneel and beg before him. Her eyes were wide with fear, running from Blake to the corner where her two children huddled together, their small bodies bruised and battered. “Please, Blake,” she whispered, her voice shaking. “Just let them go. I will do whatever you want, but please, do not hurt them.” Blake’s smile widened, and he stood, towering over her. “That is the spirit, Leah. Now you are making sense, you know, I have always admired your determination. But you are still not quite convincing enough.” He nodded to his surbodinate and Jae stepped forward, his expression cold and detached. Without a word, he grabbed Leah’s son, who whimpered in fear, his small body trembling as Jae dragged him closer to Blake. Leah’s heart seized in her chest, her legs giving out as she fell on her stomach, lying down flat. “No, please!” Leah cried, reachin

The Danger Within
Blake’s lips tucked into a smile as he looked over at the children by the corner. He placed his hand behind him leaving Kadmiel a little confused but still on guard. He paced around the room, his smile immediately turned into a sinister smirk on his face. His confidence radiated as he glanced at Kadmiel, who stood motionless but alert, his piercing eyes fixed directly on the man who dared to threaten his family. "You have been a failure all your life, Kadmiel," Blake scoffed, crossing his arms. "Leah honestly does not care about you. It doesn't seem so, cause if she did, she would have forgiven you by now. But she hasn’t, has she? She called you after she could not find the kids, yes, but it does not mean she has forgiven you, you know?" Kadmiel’s expression did not shake, but his mind raced. How did Blake know about his complicated history with Leah? The venom in Blake's words struck him deep, but Kadmiel knew better than to let his emotions surface. Silence was his armor, his u

Shadow's closing in
Immediately Kadmiel had walked away and got into the car, he called Leah to ask about their whereabouts and she said she was close to their home. He then said a few other words of assurance to her, before ending the call. Leah sighed softly as she ended her call with Kadmiel. The warmth of his voice lingered in her thoughts as she glanced back at her children, who were fast asleep in their car seats. The evening was quiet, the hum of the car’s engine soothing. The driver, a trusted part of Kadmiel’s squad, it seemed as thought they had known each other for years, so she allowed herself to relax for a moment. Her mind wandered to their earlier conversation. Kadmiel’s concern for their safety had been evident, and though she appreciated his care and love, she could not help but feel overwhelmed by the danger that seemed to follow him everywhere.Suddenly, the car took a sharp turn down an unfamiliar road. Leah frowned, anxiety creeping in as she leaned forward."Where are we going? T

Vanished without a Trace
kadmiel’s mind was uneasy as he paced the room, his jaw clenched so tightly it began to ache. He could not afford useless mistakes such as this, not now. Blake was suddenly out there, lurking in the shadows like a venomous snake waiting for the right time to strike. Kelita tried to calm him down but her words got into deaf eats as he could not process anything around him. He pulled out his phone and dialed Phoenix again. The other party at the end of the line picked up and he said without wasting time. “Meet me at my place. Now."There was no need for explanations. Phoenix would understand the urgency.Minutes later, she arrived, stepping into his living room confidently. She took a moment to scan his face. "Blake escaped," Kadmiel said with a sarcastic smile, his voice dangerously low.Phoenix’s lips pressed into a thin line. "We underestimated him sir."Kadmiel slammed his fist against the center table, shaking the glass. “No. I underestimated him. I should have killed him when I

Shadows in the dark
Very early in the morning the next day, Leah's family got a visit from an “old” friend. The morning light had barely come out. The silence of that time of the morning was almost suffocating. Leah's mother, Miranda sat at the kitchen table, her fingers wrapped around a cold cup of tea and a muffler was hung on her shoulder, in as much as she was strong headed, she still loved her family so much. She had not slept, neither had she been at ease throughout the period since she heard the news from Kadmiel. How could she rest? Her daughter and grandchildren were missing, and every second that passed felt like another step toward more disaster. She blamed their financial status for all the terrible things that have happened to them. A knock at the front door brought her out of her trance. It was firm, confident, it did not seem like someone who was here for just pleasantries. Miranda was scared a bit before heading to the living room. Miranda hesitated for a moment before unlocking the d

A new Ally
A phone call which Kadmiel had not expected came late into the night, piercing through the silence of his home like a blade. Kadmiel sat on one of the couches in his dark room, he had turned off the lights to match his mood at that instance, a glass of whiskey stood untouched on the centre table which sat before him.He had not gotten any rest mentally as his mind had been racing constantly for hours, thoughts swirling with frustration and exhaustion. He began having migraines.Every lead had gone cold. Every trace of Leah and his children had vanished. Tracing Blake's whereabouts also proved futile. He had sent his best men out, scanned through all his networks, pulled every string he could in the past two days, yet nothing to show for it. When his phone vibrated, he grabbed it up without any hesitation."What is it? I do not have any time for back and for the right now.” His voice was sharp, cold and impatient.Leah’s mother, her voice raw with desperation, spoke quickly."I am s

The Trap is set
The next morning:The early morning breeze appeared to be more chilly than usual for madam Mercer as she left her house. She knew what she was about to be up to and she grabbed the bull by it horns as she navigated the road effortlessly, the time of morning that they were not very many cars.Sloane arrived at one of Kadmiel’s houses, of course he would not show a stranger his main house or where he stays often. Sloane had always admired his ability to remain unpredictable. Before he had even gone to the military, he is still the same person. No one, not even his closest allies, besides Phoenix ever knew exactly where he would be. That was why the Four Great Families had failed to eliminate him when they wanted to. But now, he had given her an invitation to exactly where he was. She knew he would not be alone and she was prepared for any surprises. She parked her vehicle at the gate and decided to walk into the compound. Sloane walked through the gates, her sharp eyes scanning the

Phantom Pursuit
Kadmiel removed the mask of the assassin, he could not tell who it was. He contemplated for a while on what to do. Shortly after he lifted the limp body to a corner in the alley and dropped him carefully, without looking back, he went away hastily. Kadmiel strolled through the silent streets, his hands deep in his pockets as he kept on thinking. The assassin had barely muttered his last breath before choosing to die, leaving behind more questions than answers. Who could have sent him? And why now? His instincts told him that he had to expect a lot more, he had no idea how much enemies he had made. He thought of telling someone as he exhaled sharply, then he decided not to burden Phoenix or anyone else with his concerns just yet. Until he had gotten solid leads, he needed to keep his suspicions with him. As he walked into his home, he immediately called Phoenix."How has it been with Sloane?""She has proved to be very useful sir," Phoenix replied. "Sharp, resourceful too. She has

A ghost from the past
“Did you drive here?”“Nah, I was actually in the trunk of your car the whole time. And I am not being sarcastic.’Kadmiel did not even want to ask anymore questions as he hopped into the car and she did too. Kadmiel and Sloane returned to one of his safehouses, where Phoenix was already waiting. She raised an eyebrow when she saw Sloane. "You really did save his ass, huh?"Sloane shrugged "It just seemed like the right thing to do."Phoenix turned to Kadmiel. "What happened?"Kadmiel sat down, rubbing his forehead lightly. "I got a call, earlier today, telling me to come see Leah and my kids, little did I know that it was all a setup," he admitted. "The four great families are getting smarter, they knew I was desperate and decided to drag me, this trap was crazy and it almost worked. Phoenix crossed her arms. "And Leah? The kids?"Kadmiel shook his head. "Nowhere to be found."A heavy silence settled in the room. Then, Sloane spoke up."I have a theory," she said, leaning forward.
