21. I- Interrogated the CEO
"I'm afraid you can't go in there Mr. Detective, he did not approve the... "Don't touch me, man." Manchester retorted with a loud voice as they stood at the entrance to the Interrogation room, his eyes burning with fury. The arresting officer's supervisor had refused to approve his request to interrogate the suspect, leading to an argument with the clerk that brought them to this point. Manchester refused to give in to their politics, especially since he knew why they continued to not approve of him, even the detective he had worked with had intentionally cut out some of his questions during the Interrogation, to which Manchester chose not to react. But now, he was more than ready to burn the station down, not just because of his task but his passion for his field. Sophia Patel's life could be in danger, on the verge of death and the so-called team is wasting more time playing games. "Don't touch me!" He yelled again, drawing the attention of some officers and even his as
22. I- increased my intelligence by ten percent
"Why are we back to this place sir?" Sophia inquired as the car parked in front of the gate to the Laboratory just as Manchester had instructed the driver. He did this after going back to the station to collect some valid documents and pictures. He gave them to Sophia to hold them as they got into the car and went on a long journey back to the Laboratory where Dr. Sophia Patel had gone missing. "You'll see." He replied and stepped out of the car. Just like the first time, the security officer came out to meet them, and he recognized Manchester on the spot and even greeted him with a handshake. He held the gate open for them to come in, but Manchester politely declined. "Not now," he said, "My investigation is outside the gate, not inside." The gateman and Sophia glanced at each other briskly, as neither of them understood what Manchester was trying to figure out. "Can I have the pictures?" He requested and Sophia went back to the car, took out the pictures from where s
23. I- Think I know where she is
"Why did you have to lie?" Manchester asked as they walked through the hallway towards Sophia Patel's office. The security officer just smiled and replied, "Subconsciously, I don't know why. We are here, by the way." He took out a bunch of keys from his pocket unlocked the door using one of them, and ushered Manchester in. "Thanks." Manchester closed the door after walking in, and his gaze fell upon Sophia Patel's desk, where she had left the car keys and her phone. "Where is the phone?" He wondered, but couldn't care less, he could only assume that one of the detectives had taken it, but why then did he leave the car keys behind? Manchester put on the gloves, took out the glass piece from the transparent leather seal and dropped it on the table. He began opening some drawers one after the other looking for information regarding her project. He found it strange that there wasn't any material indicating that Sophia was working on anything at all, even on the security footage, s
24. I- am here for you Nelson
Manchester did not realise this until he had gone into the hospital and was signing in at the reception when one of them walked in through the entrance. Manchester was filling in the form and didn't lift his head, but he was forced to do so when a familiar voice spoke from behind. "Good day." She said, her soft voice caressing Manchester's ears like a gentle breeze. "I'd like to visit..." Mel's words were cut off when her eyes met Manchester. First with an expression of shock, then immediately replaced with a warm smile. "Mr. Manchester!" She said, "I'm so glad we met you here, it's such a coincidence." She added and extended her hand for a handshake. Manchester was surprised to see her alone, he looked toward the door to see if her fiancé' was coming behind her the whole time. "Yes, it's a coincidence." He replied with a cold voice and shook hands with her. "Do I still have to sign in?" Mel turned to the clerk and asked, "This is the man I came to see, his son is here and I
25. I- can't tell my mom
"Home sweet home!" exclaimed Manchester as he finally walked into the house, holding Nelson on one hand and a few groceries on the other. He had intentionally left those things that Mel bought at the hospital and even after the doctor had called to tell him that he left something, Manchester had no intentions of going back and picking them up. Since Nelson was still asleep in his arm, Manchester carefully dropped the groceries first and placed him down in the crib to continue sleeping, while he tried to sort out the medicines given to him by the doctors. To help him remember the right time and dosage for each medicine, Manchester wrote a schedule and placed it on the door of his wardrobe. For a backup plan, he set up multiple reminder alarms on his phone. "At least I won't forget to give Nelson his medicines on time." He said with a long sigh, before proceeding to the kitchen to whip up something quickly for dinner. And what food is faster, and less stressful like a pack of n
26. I- took my son to work
The next day, Manchester set out to the Everglow company, this time he wasn't alone. Because he hadn't made any plans the previous night because his mother was around, Manchester had no choice but to work with Nelson today. The tiny human played with his fingers, while strapped in his baby carrier, oblivious to the situation he was about to walk into.Manchester was alone as the permit from the CEO of Everglow was granted to just him for investigative purposes. This permit not only allowed him to visit the company at will without restriction but also gave him nearly equal rights as the CEO himself. This includes the right to question the workers and receive a response regardless of how sensitive the topic was, and the right to hire and fire an employee. However, he wasn't permitted to sign documents or approve any deals, as the permit only lasted 24 hours from the time it was issued. No words could describe the shock on the faces of the workers when a random stranger walked into the
27. I- have found who I'm looking for
After over an hour of investigation, and another thirty minutes of sorting out a crying baby Manchester was able to put his findings together. This time, he was back in the assistant's office, alone. He had to leave Nelson with a worker whom he had picked interest in amongst the others. "From the information I got from you," Manchester began, both hands on the table as he flipped one paper under the other. "Mr Chris had been genuinely busy throughout the week, even until Sophia Patel's disappearance and afterwards. "Someone's stupidity was going to cause the company a major loss and he spent the week fixing that. I sure hope the employee was fired haha." Edward laughed with him, at least since the investigation, no one had smiled until now. "It's easy to assume that your CEO had no hand in Sophia Patel's disappearance, but we can't be so sure, because as a big man, he can hire people to work that out for him... "So he's not innocent?" Asked Edward, he was impatiently waiting f
28. I- am not here to fight you
Manchester left the head office immediately and headed for the police station, all he had to do was get words from Abrahan and he would close this case. He just hoped that Abraham wouldn't waste his time with meaningless blabbing and would immediately reveal where Sophia Patel was. "We brought in a suspect," His assistant Sophia said as soon as Manchester walked into the police station. Quite strange that she is the first to spot him whenever he is around. "Was that on your command?" She asked. "Abraham Jean-Clyde?" "Yes." " Then yes, that was on my command. Where is he?" "In the Interrogation room," she replied as they both began walking into the station. She offered to take Nelson away from him, but the little human refused to be taken away from his father's arm. "Just leave him," said Manchester, "He has thrown enough tantrums for today. Back to the case, I need to work on the CEO's release, that man had no hand in any of this." "You found her?" "Not yet, but Abraham sho
29. I- knew you were going to succeed
After his Interrogation session with Abraham Jean-Clyde which lasted nearly an hour because he had other stories to tell, Manchester compiled all of his findings with the help of Sophia. He extracted the recorded conversation between Abraham and himself and risky took the thirty-minute drive to the station where the CEO of Everglow was still detained. Upon getting there, Manchester walked into the station with a satisfactory grin, not just because the case was close to ending but because he had uncovered the truth in half the time he was given by the Chief. Yes, the system assisted him in a few areas, but he still did most of the work which he was proud of.Before entering the office, Manchester had yet another challenge with his son. Nelson still wasn't fond of Sophia and constantly wanted to return to his father's arm, the little human refused to understand that his father wouldn't always have his time here. Manchester made sure that he was fed, his diapers changed and that he had
30. I- won't shed a tear
12:30 a.m Nelson was asleep in this crib. It has taken Manchester nearly three hours to put the child to sleep because whenever he places Nelson down in his crib after he seems to have dozed off, the little human wakes up Immediately and starts crying again. This was a repeated cycle almost all night, such that Manchester could barely get a good night's rest himself and it was frustrating. Somehow, he loves his son, but he hates being a dad, or perhaps a single dad. With Nelson finally asleep, he walked out of the bedroom and gently closed the door behind him with a sigh of relief, but after that, a stream of tears ran down his cheek which he immediately wiped off before walking up to the living room couch and making himself comfortable. Once again, the tears returned, clouding his eyes so much that he could barely see the screen of his phone. "What's the meaning of this!" He wanted to exclaim but held back. He used to hem off his pyjamas to wipe the tears off and continued as
