Take part in Kaze's glorious payback in "Guardian-In-Law"!
Kaze became the happiest man after his marriage to Darcy Quint, his childhood crush. Nevertheless, this happiness was short-lived. They've been married for three years but they had never made love throughout all those years due to various events that brought them apart.
Case in point: The evening after the wedding, Kaze disappeared without a trace. Darcy was deeply disturbed but she figured there may have been a very severe reason behind that disappearance and refused to get divorced, a situation that put her at odds with her father, Master Quint, who stripped her of her privileges. Meanwhile, the Quint family became the laughingstock of the town.
As it turned out, his family was responsible for Kaze's disappearance since they sent him to war against his will. His parents claimed that his brother's life was too precious and that he, being just a useless boy, needed to go to the battlefield in his stead. Nevertheless, he proved his valor in combat and came back as this era's God of War, earning the praise of his peers, though his return was not as smooth as he desired.
His brother, who always held a grudge against him, drugged him with a powerful substance that turned him into a mentally disabled person. He then got dropped at the foot of Darcy's house's door. Darcy, dumbfounded by his deplorable state, quickly took him in. Three months later, she managed to heal him after sleeping with him, though many people thought that his condition was irreversible. With time, he managed to prove everyone wrong and take revenge on those who did him wrong.
Kaze is the eldest son of the Lee family's empire, the most prominent family in the South River State. However, despite being the firstborn, he was considered a pariah, a worthless asset who didn't deserve to live. Nevertheless, he demonstrated his worth several times, especially in battle.
Apart from being a brave and fearless warrior to the point of earning the title "God of War" - he's also a faithful husband and loves Darcy with all his heart and mind.
Darcy Quint is from a very important family in Lilyrose City, but she never concerned herself with etiquette, social norms, or riches. She was willing to wait for Kaze even if that meant being relinquished of her inheritance or luxuries. Rather, she's very devoted to her husband even at the expense of her own dignity, trusting in him against all odds.
Kaze manifested his desire to meet Pietro's boss, who's none other than Giovani Beneli, a famous gangster in Lilyrose City with a vast network and influence. Upon hearing this, everyone was scandalized, including Kaze's mother, Agnes, who told him she was tired of his retarded behavior and dismissed him. Supposedly, Giovani wanted to host a feast in order to apologize for Pietro's behavior towards Darcy.
Even Darcy, upon seeing his husband's apparent naivete, gets frustrated with him. But, despite all the fears that were voiced prior to the gathering, it went quite smoothly, and Kaze and Beneli shared a few rounds.
In that meeting, Kaze is gifted with a VIP card from the president of the Lilyrose Bank. All the while, Hector and Agnes learn that, apparently, Kaze was linked with the distinguished guest that Beneli was referring to all along and who was to be greeted at Emperor Hall.
Darcy just found out that Kaze had spent five billion in the purchase of Sky Ocean Corporation as a gift for her. This news left everyone in the trade center in shock, including Alfonso, who was trying to keep his cool the whole time. Everyone took him for a retard, so how could he come up with such a gross amount of money?
He also humiliated Kiev by adding an extra 10 million to the price tag he placed for Genting Limited
"Guardian-In-Law" stresses the importance of being loyal and not rushing to conclusions when faced with an initially distressing turn of events, as was the case with Darcy who, upon realizing that his husband disappeared, trusted that there was an important reason behind his actions.
Likewise, the novel teaches us not to disregard people, especially members of our own family, on superfluous or banal grounds, for they may turn out to be our biggest "saviors" later on. This happened specifically with Kaze's family, who always favored his younger brother without knowing he'd be the one saving the Lees and ultimately claiming the title "God of War."
Lastly, we're taught that family is not determined primarily by bloodlines but by the affinity we have with those we love. For example, both Kaze and Darcy are ostracized by their blood family members, having to seek solace in each other and establish their own bond, both legally and affectionately.
We know nothing of "Five Generals" apart from his sole work, "Guardian-In-Law," nor have we anything regarding his personal details (name, occupation, origin, etc.) Regardless, judging from a cursory reading of the novel under review, we can ascertain that this author has a knack for crafting enticing love stories mixed with political intrigue and family feuds.
The entire narrative is told from the point of view of an unknown narrator who doesn't appear to take part in any of the events but who's aware of all things past, present, and future, conveying the plot as having taken place in the past.
"Five Generals" utilizes a very pragmatic language that can be easily understood by anyone with moderate knowledge of English, but, at the same time, they don't skimp on details or exhaustive descriptions, especially during "spicy" scenes.
"Guardian-In-Law," by Five Generals, successfully merges elements of timeless, present-day romance with bits of edgy light fantasy and mythology. All of this is seasoned with superb writing, compelling characters (such as Darcy) that you can easily relate with, sexy scenes, frenetic action sequences, and breathtaking twists guaranteed to blow your mind and make you reconsider your initial assumptions without offending your intellect.
On all accounts, "Guardian-In-Law" offers an exquisite reading experience that you might definitely enjoy!
