Embark on Zaia and Sebastian's rocky love boat in "I Am The Luna"!
The plot in "I Am The Luna" begins with Zaia receiving some exciting news: She is pregnant! She can hardly conceal her happiness as her chauffeur brings her home to acquaint her fated mate, Alpha Sebastian, with the glad tidings. Alas, she's met with his cold shoulder. At first glance, she thought he might have been just exhausted, but, before she even had the chance to share the news about her pregnancy, he handed her a divorce agreement draft!
Sebastian stated quite emphatically that he entered the marriage arrangement out of obedience to his father's and the Moon Goddess' will, but he didn't see the point in continuing to honor that commitment since he didn't believe in fated mates. To make matters worse, he disclosed that he wanted to get back with Annalise, his ex-girlfriend and Zaia's half-sister.
After this major letdown, Zaia leaves the packhouse and returns to her mother's house, who advises her to not let Sebastian know about the pregnancy, lest he feels tempted to return to her on account of the babies only to dump her later.
In the meantime, Annelise starts feeling way too entitled around the packhouse, causing a ruckus within the pack. Everyone wants to see her expelled, all of this even before Sebastian announces their relationship out in the open. Not long after, he'd begin to feel remorse for having rejected Zaia. Will he learn about Zaia's secret? Also, is Zaia willing to forgive him?
Zaia Toussaint is the daughter of the reputed Alpha Hugh Toussaint, whose pack is almost as sizable as the Dark Hollow Falls pack that Alpha Sebastian leads. She used to be the most coveted girl everywhere she went, whether it be her College or University. Apart from being insanely gorgeous, she's also outstandingly bright.
As such, she's not used to rejection, which makes Sebastian's dismissal even more painful for her, but she ultimately takes her loss with resilience and determination, especially for the sake of her unborn children.
Alpha Sebastian King is the handsome Alpha of one of the most influential packs around, and he's wholly aware of his virtues and power. However, behind his confident appeal hides a man struggling with insecurities and doubts.
He challenges the deterministic worldview ingrained within his own species, a skepticism that drives him to opt out of his relationship with his fated mate. However, ever since he decided to go his way, he wasn't able to attain peace of mind, lending credence to the famous fated mate bond.
Annalise, the main villain in this story, is Zara's half-sister and Sebastian's girlfriend from his youth. She was booted from the pack when Sebastian decided to heed his father and the Moon Goddess by marrying Zaia, though she's hardly the meek lamb she portrays herself as.
She might not be as attractive as Zaia, but she certainly shows a captivating personality, although everything changes once she feels confident enough to show her true despotic and haughty self.
Jai, Sebastian's beta, admonishes him with a friendly tone, complaining that he should not have rejected Zaia if he wasn't willing to deal with the consequences. Sebastian admits that he did so thinking that she would fight back, and, even though Jai wasn't buying it, Sebastian was factually correct, at least in hindsight.
He then reveals that he had fallen in love with her, but Annalise convinced him that Zaia had orchestrated her kidnapping, leading him to develop an aversion towards her. Right after, Dr. Scott barges in with a file in her hand but is very hesitant to hand it over. After Jai's insistence, Sebastian opens the file and finds out that Zaia is pregnant with twins!
Zaia is weakened from her high-risk pregnancy, but she feels compelled to leave the pack either way. Fortunately, her mom managed to get fake IDs so that they could be accepted into another pack. This pack is the Whispering Mountain Pack, which rivals Sebastian's. She also learns that Sebastian is trying to locate her, but, regardless, she acknowledges there's no other choice.
Having been admitted into her new pack, she takes the name Zaia Walton and, while in the beginning she has problems blending in with the locals, she's eventually treated as one of their own and is employed at a small bridal boutique that, coincidentally, provides decoration to the Pack Hall every year.
The theme in "I Am The Luna" is a mishmash between various concepts, though the central ones are betrayal and forgiveness. By breaking up with Zaia, Sebastian betrays not only his fated mate, but also his own family, kin, and Goddess. That said, he still has a chance to redeem himself, though he might have to get through Zaia's wounded pride first, and this is where the forgiveness part kicks in.
Another major theme is the conflict between fate and free will, exemplified in Sebastian's internal struggle to abide by his own choice in lieu of adhering to what has been dictated by the Moon Goddess (the Werewolf realm's deity in charge of picking each wolf's destined mate).
