With a hundred heels on the run and a dozen people falling on to the ground, the only source of light, the bonfire, was put out by the rushing wind that accompanied the waves which were a few feet away from the shore.
The screams worsened in the face of the darkness with people colliding with each other and noises that sounded like utter pains from stampede filled every angle of the place.
"Vvvvzzzooommmshhhhh" The sound alongside discordant tides crashed multiple times with the weight of people's voices sounding muffled as they drowned in its weight and impact.
"Mencia? Don't let go. Let's keep going" Justin said as he tried his every best to stay coordinated in his speech making process.
Mencia couldn't speak. She was only doing one thing, breathing, and she wasn't doing it well enough as Justin kept dragging her away from the chaos behind them to some place ahead that they could not see.
"Gabriel! Gabriel" A girl screamed with a heavily teary voice from somewhere close to the fleeing Justin and Mencia.
This pandemonium and utter distress flowed within the veins of everyone and the atmosphere was full of gasps and loud pants that resonated from fast-beating hearts.
"Gasp" With a wildly flowing rush of sweat and a heart beat that sounded like a loose drum, Menica rose up quickly from the cave where her back was rested on during her sleep.
This nightmare of the night at Ibiza had been tormenting her repeatedly as she couldn't escape it no matter how short or long she slept for.
Mencia looked towards her right side with her head lowered to the ground as she looked pitifully at the sleeping Justin who held her hand in his. He had been her guardian and only friend ever since they got here. She pitied him for always having to be strong for her, in her low moments where she cried uncontrollably and this was almost every night and Justin did not complain.
This cave was fairly-lit with woods serving as fire-torches hung on the walls. They had been here for a few days or maybe a lot more than that. it was hard to know what time it was when the sun and moon were not hanging in the sky.
Mencia turned her face towards her stomach which grumbled repeatedly. She had not eaten in a while, she could not. Her appetite and irritation upon the sight of withering herbs and perishing fruits was a major cause of that.
"Mencia?" Justin called out from his sleep as he held on to her hand tightly now. He woke up slowly from whatever dream he'd had and looked towards her hand that he tightly held on to. She was holding him right back. He looked up towards her face and smiled a little widely as he sniffled.
"Guys, we have to get going. Take as much fire with you as you can" A muscular guy in his early twenty said to the other males in the cave, about 11 of them.
Justin knew he had to go on this expedition with them, so he got up slowly, fixing his eyes on Mencia.
"Please, come back" Mencia said in a very emotional tone as a tear found its way out of her left eye. She didn't mean to cry, not this time.
"I will" Justin said wearing a smile of a two year old kid while rubbing his fingers against her wrist.
404 days earlier
"Is this where we go our separate ways?" Justin asked with a sense of loss and hurt in his tone as he looked towards Mencia who was being recorded live by a floating Hologram device that transmitted this scene live to millions of streamers on the internet.
They had been in this 'House of Anchors' reality show for 90 days alongside 20 other people and today was the last day they all had together. Justin, over the course of their stay had been smitten by Mencia's beauty and they had barely exchanged more than ten sentences. She barely looked towards him or anyone in this room.
"Yeah, I guess. You will return to the U.S and I'll stay in Spain. That's how this was supposed to end, right?" Mencia replied without much care or bit of passion in her voice and this irked Justin whose feelings were being hurt and this became evident on his face as his countenance became sullen.
Mencia did not want this. For the first time in a long time, someone saw her, and not just for the beauty half the world recognized about her. He looked at her with the eyes of her dead younger brother and she wanted to hug him, kiss him maybe, but the public eye and the media's loose lips left her mute, quiet and in great torture within.
"Justi…" Mencia called out quietly, too quietly for her or anyone else close could have heard while Justin walked away from the podium towards the backstage where he was to exit the building from.
It was 3:09PM in the city of Petrograd, Russia and Anna was at the World War III Memorial Park sitting next to her squatting dog by one of the ultra-modern benches spread across the park. She inhaled the air and it still was not clear and as clean as she remembered.Anna's husband was a war veteran who passed away about 7 years ago. She had not felt this much peace in a while. She smiled slowly and her wrinkled eyes smiled from the right edges, too. She had every reason to be happy in this moment. Her husband was a brave soldier who gave his all into serving his country and seeing a monumental Hologram Edifice right before her just made his efforts make sense to her.The war might have been pointless as she'd always believed, but her husband was not a coward and this honourable place was worthy of the efforts he invested."Can you hear me, Vladimir?" Anna said with a warm smile clothing her much wrinkled face as she caressed the hair of her dog's head softly. Anna stared into blank
Petrograd was one of the many cities attacked by the nuclear bombs which fired themselves into the air and decimated the population of cities like Pyongyang, Beijing, Tokyo, Shanghai, Paris, New Delhi, Washington D.C, Georgia, New York, Moscow and Jerusalem recording astronomical casualties, many of which could not be recorded or confirmed. With towers torn into halves and skyscrapers crashing down and smaller buildings caving into the earth, there was utter chaos and destruction around the world. The trees that prospered along the Park's road and side, big and small began to wither and fold in slowly. What was this? Here, at Petrograd, six minutes into the crashing of the nuclear weapons that had showered the city in ruins and destruction, darkness began to form from within the sky. No, it was not within the sky. It was within the eye socket of everyone. One moment ago, there was chaos and enough daylight to see the terror that had just befallen this city and now, it was like there
"Taaa" The cups sounded as they bounced slightly right off the floor. The countdown was down to 3 minutes and 13 seconds and as Peter turned his back to look at his daughter, Evgenii and son, Vova who just entered the room with faces of worry and fear of the unknown they weren't ready to accept, he looked upon their comely faces and smiled. His wife would have been proud of the amazing children he's raised but she had been dead ever since their birth. His children meant the whole world to him besides his work obsession. They ran towards their trembling dad who was about to crash hard on the ground with his face sweating profusely and his breath becoming unstable. He fell right into the arms of his twin children, gazed at their lovely velvet eyes yet again. Evgenii could not hold back her tears as she knew the hour of his death was upon them. Vova held on to his father's arm tightly as he held back the tears from falling from his eyes. All this time, Nicholay had already fallen to th
Margot was British, but she didn't stay long at home before she went out on her adventure of touring the world. However, for Margot, an adventure was a whole lot more than beautiful cities and places, it was also beautiful men, women sometimes and touring the paradise each of their bodies had to offer. Margot had cut off ties with her parents who were aged and she was not remorseful about that in the least. She was adopted after all. Besides her pretty face and charming accent, her 'Jezebelic' body movements were enough to sweep any man of sound mind off his feet. She knew her power and it wasn't long before it became her biggest asset.Margot was living the wild girl's dream and this continued for years until Travis walked into her life. Travis was another fucked up kid who left his life to find something deeper or different in Norway, so their bonding wasn't too hard to figure out.Their biggest bond was AVID+(a pill that contained hallucinogens, ecstasy and morphine) and this was
"Half the world is foolish. The other half is too high to know the difference" Travis said as he smiled flirtatiously. He was a charmer with a lethal smile and a packet of words that sounded like poetry."You ever wonder if life was better in the past than now?" Margot asked in a rather philosophical tone."I can't say. Cosmically, we all meet one end" Travis continued as he popped out a purple pill into his soft comely white palms."And what's that?" Margot asked curiously."We all fucking die. Some lived, some stayed, some held life right at the balls. That last one's my cosmic climax" Travis said in a lower pitched voice now with an almost high face.Margot didn't need a prophet or love algorithm to tell her that this was her 'own person'.Margot sniffled again as she remembered these Memories vividly. AVID+ was not a regular drug. It recreated memories as they happened and this was a blessing and curse for the grieving Margot. She headed to the desk that looked more like a shit sh
It was a beautiful sunset scene as Brad walked into the Devitton Bar section of the club where he had one shot of his favourite drink- MacAnthony's Gin and Tonic. He sighed right after and dropped the cup silently as he got up to head to the top of the building; the night club's dancefloor.Brad was a real life 20 year old loser who couldn't leave the safety of his own house. He owed all the fun and sexual action in his life to this virtual reality that had become his reality.Brad owned the latest of all gadgets. How else could he have been satisfied with being Google's VR Pixel's Innovative Director?Brad had too many flaws, but his biggest of all was his indifference towards anything and everything that was outside of what he knew to be reality."Buzz!Buzz!!" Brad's Hologram device that was placed at the right end of his table buzzed repeatedly."What now?" Brad said with disgust and slight vexation as he paused his virtual reality game or life as it had come to be for him and str
"The planet is a ball after all, and a rolling one at that. What were we expecting anyway? It's all in motion already." A flier containing these words flew right into the face of Moritz, a German tourist in Japan.Moritz removed it from this face as the wind's pressure was making it slightly difficult.Japan was never on Moritz's travel destinations, but the world was a little beyond normal already. It was 2053 and the World War III had recently ended.About 7 months ago, Moritz was Cruising in the Ocean in a country that was once known as Nigeria. He heard so much about regaining clarity from spending time at this part of the world.Moritz was a 49 year old journalist and he used to be one of the world's best but he wasn't that person anymore, not after he'd lost his daughter and wife to the war while we went off to fight under forceful recruitment circumstances back home in Germany. This was one of those few wars that was in the end, foolish and damning to man's existence as there w
It was June 2022 and 22 year old twins, Michaela and Michael were back in Locatelli, a scantily-populated area in Sweden. They had recently concluded their Master's at MIT and were back, on to the project that had come to define their lives. Their late dad's hedge fund money had long been the basis of their fund-demanding research and experiments. Michaela was the more brilliant of the twins but she was the more skeptical one who wasn't keen on heavy risks unlike her brother who had coronary artery disease and had been diagnosed as terminal about 9 months back. "I think we're done. I sincerely have a good feeling about this one, Michael." Michaela said to the sleeping Michael who had passed out from overnight stress on the couch few feet away from the lab entrance. This was no ordinary lab, and the only comparison that came close in terms of facilities and multimillion dollar physics equipment in this place was Tony's Stark Labs. Despite the weakness in his body, Michael dragged
