The police arrived a few hours later and they took hold of their captive whom Adrian had already tied to a post with the help of Linda. They had to follow the police down to the police station to put down some statements.

They couldn't leave Lady Barbara alone in the house in that state so they waited for Ada to arrive. She did after about twenty minutes of waiting and she thanked Adrian multiple times which the latter found repulsive.

They moved down to the police station to write some statements and hand over the culprit officially to the police department. After a while Linda and Adrian left the station and flagged down a cab. Parked right in front of them was Blinks smiling at them both.

“This car is creepy,” Linda whispered to Adrian.

Adrian giggled at her suspicious glare and just gestured for her to get in, she did but sat closely to him as if he could do anything if the person was really planning to hurt them. Blinks drove away and he began the topic purposely in the car s

The field was green filled with a sense of serenity and peace. Adrian stood in the middle of the field, and gazed as far as his eyes could see. The only thing that existed was green all the way down. The entire expanse was so green it reflected in the clouds above. The entire area was so enjoyable, so he decided to sit down and spend a little while here. He glanced beside him and his gaze met with his grandfather's. The man appeared a little younger than Adrian had remembered him. He smiled sheepishly at him and waved.“Pa?” He called as he usually does when he was still alive. Adrian didn't understand how he could have met him so he passed the moment off for a dream. “Hsy, son,” he said with a smile, his voice sounded more energetic but it was still the familiar voice remembered as a kid. “What..??” He asked. “Why are you here?” Adrian asked. The man chuckled. “I am not Adrian, you are probably imagining me,” he explained with a frail and enigmatic tone. “Why… Why would I be ima

The door clicked open and Linda stepped in with Blinks by her side. He glanced at them and smiled, he felt a little okay with them being here, he couldn't deny that. Growing up for the most part of his life, he didn't necessarily have friends because he never really trusted anyone enough. The pain the Brooks family put him through always made him afraid of people and it made him a little afraid for himself sometimes. He was a grown up now and he knew how to keep his fears bottled. He understood what it means to have people that cared about you, not for what you are or what you have. Just as they stepped in, a third visitor was with them and the person was covering their face with a bunch of flowers. Adrian couldn't see them very well as his line of vision was pretty limited as he was laying on the bed. They got to his bed side and the person brought down the flowers and Adrian found himself smiling wider. It was Rose and she winked at him as he laid on the bed. “Hey guys,” he said

Adrian and the others didn't say anything for a while, and a heavy silence weighed on the room. The news was indeed scary. Whoever they were dealing with wasn't actually averse to offing people like they were flashlights. Two people had been murdered in this case and he still wondered how he was still alive. He wondered why the person hadn't just killed him in his sleep yesterday. The fake police man obviously worked for the person, so why kill them. He understood why he would kill the one he captured though, what he didn't understand was how he did it. Killing someone required a lot of effort, killing someone in a police office was a superhuman job to do. Adrian sighed and felt the energy he'd been slowly building up drain from his body. He felt as if there wasn't anything he could do and he should have just died when he had the chance. He thought over this for a while but after a while he shook it out of himself. If the person could kill him that easily they would have done so a

Adrian sat in of the seats in the restaurant, his eyes darting around while Rose who sat across him read a book manual in front of her. The place was arranged and spacious with luxurious furniture littering the place. Sitting at each table were different couples just sitting with each other and smiling about the day. “Isn't this place a little too fancy?” He inquired, a little disturbed. Even though he knew he was rich and could sort any bill left at his table, he knew Rose wasn't the kind to take him to a restaurant and expect him to pay. So he didn't think he was comfortable with her paying for this much fancy. “Yes, it is, I hope you have your wallet with you,” she snickered. She glanced up however and saw the disturbed look on his face. “Hey chill, it isn't that fancy, it's just the designs. It is okay.”Adrian shifted uncomfortably in the chair, the idea of her taking him out made him feel a little irresponsible but he kept his mouth shut. “So what are you going to eat?” She as

The dinner ended on a moody note with Adrian wondering what sort of secret Rose was hiding. He began to wonder what kind of family she was actually from. Although it didn't really matter to him, he liked her and he enjoyed her company. He wanted their moments to last as much as possible. He raised his eyes and then looked at her as the waiter came back and handed her the card she'd given him earlier. “Ma'am,” the waiter bowed. “Are you done?” He asked. “Yes,” Rose replied with a little shakiness in her voice. Adrian realized her face was a little sad, she probably hadn't expected the conversation to go this sour. “Are you okay?” He asked her, peering her eyes into his. “I am, a bit. I just… I just have a lot of nonsense going through my head,” she said with a sigh.“I understand,” Adrian nodded. “A lot of things are running through here too,” he tapped his head. “But I have a solution, kind of. It of course won't solve our problem permanently but it would give us this moment,” he

He glanced at everyone seated one after the other and he realized the entire family was here. She hadn't called him for a party, no she'd called him in to accuse him and mock him. He decided to play this as gently as possible, although her words now almost tipped his edge but he still held fast. “How do you mean ma'am?” He inquired with confusion well plastered on his face. The woman glanced at him for a while. “I mean, you have been a thorn in my side for a while but I know you orchestrated those policemen just so you can get on my food side. However the cops told me they discovered the same poison that killed my husband in their hands,” the woman narrated. “And how is this supposed to concern me?” She asked. “I mean if we can find the vial of poison in your room doesn't that confirm you as the killer.” She asked with a chuckle. At this point Adrian was fed up, he heard footsteps come from the Lady's inner office and Linda was standing there holding a bunch of files; the moment sh

Adrian sat in the front seat of Blink's car and hadn't let out a word since they'd left the mansion. Blinks had tried speaking to him but he wasn't necessarily interested in talking, he stared at the car window, watching several buildings they passed through. In reality though he didn't see any of them, he was lost in the confines of his thoughts. He didn't think the reaction of Lady Barbara would have hurt him that much. He thought after years of being treated less than a human he'd already understood that the family; his foster family would never accept him. In one corner of his heart he wanted their validation in some ways and he'd realized now that it was folly to think that they'd ever see him in the light he wanted them to see him. He had now realized he had to show them who he was. He knew one of them had tried to kill Mr. Brooks; maybe it was all of them, whoever it was he would get to the bottom of it. While he did that, he was going to get his respect from each and everyon

He sighed before picking up the call his mood deteriorated faster than air leaves a broken balloon. He didn't say anything and waited for the dialer to speak while he wondered what the girl could want to tell him. If she wanted to apologize, then should save it, he wasn't interested in all that nonsense. “Hello, Adrian,” she greeted. “Yes, hey,” he replied.“We need to talk,” she went straight to the point, Adrain shuffled and squeezed his face in confusion. “About what?” He asked. “Just come and meet me, I will text you the address,” Adrian could feel her roll her eyes. “Huh alright,” Adrian said. Savannah hung up almost immediately and Adrian turned to Blinks. “A man cannot just rest right?” He shook his head.“Well!” He chuckled. “I am the bodyguard here and I am not complaining,” he said and then got up from the beach sand. “Oh, I will miss that feeling,” he muttered as they both walked back to their car.Adrian felt much better and his head felt clearer than it had been

The tension in the room was palpable as everyone took their seats in the large, ornate boardroom. The long, polished mahogany table gleamed under the soft glow of the chandelier, and the walls were lined with portraits of the Brooks family, their stern faces watching over the gathering. It was a room where the most critical decisions in the company’s history had been made, but today, the atmosphere was different—heavier, almost suffocating.Adrian sat near the end of the table, his jaw clenched as he watched the members of the board filter in. He had barely slept the night before, the adrenaline from the chase still coursing through his veins. Blinks had assured him that the police would handle the aftermath, but it was hard to shake the feeling that something was still unresolved. He glanced around the room, noting the tense expressions on the faces of the board members and family members who had been summoned to this urgent meeting. Whispers filled the air, speculation running rampa

The evening air was cool against his flushed skin, but there was a heaviness in his chest that wouldn’t go away. The door slammed shut behind him, muffling the sounds of heated arguments and panicked voices. He spotted Blinks near the garden, pacing back and forth with his phone pressed to his ear."Blinks!" Adrian called out as he jogged toward him, the urgency in his voice undeniable. "What’s going on?"Blinks turned to him, his face a mask of grim determination. He quickly ended the call and slipped his phone into his pocket. "We’ve got a serious problem, Adrian," he said, his voice low and tense. "Lazzaro’s gone desperate. Mr. Shin just sent word from the Black community—Lazzaro’s put a hit out on you. A group of assassins is on their way right now."Adrian felt a cold chill race down his spine. "Assassins? The grand hall was in utter disarray, a cacophony of raised voices and frantic gestures. The revelation that Adrian was the sole heir to Mr. Brooks’ empire had thrown the room into chaos. Lady Barbara was on the verge of fainting, Ada was livid, and Raymond and Lazzaro were locked in a heated argument with Anthony, who was valiantly trying to maintain control. It was then that the door to the hall creaked open, and the man who had been presumed dead, the very man who was the catalyst of this storm, walked in.Mr. Brooks stood at the entrance, his imposing figure framed by the light filtering in from the hallway. His presence was like a cold gust of wind that swept through the room, instantly silencing the tumult. All eyes turned to him, the shock evident on every face.“Father?” Adrian’s voice was the first to break the silence, disbelief etched in every syllable.“Yes, Adrian,” Mr. Brooks replied, his tone even, though his eyes softened as they met his son’s. “I’m alive. The towering Brooks mansion loomed ahead as Adrian, Anthony, and Blinks approached in tense silence. The weight of the moment was palpable, each step they took echoing on the gravel driveway like the ticking of a clock counting down to an inevitable confrontation. Adrian’s heart raced as they reached the grand entrance, the large oak doors standing tall as if guarding the secrets within. For Adrian, this was a place of many firsts—the first time he set foot in the Brooks estate as a member of the family he was about to reveal himself to. The mansion’s grandeur could not mask the rot that had festered within its walls for years. Today, that rot was about to be exposed. The doors swung open, revealing a dimly lit grand hall. Lady Barbara stood near the fireplace, her posture straight but her face drawn with weariness. Ada and Raymond sat on one of the long couches, their expressions impatient and guarded. Lazzaro, leaning casually against the wall, gave Adrian a cold, calculating glanc

Mr. Brooks glanced at Adrian, his expression softening as he saw the storm of emotions in his son’s eyes."Adrian," Mr. Brooks began, his voice calm but heavy with the weight of what he needed to say. "I know you have a lot of questions. I owe you some answers."Adrian’s gaze remained fixed on the windshield, his jaw clenched. "You think?" he muttered, his tone sharp. "Why didn’t you tell me you were my father? Why let my mother suffer all these years? Why leave us in the dark?"Mr. Brooks sighed, rubbing his temples as if trying to ease the guilt that had been gnawing at him for years. "I wanted to protect you, Adrian. But I realize now that I failed in doing so."Adrian finally turned to look at him, his eyes filled with a mixture of anger and confusion. "Protect me? From what? From you? From the truth?""From the world," Mr. Brooks r

The events of the past few hours had left him seething with anger. “We need to get Rose somewhere safe,” Adrian finally said, his voice tight with restrained fury.Blinks nodded in agreement. “Agreed. She shouldn’t be here when we go after Lazzaro.”They didn’t waste any time. Within minutes, Rose was ready to go, her expression calm but determined. She wasn’t the type to show fear, and even now, after everything that had happened, she remained composed. “Where are we going?” Rose asked as Adrian helped her into the car.“To the police station,” Adrian said. “You’ll be under Penelope and Ramsey’s protection. They’ll keep you safe until this is over.”Rose nodded, trusting Adrian’s judgment. As much as she wanted to stay by his side, she knew that her safety—and the safety of their unborn child—was the priority. The drive to the station was tense but silent. Stay low,” Blinks replied, ending the call before Adrian could respond. He quickly strapped on his holster, tucking a few extra magazines into his jacket. Before leaving, he dialed another number—Ramsey’s.“Ramsey, it’s Blinks. Adrian’s under attack. Restaurant in the high-rise. Get units there, now.”“Got it. I’ll send a team. You sure you don’t want to wait?” Ramsey’s voice was calm, but there was a note of urgency beneath it.“No time. I’ll handle it until you get there.” Blinks didn’t wait for a reply. As they approached Adrian and Rose’s table, he felt a chill run down his spine. He subtly shifted his position, placing himself closer to Rose. One of the robbers, a tall man with cold eyes, pointed his gun at Adrian. "Wallet, now," the man ordered, his voice a low growl.Adrian nodded slowly, trying to keep his movements calm and deliberate. "Sure, no problem." He reached into his pocket, pulling out his wallet and holding it out for the man to take. The robber snatched it from his hand without a word, stuffing it into a bag slung over his shoulder.Just as Adrian thought they were moving on, the robber barked, "Head up! Le
