He sighed before picking up the call his mood deteriorated faster than air leaves a broken balloon. He didn't say anything and waited for the dialer to speak while he wondered what the girl could want to tell him. If she wanted to apologize, then should save it, he wasn't interested in all that nonsense.

“Hello, Adrian,” she greeted.

“Yes, hey,” he replied.

“We need to talk,” she went straight to the point, Adrain shuffled and squeezed his face in confusion.

“About what?” He asked.

“Just come and meet me, I will text you the address,” Adrian could feel her roll her eyes.

“Huh alright,” Adrian said.

Savannah hung up almost immediately and Adrian turned to Blinks. “A man cannot just rest right?” He shook his head.

“Well!” He chuckled. “I am the bodyguard here and I am not complaining,” he said and then got up from the beach sand. “Oh, I will miss that feeling,” he muttered as they both walked back to their car.

Adrian felt much better and his head felt clearer than it had been

It's been about three days since Adrian had decided to set up his room and he'd brought several materials with Blinks. He brought tiny security cams, so that he'd always know who entered his room and when. He also changed the lock to his room, in case anyone wanted to break in. He knew he was now liable to having something placed inside his room just to frame him. Though, genuinely, he has been a little bit confused about the Brook's family lately. Ada and Lazzaro were acting weirdly towards him. They’d see him in the morning and greet him like they were long lost friends. Raymond on the other hand was a little jealous of his position, but he maintained a feigned distance. Lady Barbara obviously still hated him and believed him to be the family’s cause of pain. Savannah maintained her usual demeanor and just silently paced around the house, obscured from the squabbles. Adrian, currently at his garden, wetting his garden crops when he had a little shuffle behind him. He glanced behi

He walked into the Castle and Castle building and the middle aged receptionist smiled at him as he entered. He waved at her and she nodded back. He headed towards the elevator and waited till it dinged open. While he waited, he caught his own reflection and smiled. He was dressed in a blue suit that was being complimented by the light blue shirt he wore within it. His shoe was a darker shade of brown and it was well polished. He’d spent the night before making sure it was sleeker than it looked when he got it. He was still smiling at himself when the elevator’s door opened and two people walked out of it. He glanced up to see Mr. Desmond and Doctor Huns. “Ah ah,” Mr. Desmond exclaimed in a cheerful tone upon seeing him. “Are you not Anthony's new partner?” He asked with a face that was full of smiles. “Yes… yes,” Adrian nodded. “My name is Adrian,” he smiled. He didn't think he was comfortable with being known as “Anthony's new partner.”Doctor Huns just looked at him and scoffed.

It was a young fair lady standing in front of him. It was at that moment Adrian realized that the button he pressed was to buzz in a personal assistant. “Can you get me coffee?” He asked. The woman nodded and gave him a smile. “Would you like biscuits to go with it sir,” the girl asked. He nodded and the girl smiled and walked away. “I am sorry,” Adrian called her back. “What is your name?”“Adeline,” the girl said. “Everyone calls me Ade. It is a pleasure to meet you sir,” she bowed and walked away. Adrian smiled, he didn't know he would have a personal assistant. The offices on this floor were certainly too large for him to meet the personnel working in them. He began to watch his video and take down notes when Adeline arrived. The lady placed down a mug of coffee on the table and a box of biscuits to follow. He glanced up at her and said thank you. She nodded and stood in front of him. “Will that be all sir?” She asked. “Uhm, no. “ He said. “I actually need your help with a lit

Adrian stood up from his desk and decided to take a stroll round the office. He wanted to go to each floor and check out what was going on in there. It was his company after all and it was high time he accepted that reality. He wanted to know the workers and what exactly they did in a building of almost thirty one floors. He hasn't seen any production or trading going on here. What he has seen though was an unhealthy amount of workers going in and coming out. So he was interested in knowing what they were doing. Normally, he could have just asked Mr. Anthony, but Adrian didn't like bothering the man for everything. He wanted to be a capable man on his own. On his way he bumped into Adeline who was currently carrying a couple of files towards his office. He glanced at her and the awkwardness in her posture made him amused.“Oh, sorry sir!” She bowed slightly. “I got the files you told me to gather,” she smiled. Adrian glanced at her from head to toe focusing his eyebrows on her. He w

He glanced at the text for a few seconds, not knowing what to think of it. He shook his head and hurriedly texted Blinks. “What do you mean?” He asked and dropped his phone into his pocket. He knew Blinks probably won't be able to text while driving. Adeline sat beside Adrian feeling a little uncomfortable, there was an eerie silence in the car as they drove downtown. It was around four o’clock and the sun had already begun to fade away. Its form in the far distance was a big ball of fire but the entire atmosphere was getting darker. Adrian glanced at Adeline and he saw her clutching her bag to her chest like she was holding it to save her life. “Why are you jittery?” Adrian asked with a chuckle. Adeline glanced at him. “I… I have never actually gone out with Mr. Anthony before, so I am just surprised,” she explained. “... definitely not scared,” she muttered silently under her breath. Adrian laughed. “You are funny,” he said. “I am not trying to make you uncomfortable, but you s

Adrian knelt, his eyes fixated on the destroyed garden, his entire being picturing the amount of time he’s spent on this small piece of land, thinning, trimming, planting, cultivating. He’d spend his best days and his worst days here and it had been ripped apart. He knew the Brooks family knew he didn't kill the man, they know he is innocent but they have decided to become an active antagonist in his life.As he watched the garden now, every single emotion he had been trying to bottle up, all the pains and the hurts, all of them had reached the peak of his throat. At the moment, he couldn't feel the wind blowing, nor could he smell the stinky scent of manure that filled the air, even the voices of people speaking behind him felt like distant cries of hunting wolves. He felt nothing at that moment but rage. Seething, theming and boiling rage. He stood up from the ground, and glanced at the people around the area, it was the maids. All of them were trying to show their sympathy to him

The long, polished mahogany table gleamed under the soft glow of the chandelier, and the walls were lined with portraits of the Brooks family, their stern faces watching over the gathering. It was a room where the most critical decisions in the company’s history had been made, but today, the atmosphere was different—heavier, almost suffocating.Adrian sat near the end of the table, his jaw clenched as he watched the members of the board filter in. He had barely slept the night before, the adrenaline from the chase still coursing through his veins. Blinks had assured him that the police would handle the aftermath, but it was hard to shake the feeling that something was still unresolved. The evening air was cool against his flushed skin, but there was a heaviness in his chest that wouldn’t go away. Adrian called out as he jogged toward him, the urgency in his voice undeniable. "What’s going on?"Blinks turned to him, his face a mask of grim determination. He quickly ended the call and slipped his phone into his pocket. "We’ve got a serious problem, Adrian," he said, his voice low and tense. "Lazzaro’s gone desperate. Mr. Shin just sent word from the Black community—Lazzaro’s put a hit out on you. A group of assassins is on their way right now."Adrian felt a cold chill race down his spine. "Assassins? For Adrian, this was a place of many firsts—the first time he set foot in the Brooks estate as a member of the family he was about to reveal himself to. The mansion’s grandeur could not mask the rot that had festered within its walls for years. Today, that rot was about to be exposed. The doors swung open, revealing a dimly lit grand hall. Mr. Brooks glanced at Adrian, his expression softening as he saw the storm of emotions in his son’s eyes."Adrian," Mr. Brooks began, his voice calm but heavy with the weight of what he needed to say. "I know you have a lot of questions. I owe you some answers."Adrian’s gaze remained fixed on the windshield, his jaw clenched. "You think?" he muttered, his tone sharp. "Why didn’t you tell me you were my father? Why let my mother suffer all these years? Why leave us in the dark?"Mr. Brooks sighed, rubbing his temples as if trying to ease the guilt that had been gnawing at him for years. "I wanted to protect you, Adrian. But I realize now that I failed in doing so."Adrian finally turned to look at him, his eyes filled with a mixture of anger and confusion. "Protect me? From what? From you? She shouldn’t be here when we go after Lazzaro.”They didn’t waste any time. Within minutes, Rose was ready to go, her expression calm but determined. She wasn’t the type to show fear, and even now, after everything that had happened, she remained composed. “Where are we going?” Rose asked as Adrian helped her into the car.“To the police station,” Adrian said. “You’ll be under Penelope and Ramsey’s protection. They’ll keep you safe until this is over.”Rose nodded, trusting Adrian’s judgment.
