"He has a point " Frank said, speaking for the second time.
"It's not a good point." Liam said. "I didn't think you were a scaredy-cat Jodge. I think we should split up, that way we can be done before the time is up. "Jodge seemed impatient enough to come back at Liam, but then he quelled. "I am not scared, but if you guys insist, then let's go our separate ways"" Who is taking this one then?" Glenda asked. There was silence among them for a brief moment, as they looked anxiously at each other."I'll take it" Lance said. "You guys move on"They all nodded and headed out in opposite directions."Alright. It's me and you dear Liburnum. You better treat me right " Lance muttered when the others had gone off.He exhaled deeply, then crouched beside the plant. It was small in stature, slender and beautiful, almost docile. How could such a thing be that deadly? But it's teeth were long and colorful needle-like spikes, and could reach as far as even the receptacle. And what was even the point of plucking it at the receptacle if the needles could reach there.Maybe they didn't, and that was a safe base. He would have to find out anyway. In his own world gloves would have prevented such a thing.Gloves.Where was he to get such? when he was running out of time. Did Golredot even know what they were? as this place seemed archaic enough. This was obviously a time that corresponded with the 1800s.He touched the base of the stem where it was rooted to the ground, the teeth snapped quickly in the direction he had touched, as he expected, nothing happened. That was goodnews.Maybe he could do this without even breaking a sweat. He moved his hand slowly up the stem, almost arriving the green cup-like base that held the flowers, and the teeth kept snapping without reaching him.Right. Almost there. He just needed to pay focus. He could see if he looked closely, to his dread, a tiny white fluid was at the tip of the needles. He touched the base of the receptacle and the needles swung again for him, but didn't get him.He could pull it from here. This was close enough. He gripped the receptacle more firmly now, when someone close by shouted and jumped, making Lance jump too.The chestnut-skinned girl next to him had been stung by the flower and she clutched her hand and frantically attempted to suck out whatever poison had entered, but her teammates held her still.Lance still startled, felt a throbbing pain on his finger, and he looked at it, the pin-prick of blood. His heart caught in his throat. He had been stung. The girl, still panicking, was carried off to get treated.Jodge and the rest were coming back then with their own flowers dead and yellow in their hands.Everything he had been trying to avoid now was going to come upon him. This was the moment, his doom had come.He hid his affected hand in his robe pocket."Hey, what's going on, you ain't plucked yours yet?" Glenda approached him first, worry beginning to register on her features. And she raised a brow, the others mirroring her curious look. But he didn't have to tell them. They were not supposed to know. It'd end up hindering the group from the spell lessons they still had coming up.After all, there was hope, he didn't have to fret so much because there was a cure. All he had to do was get treated on time.So he'd wait it out, and finish the fire lessons first, "No, I'm just..I guess I'm slower than you all" He responded, composing himself the best he could."We have our scaredy-cat, alright" Frank said."Don't worry, let me do it " Jodge said. And in no time, he had plucked it free from it's stem, the last Liburnum they needed.Back at the classroom Miss. Eloise had instructed each group to start their own preparations of the Nummix potion. So the students clustered around different desk in their different groups and began the potion making, amid a cacophony of noises and pestle on mortar.Lance and his group were at the desk by the edge of the wall, closest to the cupboard. Glenda crushed the Liburnum leaves in a small mortar while Frank scooped some black clay from the cupboard.Miss. Eloise strolled around the groups, observing. "Making this potion is actually another lesson of itself. And it is one of many potion making lessons you'll be learning. And you have quite a lot for your curriculum. "When Glenda had finely grounded the flower, Lance poured in the required amount of lime water, fully aware of the increased throbbing in his hand that had begun shooting waves of pain up his arm. Then Frank brought in the clay and soon their mixture was done, black and puddling.Glenda poured the mixture into their group's glass jar and set it along with the other jars already bottled and placed on the Dias. When all groups were done submitting their jars, Miss Eloise nodded and surveyed the classroom."I hope everyone who got stung has been taken to the medicals? Is there anyone here that has been affected? Pls it's necessary you go get treated now, you can still learn this later.Lance heart thudded heavily in his chest and for a moment fear threatened to overwhelm him but he reminded himself he didn't need the attention that going to the medic will bring to him. He'd find a way to get treated on his own.A moment passed and nobody came out, and then the lessons commenced. They were instructed to apply the potion as ointment on their arms, and faces.Soon enough everyone was looking like a charcoal mannequin of some sorts.Exercises were given out and the training commenced."The key is to breathe in and keep the fire vivid in your imagination. Then move your hands in the pattern I showed. " Miss. Eloise instructed loudly.Lance followed suit, trying to block out the fearful thoughts in his head. Thoughts of his impending death, being heralded by the pounding in his head now. Except he was already dead. The thought of being killed in the car accident was still vivid, the transmigration into a world of purple, of what his--"You're not focusing" Miss. Eloise voice startled him, and he popped his eyes open to see her glaring into his face."Sorry Miss. Eloise, I'm trying--""Clear your mind of every worry and distraction. Empty it and Focus. Feel the fire, and let it hear your summons, your call, then channel it through with the hand gesture. "Lance tried again, and he was able to clear his head. And when he did so, the emblems surged within him and then he made the pattern as instructed. A slow movement to the right, left, then a final circular motion and the fire appeared on his fingertips. And he wanted to jump for joy. "Good." Miss. Eloise said, moving on to the next person till everyone had yellow emblems snaking away at their fingertips, some looking like blackened scarecrows on fire.He tried to keep the tiny flame alive but it kept flickering out so much that it started annoying him. Jodge who had gotten his right as well, caught Lance's gaze and gave a smug grin. Then in a flash of a moment, his fire had morphed into a small ball and he hurled it towards Lance. "What the--!" Lance exclaimed and swerved
"What are we looking for exactly?" Frank asked. "I asked the ones who were affected and got treated, they said the physicians at the medic center used an antidote that was prepared here. The Nummix antidote" Glenda whispered, straining her eyes to spot what they were looking for in the dark, to no avail. "Right. And we could have just gone to the medic unit, since it's there. Logical enough. I don't see why no one thought of that""I think it's here. It must have been brought back obviously because what's from the Apothecary stays in the Apothecary, you should know that." Glenda said. "So what are we looking at exactly?" Frank said"A black glass jar like the Nummix." Frank said."I honestly didn't sign up for this, what if we get--" . "Being a girl again huh?"Glenda interjected. "It's not about being a girl, I have to say what I'm feeling! " Frank retorted. "Can you guys quiet it down and quit bickering all the time " Jodge said. And they searched on in silence for a while, th
"""""Jodge heard it too, and he had stood quietly from his seat, trying not to alert anyone and look conspicuous as he went in search of the voice. He left the back entrance to the Lyceum, reaching the small room that was divided into two hallways. One on the right led to the various Forts, and the other on the left, to the deeper parts of the Wiccan fortresses. The one on the left had grey-stone walls similar to a labyrinth and had dimly lit lamps in their sconces fixed to the wall. It interested him mostly because it was off limits to students, and he'd not being there yet. Then he heard it again. "Jodddgggee" And he shivered, in a way that felt good. The voice was faint, light, and distant, and it was coming from the hallway with grey-stones. He looked back for any chance of someone lurking around or having followed him, then he ventured into the passage. He took a torch, then thought better of it and dropped it back. The path was lit enough for him to see. On the walls w
"You're going to have to focus " Liam said for the first time since their arrival at the valley. "I'm trying." He cleared his mind again, like Miss. Eloise had instructed and the fire stayed after a few trials. "Good. That's progress. Now try to grow the fire. It doesn't require much... just focus again, and tell the fire what you desire it to do, and it'll obey you" Lance closed his eyes and tried again to focus. And for a moment, he wondered what was going on back at his place, if anyone still remembered him? His colleagues at work and the manager who had sacked him. That was just about everyone he knew in his life, after his parents left the world. Perhaps his parents had only transmigrated to another world? Like he had done... and he could find them? Maybe he only had to search for the world they were in and he'd find them. There was no need. A deep part of him knew they were gone forever. He tried to focus back on the task at hand, only he couldn't feel anything again."L
He checked for any indication of someone else being awake, but it was only an occasional stir from Lance on his bed, and grunting. When he was satisfied he wouldn't be caught or followed, he went out of the dorm and down to the lobbyroom which was also empty. The metal door to the Lyceum and other Forts were locked. Luckily for him, Fort A was the only fort that had naturally open access to the labyrinth as it was on the left side, opposite the entrance to the lobbyroom. He tiptoed across the floor to the hallway, and then paused to check for voices, or signs of any staff still awake, or even the professor. But there was no voice. It had stopped calling his name. And the hall was empty. And so he went into the labyrinth. He took one of the torches this time around and continued on his way. He had gotten to the place where he hid before, the caved in boulders, when he saw the faint glow. Then he came upon a rocky open space, where the glow was brightest, where it was actually
"The Article at the Library " Jodge said, looking excited at having gotten the class and Mr.Knap's attention on him. "Do you think you can show me this piece of article?" "Actually it was taken from me by the librarian, and she told me not to meddle with it again, as it was part of the restricted materials there and was not for use""She's right. You shouldn't read it, or be curious about it. The Eskern language was abolished for a reason. But to douse your curiosities and not leave you wandering about wanting to find out more about what is supposedly restricted... The meaning of this symbol was recovered sooner after the Great Battle. The leader of the Eskern Army revealed this when he was captured and tortured, and asked why they decided to resort to evil. It means *to behold and become the revelation.*... I bet your article must have been talking about the Great Battle. " Jodge nodded even though it wasn't a question. Mr.Knap reviewed him, as if actually looking at him for the
"But you're still the better of us though. Hopefully you can impress her on that day, make her think good of you, as opposed to the last time."Lance frowned. "I'll pass" Liam got up. "I am glad then you're alright. You should go get ready for classes today. We are having none other than Mr.Chaney. I think it's going to be a hectic session traveling worlds. You don't want to miss out on the fun."Lance and Liam were early to class and had settled down when Mr. Chaney walked into the classroom. "Hello Level Twos" He greeted, and they students responded with enthusiasm. He dropped his World books on the chair on the podium and went closer to the students. "Now before I continue, I'd like to address an issue" He said, and the class went silent, mostly the ones from FortA, as he was their headmaster. Normally there were cases of broken bunks, burnt beds and destroyed equipments by mischievous which he always addressed and dealt with. So much that if he had developed gray hairs becau
The enormous beast was a dinosaur and it roared so mightily that the ground shook with it. The atmosphere had gone into hysteria, the students screaming and scampering left and right. "Everybody take cover!!!..get behind me everyone" Mr. Chaney shouted, taking out his wand. Lance was a bit dazed at the magnanimity of the the dinosaur. In his world these creatures had just been myths, fiction stories from novels. Never in the world could he have believed they existed and were this huge. It was easy to believe their necks reached the sky. What in the world was the boy thinking to have thought to the world of dinosaurs? Lance made a mental note to ask him, if at all they even survived this. Mr. Chaney was creating Portals upon portals in every direction the beast aimlessly went,--stumping it's mighty foot and rumbling, it's voice like many thunders-- but it proved futile because the archaic beast seemed to know what he was up to and swerved away from each and every portal.
