An erratic screeching was the first to welcome her back to consciousness.

Valerie's head pounded with a brain-splitting headache as her eyes slowly peered open, allowing rays of glistening light to seep in through the almost open eyelids that almost blinded her. Her eyes squinted, and her head was still so fuzzy that she could barely make out anything from the distorting image of the surroundings about her. Only the fact that a light bulb remained above her head, blaring its light on her.
