A Second Chance in Time

Prologue

Hi, I'm Mark and while I'm not the strongest and neither do I have any unique ability, most of my opportunities being either wasted or given away one way or another, I'm the one that survived the most.

And this ending of mine is very fitting: the last demon is about to kill the last human, well not last, since there is still one city left, but details don‘t matter.

Oh, look, Ho'arkhan, the last demon, is about to finally kill me.

"Fuck you too, oh ‘last one‘, I wish you a lovely life“

Those are my last words.

“Same for you, same for you“

To be put out of this misery I call life is quite comforting I must say.

No longer do I feel pain, must be my brain shutting down.

Oh, I just lost all of my senses and the ability to move my body as well, not that I care about it, I‘m dying and there is nobody out there strong, close or fast enough to save me.

Farewell life, I don't want to ever see you again.

“Sorry, you won‘t be getting it, also, yes, you are technically dead as your soul has perminentaly detached from your body“

"Either way, hello and welcome to the Regression and Reincarnation agency agency. Due to your peculiar achievements, you have been fo- ahem, given the chance to go back in time, as well as three wishes."

Hold your horses. I'm not dead?!

"Yes, since you are an incomplete soul, I will be forcefully using one wish to restore your soul after this. As an incomplete soul, you will lose a few things of yours, in this case you have lost most of your senses, your ability to speak as well as a few memories"

Ok, so can I use my remaining wishes to hav-

"Don't be surprised by your lack of emotion, since the past guests were so emotional after coming here, I simply suppressed their emotions, so now no shouting, crying or annoying nagging."

"You can call me Rex and I'll be the one attending you, since you are broken, I already reserved one wish to repair you."

But what about my w-

"Don't worry about communicating, I'm reading your thoughts, so feel free to think of anything and I'll know it immediately"

Since I can't get my wish, tell me the limitations of what I can't get.

"You can't get items, living beings, become OP from start or be god and you can't use the wishes for other. There are other limitations, such as having two opposite abilities, example would be "death manipulation" and "life manipulation", though they can by bypassed by using your brains, not that you have any, since you're a soul and all"

Then what do you recommend me?

"The first would be the increase of your talents, innate skills or getting a bloodline, though there are options like removing the potential limiter on you, but it's up to you.“

 If you use your words correctly, you can wish for multiple things in a single wish, though then the things you wish for will become weaker or rather gain a limit on what level of strength they get, to put it into perspective, if you wish for Durandal, then you will get the original unless specified otherwise.“

„If you wish for Durandal and Gae Bolg, then their strength will be decrease by 5% due to the limit, though if you ask for ten normal swords then you will experience no decrease at all, you would need at least a million to get a decrease in power and even then the limit would have too many zeroes in it."

Then for my first wish remove my potential limiter. Now give me like five minutes to think.

"OK, the first wish is granted. I'll stop reading your mind for the time being, after five minutes tell me weather you are ready or not to tell me the second wish"

OK, bye then. Moving on, let's eliminate the obvious ones like getting skills or thing that are useless to me. The "survivor" title is very tempting, though since I might lose my memories, I should wish for it.

<1 minute later>

"Sorry for interrupting, but I forgot to tell that you will be reborn with your memories intact since I will be using one wish to repair your soul"

That's relieving, so I can cross that of my list. Then let's eliminate stat-boosting skills, skills that can be gained easily and in fact the majority of my skills, since they can be re-learned. That leaves me with one question. Let's wait for the remaining time to be over.

No, but I have a question - will my innate skills remain the same or not?

"They will remain, albeit reset, the damage you took to your soul remained for too long and I must decrease the rank of innate skills automatically, so I cannot fix it fully, but it's only the innate skills got a decrease in effect, the other skills are gone, though your soul did get tougher and due to the surprisingly long time your soul was exposed to the damage, you got 'soul regeneration'.“

„Your soul got wounded since, after surpassing your limits so many times while fighting your last battle, your soul got some cracks, the final straw was coming in contact with void.“

„You touched the void, so your soul received pretty serious damage. Luckily a colleague of mine was there so he saved you. You also gained a slight affinity for void, and as a ripple effect, a minor affinity for time and a minor affinity for space, so I think all ended well. Though don't worry, the soul damage that was not healed now will recover in time."

Then lets eliminate bloodline, since that could be acquired, though it's very difficult and by difficult I mean less than 1 thousand people got a non-inborn bloodline and when compared to the 7-ish billion remaining superhumans, that is very small.

Though I remember a few items that could awaken your bloodline. Another few things to eliminate are increase in stat, transcendent skills, concepts and the like, getting other type additional skills and authority.

Stat increase is useless since I can increase it myself manually, transcendent skills are also useless since unless you meet the prerequisites first, you can't get it and even then, the drawback aren't worth it 9 out of 10 times.

Additional skills might be worth it, but I can get the skills I want one way or another.

Authority is the most useless out of them all, since first it's only useful if you are level 200 or above and even then, prerequisites exist and the only thing you get out of them is more control over things the authority governs.

Also, one of the drawbacks is influence of the authority over you if the authority isn't made by you and it's not a price I'm willing to pay.

The influence I'm talking about is becoming more similar to the authority in the mind, so if I have a fire related authority, it becomes harder to remain calm and easily explode in anger, the opposite is for water, though if I become angry, the anger becomes a storm and it's very difficult to calm down. Then being though about that, lets get a few talents and increase of talent.

Ok, I've decided on my second wish.

I wish to get the 'magic', 'surviving', 'fighting', 'blacksmithing', 'tailoring' and 'create' talents while receiving as much of an increase for 'spear' and 'axe', same going for the first six talents as well.

"Both wishes will be granted while I send you back in time.

"Before I forget, you will get early access to the system, though only the most important features and the items in the shop will be limited to E–-rank.“

"Second, as I mentioned before, due to your damage to the soul, you got the passive skills "soul regeneration" and "hard soul". "Soul regeneration" is at D+-rank while the other skill is G-rank.“

"I only noticed the "hard soul" skill just now since it was so weak, don't worry, it will improve after the soul recovers. Third is you will be reincarnated as a baby, so don't freak out when you feel so small."

Rex, can I change my wishes?

"No, they are already processed and ready to implement, moving on, the last thing is you are not the only one being regressed, there are another few, though you're the only who got three wishes.“

"The others got two, though one of two regressors' wishes were used to repair the serious soul damage they received, be wary of tehm, since they got similar benefits. Now you are free to go, happy journey, I put in a gift box worth the remaining of your achievement points, all the other regressors got a gift box as well, though since they got more achievement points left, they got better stuff."

Then can you explain me what achievement I got?

"No problem. Your biggest achievement is being the only human to witnes the end of this world"

So I was the onlu human left?

"Yes, the remaining human settlements were dealt with by the beasts that the last demon redirected"

That's kinda sad

"I know, right?

"Either way, the fact that you got the "survivor" title below level 50 counts as an achievement worthy of prase, since all the other humans except you got it being at least level 89."

"The last big achievement you got was dir having the most resistances in the entire world, the closest other person was 48, while you got over 80."

"In fact, you got many resistances that were unique to you like 'aphrodisiac resistance' or 'acid resistance', there are a few other, but they aren't as unique as the ones I mentioned."

"'Aphrodisiac resistance is nigh-impossible to get due to the fact that all beings' bodies that could be affected by aphrodisiacs don't consider it a harmful substance so nobody except you got it. "

"'Acid resistance' is the same as in order to get resistance to acid you must get tougher skin or be a being that was born from acid slike acid slimes and such."

"You, instead, got a bullshit resistance that ignores logic, because you got resistance to acid without your skin hardening"

"You also got plenty of other achievements, but they aren't as notable as the ones I told you about"
