Andrew dropped Rodney on the bed and walked out immediately. Rodney heard the key turning in the lock as he sunk into an unconscious state. He could feel his brain shutting down and the anguish in his heart. The world soon morphed into darkness as he lost consciousness. When he came to, after sometime, Rodney weakly looked around the room. It was pitch black, the only light being that which came to from the lights outside. His body was weak and he couldn’t even lift a finger. He was just lying there, staring listlessly at the ceiling when the door opened and Kara, the chef’s assistant walked in with a tray full of delicious food. She used one hand to turn on the lights forcing Rodney to shut his eyes. He opened them in bits so they could adjust to the bright light. When he fully opened them, he saw Kara setting the food on the table. One of Alberto’s men was standing at the door with a pistol in his hand. “You turned us in,” Rodney accused. “Your actions led to the death of my moth
When Rodney woke up, he was in the bedroom assigned to him at Alberto’s house. He stared at the ceiling, unable to determine how long he had been out. He wasn’t sure it was the same day. He didn’t feel any different from normal so he was pretty sure he still had his kidney. A few minutes later, he was out again. When he came to, he noticed there was food and drinks on the table. Rodney managed to get himself up. He sat near the table and drank a whole glass of water. He could fell the relief as the water ran down his parched throat. He grabbed a bowl of pasta, poured sauce over it and started eating. When he finished, he grabbed a burger and quickly bit into it. He felt hungrier than normal. It had to be the drug the orderly had given him. The thirst, hunger and drowsiness were most likely some of the side effects. After eating, Rodney went and washed himself up. When he returned, he drank all the passion fruit juice that had been brought then went to lie on the bed. A few minute
Rodney Nelson was now a millionaire. He had clean money in the bank and could live all his life without working as long as he spent well and made good investments. It was his last day at Alberto’s mansion. Alberto had tried to convince him to stay but he refused. He didn’t want to live a life surrounded by drugs, guns, violence and death. The only person he pitied in that house was Lyra who had no choice in the matter.Lyra couldn’t let go of him. She and Rodney had bonded a lot during the time he stayed there. They had even gone to see his mother’s grave together. She was the only one of his siblings he felt a connection with. The rest didn’t care if he lived or died, and honestly, he also didn’t care about them.“Leave him to go,” her mother said. She went and pulled her daughter away. “I don’t know what nonsense you have been feeding my daughter to make her stay close to you but I’ve had enough. It’s great that you are leaving.”Lyra was crying and struggling against her mother. “S
CHAPTER NINETEENNew York City was exactly as Rodney had imagined. Tall buildings, huge traffic, crowded streets and fast moving people. It was spectacular, and he was glad he had made the decision to go there. Time’s square was a hub of activity, filled with businesses and people moving in all directions. Rodney and Harvey stood outside a McDonald’s restraint and watched people as they moved around like millions of ants. They were fascinated by what they were seeing. The movies had not prepared them for the real thing.“Still can’t believe I’m in the big apple,” Harvey. “Sorry you had to lose your kidney for us to get here but I feel so lucky now. You know that I will always be grateful. I will take care of you, my friend. I have a feeling we will have great success in this city.”“Me too,” Rodney said. Despite having lost a kidney, he felt normal. Everything seemed to be okay. As long as he followed a healthy lifestyle composed of good healthy food, lots of water, stress management,
After a few minutes, Rodney and Harvey got out of that particular taxi and got into another one to take them out of the city. Two hours later, they arrived in New Jersey, and checked into a mid-range hotel room. Harvey turned on the television and started to do a search on his phone to find out how much was known by the general public about the incident. “I don’t see our pictures anywhere,” Harvey said as he scrolled through his phone. “I wonder why the NYPD has not made any statement about the suspects.”“Maybe they want to give them a false sense of security,” Rodney told him.“Two people have died,” Harvey said. “We almost died, man.”“All because of that darned man. I’m very sure that this is related to Alberto. What am I going to do, Harvey? It seems like we may have to return to him for protection, but I cannot stand that man. I don’t think I can be in the same room with him and not want to strangle him. Going back is not an option I want to consider.”Harvey stood up and place
“You made my job easier by checking into that dump with hungry employees that are willing to sell their souls for money,” the woman continued. “I think now you understand why rich people go to the top hotels. It’s not all about bragging or extravagance. Security matters. When you have money, you don’t just go anywhere. It seems your daddy never taught you that before giving you a chunk of money.”“How do you know that he gave me money?” Rodney asked, giving the woman a quizzical look. He didn’t understand how she knew so much. Was someone in Alberto’s circle snitching on him? If so, that was a good thing. Served him right. He hoped that person could snitch on him to the police. If that happened, Rodney would forget about getting revenge on his father.“How did I know that you had travelled to New York?” she said with a smug look. “Research, is something you do before implementing a plan. I have been waiting for a long time to get back at that bastard. It has been years, and I have nev
“I told you,” Rodney said. “I’m nothing to that man. If you want revenge, get the children he loves.”“We would, but unfortunately, they are not idiots like you. They don’t go anywhere without guards. They don’t get into taxis, and neither do they check in to cheap rundown hotels.”“There’s the little one,” the man said.“No, leave Lyra out of this. She is an innocent person.”Ariadne sighed and ran a hand through her hair as she paced around the room in obvious distress. Her plans seemed to have fallen through before he even started. “The boy is right. We have no business ruining a child’s life. Marcus was that age, too. I will not touch that kid.”“Who was Marcus and what happened to him?”Suddenly the woman appeared next to Rodney and slapped him hard. “You are not here to ask questions about anything. And if I hear you say that name again, I swear I will kill you.”“Calm down, darling. Let’s go upstairs and come up with a plan.”“Wait, what if we torture him and send Alberto the v
As time went on, the gunshots increased in frequency. Rodney was torn between leaving the basement to find Harvey and staying to protect himself. Since the man had untied one of his hands, he used it to undo the ropes wound around the other. He proceeded to untie his legs that had been tied together. When he was finally free, he stood up and ran to the door. The shooting had stopped, but his heart was still beating fast. Rodney slowly opened the door and looked out. His lips parted when he saw a body on the floor. Although he could not see the face in that angle, he could tell it was the man who had spoken to him. He turned back into the room and locked the door. Since he had no idea what awaited him upstairs, he decided to remain until everything settled. However a light bulb went off in his head and he thought of the police. If they found him there, he would be dead meat. If the police found Alberto Roco’s son in a house with dead bodies, they’d definitely think he was the shooter
