I was outside the lodge, I kept looking at the place where the dungeon was. I was anxious to know what was going on, but I knew it was the stupidest thing I could do. That's how we all were, because everything was becoming too mysterious and dangerous.
It was still daylight, and most people were still watching the area.
From the window of my room I could also see everything that was going on, but from one moment to the next, like something almost apocalyptic, green creatures started to come out of there.
I took a good look at them, and they were not creatures, they were adventurers. When I saw that, I ran to the room where my companions were. I knocked several times until one of them opened the door.
-What's wrong? Why are you knocking like crazy?
-Someone came out of the dungeon.
-What is it?
-Yes, it's totally green.
When he heard that he grabbed his staff and left the room so fast I couldn't keep up with him. Oscar was half asleep in another bed, heard the conversation, and grabbed his face.
-I see...so they came out. I think they're going to kill those people.
-Why?
-They're all cursed or on somebody's orders. It's going to be a real problem. I've seen something like this in another city, it was devastating, there have been several cases like this, but never with so many people.
I was a little surprised to hear that. It was sad, they had to kill those people.
My partner stood up and wielded his daggers. He looked like he was ready for anything at that moment.
[...]
Oscar left the room without hesitation and I followed him. I also carried my sword, and was on the lookout for anything.
Many people were also going to the place where the dungeon was. Suddenly the bells of the guild were heard.
-They called all the adventurers to fight. This is very bad," he commented.
Things were probably getting out of control and everyone's help was needed. While we were trying to get to that place. We saw explosions occurring in different places, perhaps because of the different confrontations.
Suddenly we saw something approaching us, they were adventurers who were completely green. I started to talk to them in a peaceful way. I didn't want to kill them or anything like that.
-Why are you doing this?
-It's orders from the wizard Touche. The city is going to be wiped out and so are all the inhabitants. No one can get out of here alive.
-You're stupid, stop talking to him," Oscar shouted at me.
The green adventurer jumped on me trying to cut me with his weapon, luckily I could react and managed to dodge him. I pointed my sword at his head, and he stopped.
-Can't you stop," I asked him.
-We must wipe out the city. It is an order that you must fulfill," he answered.
Oscar did not hesitate to kill him soon after hearing that. He plunged a dagger into her head without hesitation and shouted at me.
-You are stupid! They are no longer with us! They are under a spell that no one can break!
Despite listening to my companion, I felt bad for doing this. They were adventurers like us and killing them seemed too cruel. I didn't answer him and kept walking towards the dungeon. He followed me and we both went there, a bit angry about that little incident.
[...]
We were at the borders where they fenced the dungeon with a kind of seal that was torn off. From there you could see hundreds of fights between thousands of people, it seemed to go on forever.
-How do you stop this?
-They have to kill all the spell casters, but the only worrying thing is that some of the heroes and elves that went in there. They are the most powerful in the whole place, they will be hard to kill.
He was quite serious, even though I could only see his eyes, I could hear the anguish in his voice.
We passed through the encircled place as if nothing had happened. Nobody attacked us, but everything became even more complicated than we thought it could be.
Out of nowhere came the strongest adventurers that were in that dungeon. The heroes who broke in came out of the dungeon. Their armors still looked imposing, even though they were green. They were too intimidating.
Oscar looked like he wanted to get out of there, he was shaking with fear when he saw them. And he was quite right, they were superior to us because of their experience and everything they had accomplished. Beating them was almost impossible. They were the only heroes that came to this place.
When they started walking towards us, some of the adventurers started to back up a little. Fear took hold of them, but it was a mistake to show weakness, because out of nowhere they attacked all the people there. That broke all the adventurers who were in that place.
From one moment to another one of them looked at me, maybe because of my sword.
Oscar saw that and moved away from me and went to fight somewhere else. He left me alone against a high level adventurer, whom I could not beat, but I was far away from him. That gave me time to run away from that place, but he was too fast in a matter of seconds I was almost halfway there.
I decided to run like crazy from that place, but he started to follow me without hesitation. I went all the way to the city. I tried to seek shelter in the little-traveled stone and brick alleys. I didn't want anyone to get hurt because of me, but unfortunately I came to a dead end.
When I wanted to turn back, he came to where I was. And he started walking slowly.
-The wizard needs your weapon," he said.
That hero was wearing a helmet and his face was much greener than his armor, maybe it was the spell he put on all of them.
I tried to give him my sword, but my hand started to shake. I noticed that he started to do shortly after he saw my weapon in front of him.
-You must die human.
It left me a little confused, now he wanted to kill me. I didn't need my gun anymore. Because of the doubts his behavior left me with, I made a decision and ran to him. I tried to hurt him, but it was the stupidest thing I did. He hit me in the head with the handle of his sword. It was so hard that I fell to the ground stunned.
He pointed his sword at me, which was quite long and looked sharp, I could count any coda. It was the only object that was not green. It still retained its silver color.
I thought he was going to kill me, but I was a little surprised. He didn't even try. He just stopped a bit, took his head and took off the case, even though his skin was green I could notice some facial features of him. His hair was long, and he had some fine features. His eyes were somewhat expressive. All of a sudden he spoke to me.
-So you aspire to be a hero. It's a pity for us there's not much to do. We are bewitched, we can't go back to normal and we will be slaves until someone finishes with this wizard. My sword is the same as yours, only I've been training for years and I've improved a lot.
He began to speak mechanically as if everything he said was what came into his head.
The sword he had had given him clarity to his actions and had a certain effect just like mine. At that moment I wanted to say something to him, but he turned away from me.
-My duty is to stop this. I can't against the wizard, but at least I will help the world understand the trouble that is coming. He left my helmet and my last breath against my own companions.
He sounded like quite the hero willing to die for his cause. Another might have left when he regained some of his consciousness and sought a cure, but he did not, he maintained his warrior's position and went to the encircled place where the fight was taking place.
I tried to follow him despite the blows I received. The people who were in the place began to look at us with some fear, but he did not do anything to them.
[...]
When the hero returned to the place where the confrontation continued. All those affected by the spell stopped as if something was calling them and looked at him, when they saw him they ignored all the people who saw them and were surprised.
I tried to get away from there, I thought that maybe they would come for me too and I didn't want to get hurt anymore. As I was walking away I heard the sound of blows and the crossing of swords. Although I was very curious to see what happened, my life came first.
Slowly I walked away from there and reached the guild. I looked for help to heal the blow to my head. I was almost crawling because everything was turning me around, I was very dazed.
While I was walking I saw two of the elves that had helped me to get out of the dungeon. They were surprised to see me like that.
-What happened to you?" one of them asked me.
-I was fighting and I got hit pretty hard...but at least I can walk....
They did a strange spell and a circle surrounded me. Slowly I started to feel better.
-We saw a spell hero fighting with the others who were just like him. We came to tell him the guild....
-He...somehow got out of the spell, I think because of his sword. He decided to die and stop everything.
They got serious, they didn't understand why I knew that, but they helped me get into the guild. Even though they had healed me.
[...]
The guild in this city was somewhat rustic, the seats were not tidy. They had different models, maybe there had been a lot of fights in this place and the reception was quite big. There were five receptionists manning the place, but they led me towards a rather old man, with a kind of cassock, bald, glasses and blue eyes, he was kind of tall and thin. When I saw him I guessed he was a guild leader.
The elves escorted me to him.
-He seems to have spoken to one of the spell casters," said one of them.
When I heard that, I was very scared, I thought they had something to do with what was going on, but I felt calmer when he spoke to me.
-I see, so could you explain to us how this happened? It had happened in other places, but no one had been able to break the spell, or talk to one of them.
-Well, I think it was his sword. I think he had a connection with it and it allowed him to come back to reality.
-Okay, that's pretty interesting. Thank you for your cooperation, but you must stay here. Until it's all over. You have a similar sword, so it would be interesting to do something with you.
I was a bit stunned to hear that. They wanted to experiment on me. I tried to object, but the elves stopped me.
-It's for your own good. Imagine if the same thing happened to you as they did on a mission. Don't you think it would be useful to get out of any spell.
I didn't like it at all, it gave me a chill to be someone's experiment, it seemed very dangerous, but no matter how hard I tried to escape. They immobilized me by force and locked me in a dark room, and they hit me on the head so I wouldn't try to escape.
[...]
I woke up hours later, there was a quietness in the city, which was difficult for me. I knew they were probably coming for me for their experiments.
My sword was on the floor and I felt footsteps around the door I knew they were already prepared to enter and just talk to know how to proceed in respect.
I closed my eyes and tried to pretend to be asleep to delay everything. Minutes later I heard the door open and several footsteps. Until I heard someone's voice.
-Hey, I have something to tell you. ....
From his tone of voice, I concluded that it was Alfred, my group mate. I opened my eyes and saw that he had a helmet in his hand. It looked like the hero's from earlier.
-He left this for you...he died like the other spellbound adventurers, but he said to give it to a young man who had a sword similar to his. From what everyone says it's you.
-Don't tell me, they sent you to convince me to let me do these things.
-Yes, if I were you I would allow it, you could save many lives. Do you know how many adventurers we had to kill?
-I don't know.
-All right, you can go, but please don't go to the dungeon area. It's pretty sad there where they bury all those who died, you'll get depressed if you go there.
I left that room without hesitation. I felt very angry. I saw many people in that place. They all looked at me and looked sad. I started to feel guilty and just looked at the floor. Until I got to the exit from there.
There were many injured people everywhere, and some houses were destroyed. The city couldn't cope with the tragedy that happened. I started to walk among all of them and arrived at the dungeon that had been made. I was surprised when I saw how countless graves began to be dug near the dungeon that had been totally sealed. Among the hundreds of dead I could see Oscar, my companion who was covering his face. He had his eyes open and his hand on his chest. I was a bit confused, I felt guilty and selfish.
I felt guilty and selfish. I didn't feel good, and as much as I wanted to leave, I made a decision. I would participate in this experiment. That was the only thing I could do in memory of all the adventurers who had died. For a moment I forgot my revenge and wanted to do something else for my life.
I returned to the guild shortly after everything I saw, I was quite sad and arrived with my face down. It was a bit irritating to go back there. I saw many people just like me, no one could explain what had happened in the halls of that place. Suddenly I saw Alfred sitting at a table, but I didn't talk to him. I preferred to go to the head of the guild. That man was talking to other people at a table. When he saw me, he looked at me and concluded that I had agreed to participate in this experiment. He immediately stood up and made several gestures to get everything ready.I knew it would hurt a little whatever they did to me, but I wanted to help avenge the death of all those people. Several elves took me to a remote and quite lonely place. It looked like a training camp, as there were bows and marked areas. We were about a kilometer away from the houses and buildings of the city, so we would avoid anyone getting hurt by this, however I did not like what I saw, but I volunteered for t
As Alfred had told me, I could not go out and had to remain guarded, usually in chains. My hands were a little green. In that lonely room. I could only look out of the window and see the movement of the city. The day after the caravan with dozens of adventurers arrived, I reached it. Unfortunately for me, I had to stay away from everyone and only go out to train, when I was given the order. In addition, I had to take enough distance from everyone. The guild was in charge of the place where I stayed and the food since I participated in their experiment. But for me it was as if I was in a prison practically. I came to think that they were wrong for believing that I would fall back into that spell, so I left that room without anyone seeing me, took off the chains they had put on me and saw the area where I had to train. I was very bored of being locked up and not knowing what was going on.As I was leaving, most of the people I met along the way, only considered me as just another adven
The old man and I left that city at night. Our carriage was the last one to leave the city at that time. We had to get out of there as quickly as possible, and avoid diplomatic problems between those two countries. Now everything was dark and the only light was the four oil candles in the carriage. It was very cold at that hour, I was only wearing a shirt and a pair of tights given to me by the guild. I felt a little uncomfortable in that. The little I could see was that the road looked rough, too much brush everywhere and huge rocks everywhere. The horses were somewhat upset by the difficulty they were facing. I just lay down on one of the benches and started to fall asleep. I knew that if any creature could attack us, but the old man from what I heard had been a general or something like that. So I was calmer thanks to him.[...]I woke up hours later, there was still a long way to go to reach that city, but I noticed that I was in a rural area. There I could see crops of different
We returned to the small restaurant where the guild was located. To our surprise there were dozens of adventurers, apparently they had arrived at dawn. The old man was a bit uneasy about this situation, so we walked among them all until he saw the receptionist. The little hobbit looked a little tired, perhaps from having to give information to so many people every five minutes. I wasn't sure if he was the only one in charge of this.He was sitting at a table just jotting some things down in a book.-Hi...hello...-Hello... adventurers...-We came to talk to you, we managed to count the dragons, there are fourteen, thirteen hatchlings and the mother.-Mmmm, I see, thank you. I'll keep that in mind when more adventurers come.-And how many have come?-Hundreds of them, and it hasn't even been half a day.-I see, then the mission will begin in a matter of days... and the guild leader.-He will come tomorrow, and a part of the village will be evacuated. Other adventurers gave reports of
It was like a nightmare, a part of the harvest was burning. Many adventurers were running aimlessly. I went to the place where I was staying to get my sword and some armor that the old man had brought. I ran into several people who, like me, did not know what to do in the middle of the fire.I did not see the old man anywhere and I began to despair a little. There was a lot of chaos and the smell of smoke reached here. It was imminent that in a matter of minutes the flames would reach this place, the more I walked, the more scared I became. I didn't know if I would face one of the dragons, nor how strong the little ones were. [...]Luckily I drew my sword quickly and put on full armor. I headed for the grasslands where the battle was taking place. There were many heroes around that place and the elves began to use their magic to extinguish the flames that were consuming everything. One of them out of nowhere cast an ice spell and luckily the fire could be controlled, but we were not
I was running with several adventurers in the middle of a battle against dragons. I felt happy because I felt it was my moment, but it was not. My happy face was gone in a moment. There were nine of us running with a lot of confidence that we could do something. In front of us the adventurers we were going to help, died in front of our eyes. Almost simultaneously five of the eight dragons that were around spat fire at them from different places. We could do nothing for them. It was too late.I was a bit shocked and stopped in my tracks. The other adventurers were still running as if nothing. As if something else inspired them to endanger their lives, even though there was no hope that we could win.The smell of burning grass became too intense and annoying.I stood and watched as the eight adventurers reached those beasts and started fighting like it was nothing. They were very sure of what they were doing, and obviously they were right, those swords were not normal. From one moment
The next morning I went to talk to the little hobbit to see if they would give me a reward or something like that, plus I had to fix my face a bit and change my appearance so that no one would recognize me again. As I walked in the direction of that place. I noticed that the beard I had was growing a little, but I needed it more. In a week I would be quite noticeable, but I had to change enough to go unnoticed, luckily for me the wizard's spell no longer worked on me. Now I was no longer a danger to anyone, and I was free to go on any mission.I saw many people arriving from different cities, by the way they were dressed, perhaps to take the remains of their relatives or to say goodbye to them. I was carrying the handkerchief in my hand. So everyone noticed it, such complexion they all knew what it was for, but many looked at me because of that. In the middle of the people I decided to keep it in one of my pockets and avoid being robbed or asked about it.[...]I arrived at the resta
Shortly after that I got out of there, without the help of the helmet. I had to pay about fifty coins that I had received on the mission for the change in the face. It was worth a try and live an adventurer's life without so much trouble.I headed to the guild to ask about the old man. Maybe there they knew where his body was, I had to carry the helmet in my hand and see if anyone recognized me, besides I did not want to wear it I felt it was in the way a little, but as I walked I saw a lot of movement of military and soldiers of this city. They talk to the merchants and fruit sellers. Most of them were humans, only a few dwarves were selling accessories. The last time I was here something like this had not happened, despite that I walked to my destination and preferred not to waste time on other things. The soldiers now wore their metallic armor with a red cloak, which also had their emblem of some swords. They were all imposing order with their weapons.[...]I arrived in a few minu
