Finally, we had arrived as the treasure chest had been opened up. I could yet see the light again and I hope that I wouldn't be in the dark anymore. It's just that after being so long in the dark, I feel sick of it.
"So do you think you could sell all of this item at a high price?"
"Let me check all of the items first. There might be something that has no value at all…"
That last person talking might be a merchant who wanted to see how all the treasure chest items are worth. I'm sure that the merchant would notice me and I would finally continue my dream.
A giant hand began to take an item inside the treasure chest as I heard all of the things were quite valuables and could be sold at such a high price in the market.
There were a lot of things in the treasure chest. At first, I thought the merchant wouldn't see me because there was a lot of other stuff. But a few minutes later, it was somewhat weird as the merchant didn't notice me at all, the items in the treasure chest weren't that many anymore.
Surely he wouldn't have missed me, how could someone miss me, a little body inside the treasure chest. The moment I thought that the merchant finally took me and began to inspect me thoroughly.
The moment I was being lifted, I finally could see my surroundings. The town does change a lot this past year as it almost like this was a whole new town. There wasn't a place that I recognised anymore.
I could see the merchant's face clearly and the two people who found the treasure chest but they didn't look surprised at all like I thought they would be. Shouldn't they all be amazed as they're looking at a tiny body.
"This item is pretty much useless, it's made out of wood and I think it is not worth even one copper coin for it."
Wait a minute, an item? Does the merchant mean me or some other stuff but it couldn't be another item. I was the only one in his hand right now and that means it must be me… I was confused about this situation right now.
"Really? Don't you think that it might be a magic ring like that despite it's made of wood… there's no way that this ring was not worth anything, why would it be in the treasure chest with all of the other valuable stuff."
"I am really sorry, but it was a very poorly made ring and I doubt that it was a magic ring before. It must be a ring that was made just for kids."
I doubt that they were really talking about me; there's no way that I had become a ring. I could still think and see just like a human does and I can't be a wooden ring.
"The merchant is right, brother. I do not believe that this wooden ring is a magic ring at all. All of the magic rings were made out of steel and had an enchanted gem on it."
That man then took me from the merchant's hand and said, "So this wooden ring is basically useless then, so I should just throw it away cause it doesn't give us the coin for all the trouble we get in the dungeon."
"It's your choice brother, besides I wouldn't care less as it doesn't even have any value at all."
I was totally confused about this situation right now. While I was still thinking about all of it, I realized that I was about to be thrown by that man that holds me.
I tried my best to stop him but because my voice wouldn't come out. I was thrown quite far as I felt like I was flying for a moment, which wasn't the best feeling.
After a few minutes, I finally landed on the ground as I landed near a puddle of water. I expected to hear my bones crack but I didn't feel anything at all. It was a rather weird feeling.
Why would they throw me? They're also talking nonsense that saying I was a wooden ring was clearly a human but just had been shrunk.
I then look at the reflection in the water. I was in a massive shock after seeing it. I had indeed become a ring!
How did this happen? How do I end up as a ring… This all doesn't make sense at all, even though it has been years since that explosion happened.
My memory of that incident is still as fresh as ever before. When I successfully went through the portal, a massive explosion happened and it knocked me out of the portal. That was all that happened to me.
While I was still in a deep thought right now in this current situation, I heard some footsteps indicating someone coming towards me. I still doubted that I am a ring.
The sound of the footsteps was coming from a girl with blonde hair. The girl didn't notice me at all as she just stepped on me. With that, I can somehow confirm that I might have become an object.
If I was still a human, there's no way that anyone could do something like that. I don't know how I became a ring.
"Ah! Did I step on something?" The blonde hair girl said as she lifted his left leg.
The blonde hair girl looks on the ground and finally notices me. She does pick me up to see the stuff she steps on.
"A wooden ring?"
She also said that I am a wooden ring that proves that I am indeed a ring. She looks closely at me as she then looks around before putting me on her ring finger.
I couldn't figure out why I had become a ring but there's no way that I wanted to remain with this form forever. There must be some explanation behind all of this and a way to get my body back.
"I hope there is a gallant knight that would propose to a farm girl like myself." The blonde hair girl said as she was touching me.
"Your possibility of getting a knight is quite high judging by your looks alone…" I said that in my mind as I couldn't talk anymore.
The girl then looks around as she seems to have heard something. After realizing that there's no one around, she then said. "Am I starting to hear things? I probably should get some rest."
Wait a minute. Does that mean this girl can hear me? How can that be possible as I tried to speak before but the word couldn't come out? I just replied to her in my mind, how could she hear that unless.
The blonde-haired girl was just about to take me off as I immediately said stop. The girl was surprised to hear the sound again. She thought it was nothing as there was no one around here at this moment.
"Am I that tired until I start to hear things, I really should head back and get some sleep."
She then resumes to take me off her finger. I realized that the reason why she could hear me was that she was wearing me. If she removes me, I know that she wouldn't be able to listen to me anymore.
It would be a problem as I needed some help.
"Stop! You do not hear things at all. I'm the one who talks to you right now." I said, "Please do not remove me as I need to talk with you."
She keeps looking around to confirm whether there were no people around here. "Are you the one talking with me, ring?" The blonde girl looked at me.
"Yes, I'm the one that talks with you…"
Before I could say any further, the girl looked scared as she wanted to take me off her finger. Surprisingly, no matter how hard she tried. She could not remove me from her finger at all.
She closed her eyes as I could see that she was in fear right now. "I should not have picked it up, this must be a cursed ring or something…" The girl then started to cry.
I don't know why I couldn't come off her finger. I somehow felt guilty about this. I know that it wasn't my fault, but still, I should have made her scared like that. I never felt this feeling again since I left my hometown to pursue my dream.
I should have introduced myself as I might sound like a cursed item, I guess I had to apologize to her.
"Don't be scared. I am not a cursed ring at all… I'm sorry to make you afraid but know that I didn't mean to do it."
She still hasn't calmed down yet. The only choice I had now was to wait. There's no point talking with her in this situation.
I have to wait almost half an hour for her to calm herself down finally. At that time, I repeatedly tell her that I'm not a cursed ring and she shouldn't be a scare at all."Are you okay?" I asked the girl as there were still some tears left."I'm okay but are you really not a cursed ring at all?""You could rest assured that I am not that sort of ring, I understand why you felt that way but again I am telling you that I simply a wooden ring."I could tell that within the girl's eyes that she still doubted me. Right now, she had no choice to trust me as she couldn't take me off her finger."So why can't I remove the ring? If you aren't a cursed ring, it would easily be taken off just like a normal ring would do…""Unfortunately, I also don't know why." I said, "But don't need to worry as I am a talented mage. I would think of a way for you to remove me finally!""A talented mage? How could a wooden ring be a mage… It doesn't make any sense as you don't even have a body." The girl said
People in this village don't have the required tools to start a farm, even though we have large fields it is pretty useless for us if we don't have those things.Until Madam Nia came to this village and started to help us, she provided the tools and all of the seeds in exchange that all of the crops that had been harvested must be sent to her.Of course, when the elder of the village hears about this. They immediately disagree as it's like the whole village was simply a slave. The villagers demand that they keep the crops for themself as this was our land.Madam Nia simply told all of the villagers that she wouldn't get any benefit by helping us. The main reason she came to this village was to gain more money. Our village doesn't belong to any aristocrats so it will be easy for her to become this place owner."Wait there is something that I wanted to ask, Is Madam Nia, an aristocrat?""Yes, Madam Nia does come from a pretty well-known family in the kingdom and because of that it makes
The silence remained until we all had reached Liora house. I don't know why, but I feel that the man would do something terrible all of the time. It might be because he was wearing a mask and didn't want to talk that much. Not to mention the weird magical aura that comes from this guy. Maybe because I had become a ring that my magic sense was all messed up right now or it could just be this world had a different magical aura from a human in my world.Still, I found it a bit surprising that Liora just had a faint magical aura when I first met her. I could hardly notice it but it doesn't matter that much as she wouldn't become a mage after all."Thank you. You could put down the cask already as we're already in front of my cabin," Liora says.I do notice that Liora was kind of living far from the rest of the village. There are only a few cabins around her home."It's better for me to carry it all the way inside your home." That man replied. Were people in this world this kind? I know th
The vampire slowly opens the doors. It was indeed a lady holding a baby in her arms. The lady was a bit surprised that she saw a man opening that door. She must have expected that Liora would open it.When the door was open, Liora shouts as loud as she could tell the lady to run away from this place. The lady immediately notices Liora was on the floor and starts to question the vampire instead of running."Who're you, young man… What're you doing inside Liora house and why is Liora on the floor?" The lady said that. The vampire didn't reply at all as he showed his bloodthirsty expression towards the lady. The moment he does that, I could sense that this vampire was using another spell. I know pretty well about it as I always do it when I am in a challenging situation to get some items. The spell that he was using was none other than a charm spell, reading the magical energy that the vampire used on that spell. I guess it was one of the basic ones. It would not be that effective agains
Even with the vast magical energy that Liora had at this moment, it would be a waste if she keeps doing the light orb spell. It doesn't even hit the vampire even once and I know that Liora needed to learn a new kind of spell to kill this vampire."Liora stops wasting magical energy like that. I know that you're angry but try to control the anger," I say as she didn't seem to listen to me.Liora kept casting the light orb spell as the vampire slowly advanced towards her."Hahaha! I assume you're a novice mage… you couldn't cast any other spell and it took you quite a long time to cast one." The vampire says as both of his hands had transformed into a sharp blade and if that hit Liora, I am sure that she would die instantly. When I took a closer look at that sharp blade, I noticed that there's some spell that had been cast on it. If I was not mistaken, I think the spell was called Decaying Blood.I don't use that kind of spell but I do have experienced its effect before. When I was in a
"There's no need for you to feel guilty at all. You didn't even know that the man was a vampire," I say that to comfort Liora. "You should be proud of yourself as you did manage to kill the vampire…""Proud? There's nothing to be proud of." Liora says as tears keep falling, "I am the causes of their death! I was the one that did that… I-I-I""Listen here, Liora. You aren't the one at fault here. The blame should be on me. I let my guard down even though I did notice that the man's magical aura was different." I say that Liora shouldn't pin all of the guilt on her alone. I was as responsible as she was in causing this death. It's tough for me to convince Liora that she wasn't the one to blame in this matter. Even if she had known it earlier, there's nothing Liora could do. Liora was lucky as she had my magical energy to use and also she was able to cast the greater fireball. If not, Liora would surely die by the vampire's hand and this whole village would be slaughtered. Thank god that
From afar, I could hear a scream coming from the mansion. It was pretty loud as I think they're all shouting for help. Liora was still unconscious and it seems there's no way she would wake any time now.Somehow I feel glad that Liora was unconscious right now. Suppose she did manage to make it to the mansion and face of the vampires there. Liora wouldn't be able to survive as she would be dead in a matter of seconds.I don't know what's gotten into me but it's almost like I don't care about everyone else in this world except Liora. Liora does look similar to her; her eyes and hair… all of it looks the same. The more I look at Liora. There's a strange sensation that I felt in my heart right now. It's almost like I had felt this before. It was when I met the same girl as Liora in Aeqelar back. What was this feeling? I found it weird and it had happened to me before. Still, I can describe what I was feeling. Was it guilt? Was it really guilt… I wonder if that was really what I feel rig
This is what people always do when the blame is on them. They would put it on others just to lighten up their guilt that has placed in their heart at the moment. I think this is what Liora is doing right now. But Liora wasn't at fault at all and there's no reason for her to bear the guilt. The one to blame for this destruction was the vampires and Madam Nia. She was the one that invited the vampires into this village in the first place. If Madam Nia doesn't invite them, all of this would never happen and this village might still exist as it used to. Still, there's no use for me to tell Liora that as she would definitely reject it at all. She will just keep blaming herself or me. The best thing I could do right now was to explain that I didn't put any spell on her that made her faint at that time. "Liora… I don't put any spell on you at all. It was all an effect of you casting the advanced spell and the amount of magical energy that you received from me." I say that as I hope she wi
The man also added: "Also, it's best to stay inside until dawn. Otherwise you might attract predators lurking outside."At that point, Liora thanked him and proceeded to walk away from his directions. Once she left, he gave me a friendly wave and continued walking. It leaves us pondering what predators does man mention about, as the village seems to be rather secure with a few guards walking down the area. We wanted to ask more but the man had already gone…Even if we're a bit confused, Liora decided to follow the man's advice as she doesn't want to get into trouble. Which I agree as well, because I do not think that Liora is in a condition to fight as she barely knows any spells. As she only could cast a fireball and a healing spell, with a fairly limited amount as well due to her mana reserve being small.Plus restocking our supplies is the primary goal here… as Liora needs the extra food and water to continue her training of learning magics.…As we reached the market, the place wa
It's been a few weeks already and it seems like Liora has grasped a few basic fundamentals of casting a spell. She's still not able to cast anything too complicated, but she can at least use the simple spells that are common in most schools of magic—like healing or fireballs. While training her, I do notice that her healing and fire affinity seems to be much stronger than my own. It doesn't seem as if she is using any specific rituals for these abilities though; just standard magical practice should suffice? That might explain why she was so much more powerful the first she casted the fireballs spell at that vampire. And I have no doubt there will come a day when we'll be fighting for our lives, she will be able to protect herself and others around her. So far though, all this practice was also helping me get used to how different it feels from using magic as a Ring; even if you know what you're doing, your body doesn't always react accordingly because it's accustomed to something e
After a while, Liora finally found a place that was good enough for her to start practicing magic. The area was pretty vast and there's nothing that will happen even if Liora messed up some spell. It's better than the previous place that Liora suggested which was near the forest. There's no way I wanted Liora to practice magic there. It was not safe as there was a monster in the forest and what would happen if she failed to control the spell. As I was thinking of teaching her a fire-based spell. If Liora messed up, the whole forest might be consumed by fire and I don't want that to happen. This place was the perfect spot as there's nothing that will burnable things and it's close to a river. There's no nearby village of any sort and I think there's no dangerous monster around here.Even if there's a monster, it will be easily spotted as there's nothing that will obstruct our view. That also makes us quite visible as well but I think Liora could handle some low-level monster pretty fin
"My village has been destroyed by vampires…"As the woman hears that, she looks surprised. "What! Vampires… I thought that creatures wouldn't do that as they hate to gain attention.""So you do not believe them… just like the guards.""It's kinda hard to believe what you're saying, Liora." The woman then puts her hand on Liora's shoulder as she continues to say, "But I trust you, you're not that kind of a girl that would tell lies...""Thank you… I am here to quit my job. I have to pursue the vampire and kill it for the sake of my village.""That I cannot do, you would be killed! Let the guards handle this problem…""The guards wouldn't do anything! I already told them and they all just laughed at me and said it wasn't real." Liora said that."Then, I would go there personally and smack the guards until they listen to you.""No need to do that. I already made up my mind as I would be the one to kill the vampires," Liora said with full determination."You would just die! You're powerle
Seeing that the captain also behaves like this. Liora didn't have much choice but to leave the barrack. Well, I would do the same thing as well. Guards in this town don't even seem to care at all."So, what's now? Straight to training…""No, I have some other things to do first. I wanted to quit my job at the tavern and then we would go to train.""Quit your jobs! Why?" I say that as Liora needed the gold to survive, if she quit her job, that would mean she wouldn't have any gold. Liora's cabin was burned down and all of her valuable stuff was gone, including gold."You asking why? So that I can dedicate myself to training and hunt the vampires down… If the guards don't want to help, I would be the one who was going to do it.""But how're you going to survive? Do you have enough gold left?""It's not much but I think I will manage it. Unless you also had to eat and drink like me, Arvon.""Okay, it's up to you then but there's still a problem… Which is where you're going to stay from n
Liora left the mansion as there's nothing left there. The only thing we could find was the sapphire brooch. I did ask Liora whether she would sell the brooch for some gold. She answered that she wanted to keep the sapphire brooch for herself. It's for her to remind her of what had happened in this village. A keepsake item that Liora wanted to hold on with her.If that was what Liora chose to do, I guess I had no rights to ask her to sell. Besides, the sapphire brooch does have a sentimental value of its own, so I think it's better this way."Okay, what's next? Do you want to start your training right now…" I asked Liora that as she does need to train to become a mage."Let's hold the training first. We must report this to the town. The people in the town need to be aware that there's a vampire around the area. I do not want anyone to die again." Liora said that."You're right, Liora, we should tell the authority about the vampire."Our next destination was the town that was not far fr
