A light at the end of the tunnel

Robert Adams, a 25-year-old young man, was sitting in a chair while holding a letter from his lawyer, while he looked at her in silence, tears fell from his eyes, staining the page.

However, it was at that moment that the door of her room opened and a little girl ran in with a drawing in her hand, the girl ignoring the strange state of mind of her father hugged his leg.

"Dad!!, look at my drawing that I just made."

The man wiped the tears from his face and after taking a deep breath showed a huge smile and carried his daughter before seeing the beautiful drawing of her daughter, where she could see the two of them in a small park.

"It's a beautiful drawing Lisa, but you already finished your homework. The teacher told me that you hadn't been paying much attention in your classes?" the man said as he stroked his daughter's hair.

Lisa who was enjoying her father's affection hugged him and closed her eyes "I already did my homework.

But... it's hard for me to keep my attention because I think about mom." Lisa raised her face and with tears in her eyes looked at her father.

"Why did mom abandon us dad, is it because she didn't care about us or why did she leave us alone…I knew you two were fighting but why did she abandon me too…dad why isn't mom with us…" Lisa couldn't hold back her tears so the man hugged her while caressing her back.

"Lisa, your mom left us because she thought we weren't enough for her, I don't expect you to understand but she chose her career over her family.

We can't blame her for her decision but I can promise you that I will never abandon you. Besides, life in this new city is much calmer than our old life in New York.

Not to mention that we have a beautiful view of the forest from the apartment window."

Lisa, who was crying, snuggled into her father's chest "But I miss mom... dad... do you think we'll ever see her again?"

The man who was holding back the urge to cry from her showed a fake smile. "I'm sure maybe at some point she will come to see us, but it will all depend on her."

After this, father and daughter hugged for a while before the noise of an alarm could be heard, so the man sighed before laying his daughter on the bed while he put on a jacket because it was time for his second shift as food deliveryman.

Leaving his apartment, he locked the door and went down the old stairs of the building until he reached the entrance where once he left he felt the cold night air, enduring the cold he went to the parking lot where he looked at his old motorcycle.

When he got on it, he put on his helmet and began to drive downtown Chicago to the Mexican food place where he worked, while he was driving he was not paying attention to his surroundings.

Well, he kept thinking about the letter he had received from the law firm that his ex-wife had contracted, where the divorce with her was finalized, and it was explained that he could keep custody of Lisa while she stayed with the house in new jersey and the rest of the assets.

All this had been an agreement that they had reached after a trial that lasted months and seriously affected his finances.

While he was focused on his thoughts, he did not realize that the traffic light had turned red, so when crossing the avenue a truck that was advancing could not stop in time, throwing the man down the street.

The man who was looking at the starless sky of Chicago could only have as his last thought his daughter to whom he had promised that she would not leave him alone.

"Sorry Lisa, but I think dad has failed you…"

It was the last thing he could say before his consciousness turned black, however it was at that precise moment that a noise could be heard.

At that moment Robert woke up abruptly while he was sweating, without wasting time he checked his body and realized that he was in perfect condition.

This brought him peace of mind, so he took his phone and when he checked it he realized that it was 8 in the morning on Saturday, for which he frowned because the nightmare he had was too realistic.

However, before he could do anything he felt a slight pain in his head that made him close his eyes, it was at that moment that he could see the menu of what seemed to be a game.

...Welcome Host 981d7 (Robert Adams) to the Technological Advancement System...

…Missions…

…Starter Pack…

…Store…

…Inventory…

Quite curiously he looked at the 4 options before selecting the Starter Pack with his mind, at which point the information about building an aluminum battery with salt crystals entered his mind.

He was able to see the plans and the technical information necessary to be able to patent the battery that was 100% more efficient than lithium batteries and without the danger of exploding with the advantage of being able to retain electricity for 2 full years without having electricity losses.

However if that was surprising to him, the fact that he knew that his bank account had received $50,000 tax-free only made him smile.

Although perhaps the most valuable thing he received was the fact that he understood what the technological advancement system was and what he was expected to do in order to create a technological empire with which to take humanity to a new step.
