Chapter 2: Endangered.

When Stan Gibson finally recognized himself again, he was in a desolate building, looking very old with most of its walls destroyed which anyone would clearly know was as a result of violence. But all the same, despite the look of the place, that was the best place he could stay for a moment.

His wounds had been treated though not professionally, but at least whoever was responsible did a wonderful job and needed to be acknowledged. With the remembrance of his attack earlier, he believed someone brought him there and whoever it was should be around.

“Hello…” he called out as he got to his feet to take a look around the place and find the good Samaritan that had helped him.

[Quiet.]

He heard in response to his call then he turned around to find the person that had said the word.

[I’m in your head you moron.]

He was shocked when he heard this. It was very impossible for him to believe such. so he froze for a minute trying to have a rethink on whether he heard correctly.

[Stan Gibson, born on the 17th of August, 2203. Both parents, Merle and Welch died in a car accident on the 7th of December, 2219 and since then you have ...]

While he paused to see if he would hear any such words again, then came the voice the second time in his head, revealing vital details about himself, mostly those which he never revealed to anyone so he immediately shot it out. "That's enough!"

He hates remembering the day he was born and also the day his parents died. He was amazed that the information was known by it so he asked. “What are you? and how did you come to know so much about me?”

[You can call me Adoth, and I have chosen you to save the world from what is coming.]

“What is coming?” Stan asked himself, before referring to Adoth. “You didn’t answer my question. What are you? How did you know about me? And what is coming?” he insisted on this question because he knew it wasn’t a human being and he had no information about anything that could dwell in a human’s head as it claimed.

[Can we skip some of these questions for now?]

He thought about it for a second, before giving it a response. “You will have to tell me what is coming so I will be able to know what I am saving the world from.” He stuck to that because it really caught his heart. Hearing that he could tell that it was something more than his initial plan of telling the poor masses about the secret he discovered about the rich. It was more than bringing equity amongst the people and forcing the rich to share what they have with the poor.

[You are simply saving earth from destruction. They have destroyed so many planets and earth is their next target.]

From the sound of that, Stan could tell that it spoke of some kind of army or thereabout so he deemed himself not worthy of what it had chosen him for. “I’m sorry to say this but you have chosen the wrong person. I could not stand against three men, more to stand against this army or whatever you speak of. I think the best thing is to tell this to one of those rich bastards whose implant has augmented his or her entire attribute more especially strength.”

[You do not need a chip to save the world. Their technology is far advanced than any of the things you humans claim to have. I wouldn’t have chosen you if you are not capable of the task ahead.]

“My answer remains no. I have other things to focus on.” Stan still refused to understand what Adoth was saying in his head.

He sets out to leave the building and recover his items more especially the picture of his parents as that was the only thing he had left of them. He believed it was still at the place where he was attacked by the men.

[Someone is coming.]

“And how is that any of my business?” he replied as he continued to the exit feeling less concerned. This was because he thought whoever was coming was the person that had brought and treated him there. So he would simply thank the person and get on his way.

Just before he opened the door, its handle was turned first so he waited for the person to come in while he maintained a position at the door post.

“Trisha!” He exclaimed in shock as he saw the person that had opened the door.

Trisha was one of the students in the school which he had run away from. She was among the best and was loved by everybody, which is because of her ability to connect with them. She was a big time extrovert, never shy for any reason and most of all, she was beautiful.

“What are you doing here?” he added as snapped out of his surprise in less than a minute.

“Shhhh…” she demonstrates, shutting the door behind them. She then drags him by the hand away from the door.

“What is going on? Why are you outside the school?”

“I’m here because of you.”

“Me!”

“Yes. You idiot.”

Stan’s mouth was opened as he thought this was a dream. A lot started going through his mind as to why Trisha was out there because of him. He could not remember talking to her for days, nor did she ever come close to him irrespective of the fact that she talks to everyone in the school and that was not a problem to him as he was used to being neglected as though he does not exist.

“Your life is in danger and I am here to warn you.” she said after noticing that a lot of thoughts were flying through his mind.

That warning took his mind back to the words which one of those men said; ‘he is one of them’ and this drew his attention to know why his life was at risk. Trisha had already turned around to leave when he said. “Wait…. Who is after me? And why?”

She halted as he requested, turned to him and her face showed that she was quite surprised about the question he was asking. But all the same, since she had come to warn him, it was important that she also tells him what he needs to know.

“I thought you were smart, I just realized that you are much dumber than they say you are.” She began by insulting him first, “Do you think they were going to let you leave the school knowing that you have discovered our secret?”

He understood what she was saying this time and why they were coming after him, but he also realized that that was not the reason why those men had tried killing him. He understood that there were other reasons. Thus it was very obvious to him that his life was really in danger.

“One more question. Why did you choose to warn me against the plan of your friends?” he asked because it was very unlikely of her.

[Gibson, you have minutes to exit this premises.]

Instantly he obeyed the voice of Adoth with good reasons. He did not even wait for Trisha to answer the last question which he asked again. He took the back exit in haste knowing that those who were coming would definitely come through the front.
