Gerald was having his usual evening tea when his daughter sauntered into the house looking dejected, the moment he saw her angry face he immediately dropped his tea.

His family was one thing he never played with, he loved his daughter and his wife so much and was ready to give them the word, even his son was not left out. Everything he did was for them.

“What happened princess?” He asked after she came to sit beside him, “why do you look so upset”

Clarrisa sighed as she placed her head on his shoulder, “apparently Alex doesn’t remember anything about us dad, he has been behaving weird, I even tried making his favorite dish but he says he doesn’t like any of the dishes I made” she had a pout on her lips while talking, “I feel like I am going crazy dad”

Gerald gave her a little smile, “you know how Alex is my darling” his voice was authoritative, “this is not a different Alex from the Alex we know. Remember he didn’t even want you coming near him at the beginning, you shouldn’t be bothered okay? I will talk to him”

“Thank you daddy” Clarissa’s face finally broke into a smile, “I will have a shower and go to bed, I have an early start tomorrow”

She kissed him goodnight before making her way upstairs while the smile on Gerald’s face disappeared and he picked up his phone.

After two rings, the person from the other end answered.

“Hello” Alex’s voice filtered into his ears.

“I hear that you can not remember anything” the words rolled out of his mouth, “your fiancée came home crying”

The man from the other end sighed, “who are you to be calling me?”His voice sounded so irritated.

Gerald gave an awkward smile, “why don’t we have a cup of tea tomorrow, i will come over to your office”

Alexander Chase was someone he couldn’t afford to offend, he was the number one businessman in the country and all aspects of the economy was in his hands. Gerald knew for how long he worked hard to be able to get Alex to agree to marry his daughter, nothing was going to jeopardize his plans. Even if he was rich, he wanted to be richer. He wanted to command the kind of power twenty seven year old Alexander Chase commanded.

“Very well then”

After talking, the man from the other end disconnected the call. He wasn’t in the mood to have a chit chat with his supposed father in law to be.

*****

Alex flung the phone on the bed when he was done with the call while his doctor was sitting opposite him with pursed lips.

Doctor Aiden also didn’t know what to do, Alex was in front of him but he was claiming he wasn’t Alex. He could do things that Alex could do but he still wasn’t Alex, was there a more bizarre story than this?

“How do you expect me to believe anything you are saying man? Aiden asked, “I mean you have been taking your medications and this has not happened in a long while. Let’s just say for years and now you suddenly don’t remember yourself?”

What he said piqued Alex’s interest and he sat up straight,

“This is a common occurrence?”

“When your parents died” Aiden shrugged, “yes, your brain did that as a kind of defense mechanism against the trauma”

“When did my parents die?”

“When you were fifteen Alex, they died in a plane crash”

“When I was fifteen?” The words rolled out of his mouth.

That means his parents died when they were both the same age but why was he suddenly in his body now?

Suddenly Alex sprang up from his bed and picked up his car keys.

“Where are you going?”

“To find answers” he answered and sauntered out of the room.

There was only one way he could find out what happened.

Esmeralda was surprised to see him rush downstairs all dressed up and he had his car keys with him. Jayden knew he didn’t know how to drive but maybe this Alex guy could.

“I just need to clear my air” he answered and walked out of the house.

His mouth opened in awe when he saw how many cats were gracing this man’s garage. More than fifteen cars and they all looked new.

“You are a lover of cars” Aiden’s voice sounded behind him, “these are your new collections”

“Hmm” he nodded and walked towards the low profile white Bentley, “are you coming?”

“Sure, I am your doctor by the way”

And just like Jayden thought, Alex was a good driver.

The city looked different from what he knew ten years ago, it was more sophisticated and everything looked more efficient.

“A lot has changed”

The man beside him smiled, “where are we going by the way?”

“Wait and see”

After a while, the car came to a halt in a familiar neighborhood and there it was. His fathers three story building stood tall and mighty as usual.

“You wanted to come here?”Aiden looked over at the house while asking, “why?”

Alex didn’t say anything and walked over to the gate of the house. Everything was still the same and even the gate. This was the house where he grew up in, the house in which his family was murdered. The house in which Gerald cut ties with them by killing everyone that mattered most to him.

“Who lives in this house now?” He turned to Aiden as he asked.

“This house was sold at an auction eight years ago, Gerald was the one who sold it”

At the mention of Gerald, Alex’s countenance changed. Not only did he kill his family, he had the right to even sell the house? The audacity of him.

“Who did he sell it to and why?”

Now Aiden was also very curious, why was Alex suddenly interested in the baxter? They all died ten long years ago and he was trying to find out information about them now?

“Apparently Baxter willed all his property to his best friend so Gerald did what he wanted to do with the property. He opened a charity home with the money from this property”

Alex balled his hand into a fist, this Gerald was more sly than he thought.

“What killed them”

“Hey man” Aiden was already frustrated, “won’t you tell me what’s going on? I am your doctor not a real estate agent”

“Say something man” Alex hissed.

“They all died in a car crash on Christmas Eve ten year ago”

Wow, not only did Gerald steal everything from them he even lied about their death? How low could he stoop?

Alex looked over at the house again and a feeling of nostalgia flashed through him, even if he didn't spend a lot of time with his family he loved them immensely.

He didn’t know how deep he had sunk in his thoughts until he felt a hand on his shoulder.

“What is actually going on, Alex?”

“A lot more than you can comprehend doctor” the big guy answered while looking at the house again then on impulse he knocked on the gate.

“What are you doing?”

“I want to talk to the owner of the house” he answered fearlessly and knocked again.

After a while the gates opened and a man in his early fifties walked out of the gate. He wasn’t sure why two men were standing in front of his gate.

“Hello sir”

“If it isn’t Alexander Chase standing in front of my gate, what do I owe this August visit?” The man sounded friendly and Alex relaxed.

“Sorry to bother you at such an awkward time but i just need to talk to you about the house”

“What about?I purchased this house at an auction eight years ago”

“I know that Mr?”

“Call me Elias”

“Mr Elias, what happened to all the properties in the house? Like the furnitures maybe documents and others”

Elias exchanges glances with Aiden before turning to Alex again,

“The house was empty when we moved in, there was nothing”

“That bastard” Alex hissed silently, “thank you so much for your help sir”

After exchanging pleasantries, Elias went back into the gate while Alex turned to Aiden.

“Won’t you say something? What are you thinking? You have known about all of this for years and now you are suddenly taking interest in this family?”

Alex raked his hand into his already scattered hair, how could he tell Aiden that he was Jayden the son of this family and he somehow magically transferred into Alexander chase, even a madman won’t believe him.

“Say something man?”

“I am just interested in the property that’s all”

The doctor sighed, “well, it has been sold”

“How can I get to this Gerald?”

Now Aiden’s mouth opened in amazement, was Alex really asking him that right now?

“Did you really lose your mind?”

“What?”

“Gerald is your father in law to be man” he dropped the bombshell and Alex froze.
