Stop the Act!

Tony looked at him with drunken eyes, but he wasn’t all that drunk, he could still discern reality from being drunk.

“What if I am?” Tony responded, asking his own question instead of answering the man.

The unknown man withdrew his hands and shovelled them into his pockets, he heaved a small sigh and glanced around the small apartment with a kind of proud smile on his face.

“I know what’s going on in your life, Tony.” He said, his words travelling slowly to Tony’s ears.

“Whoever you’re, you should leave. I’m not in the mood for this,” Tony said reluctantly, turning and starting for the doorway, just when he was about committing suicide, a strange man who knew him was at his doorstep claiming he knew all what was going on in his life. It sounded absurd and ridiculous.

The man would just be one of those who knew him when he still had his business, he had bumped into a few and it was more embarrassing than what was happening now.

Tony was almost at his door when he heard the man’s voice again, this time, he felt his chest tighten.

“You can be a rich man soon, if you listen to what I’ve to say,” the stranger stood metres away from his doorstep, hand shoved inside his pocket while the two guards stood behind him.

“If you want to know more, I’ll be waiting for you in my car,” he concluded and walked briskly back to the Cadillac that was parked in front of the duplex.

Tony turned around slowly, he was so surprised at this sudden event that was happening. Who was this man? And how could he speak so confidently about making someone rich? Maybe it was the vodka? Tony thought, but he wasn’t drunk.

Lilian just left him not quite long and now this, it was looking too good to be true. He had no relatives, far or near. How would a stranger make him rich just like that? The thought kept dancing around Tony’s head, making him want to hear more.

He was curious.

Tony dropped the bottle of vodka on his doorway, and walked down to the Cadillac, before he got there, the two hefty guards had opened the door for him to enter the vehicle.

“Aren’t you even worried about how I got to know your name?” Those were the first words the man said as Tony sat down inside the beautiful interior of the Cadillac.

There was a bottle of champagne on a small table between him and the stranger, and two fine glasses. No one needed to tell him just how wealthy this person is, the interior of the car alone was enough for one to decide.

“You might have looked into me, and I was quite popular one time,” Tony answered, now looking at the stranger eyeball to eyeball.

“What about the fact that you have a wife who just divorced you?”

Tony was so surprised that he knew about that, and it was evident on his face. It just happened tonight, no one should even know about it, but this man knew.

“How could you possibly-“

“I know more, Tony, more than you can ever imagine,” the stranger interrupted him with a small smile creeping to the corner of his lips.

“I know you dropped out of school because of your financial troubles, and I’m aware of the business you once had, and how it all came crashing down.”

“I am also aware that your grandmother is in the adult home, I know everything about you Tony, that is why I am here.”

Tony couldn’t believe his ears, this man knew all what was happening in his life, just how long he been following him. He was so shocked, and speechless.

“What…what, I mean who are you?” Tony asked, a shocking expression all over his face, there was someone who knew everything about him, someone who had been stalking him. But for what reason? It wasn’t as if he was one wealthy guy.

The strange man's lips curled up into a grin, he sighed and decided to answer Tony’s question.

“Before I tell you who i am, I’ve a question for you Anthony Marcellus.” The strange man said, looking right into Tony’s eyes.

Tony gave a slight nod, hinting him to go on, the real reason he was inside this car was because of the possibility that this man could make him rich, although one part of him knew it was far from being true, but a trial won’t hurt.

“What did your grandmother say about your parents?” The man asked, his eyes not leaving Tony’s.

Tony was flabbergasted by the question, he wasn’t expecting such at all, who was this man and why the hell was he asking all these questions? Tony just couldn’t wrap his head around it.

He decided to play along either way.

“They died in a car accident when I was six months old, she told me I was so lucky because they had decided to leave me with her for that week because of the journey would be stressful with a baby. I would have died with them, but God saved me.” Tony narrated, reflecting on the times when his granny would say those stories about his mother and father.

“Did you believe that story?” The stranger asked quite curious about what Tony really thought about the story.

“Why won’t I? I was a kid and I was asking questions, my grandmother gave me an answer, she even showed me thier graves, I go there every year to pay my respects to a father and mother I never knew.” Tony was confused with why the stranger would ask such a question.

“Well that’s true, that question is not valid, now that you’ve told me about your parents, I’ll tell you who I am.” He smiled.

Tony anxiousness rose up a little.

“I’m Walker Smith, personal assistant to Sir Winconstin the II, I run all of his affairs here in Ohio, I’m guessing you know who that his?”

“Is there a man alive in Ohio who doesn’t know Sir Winconstin?” Tony asked the question knowing how popular the man was, but there was still hundreds of questions in his head.

Smith smiled, Tony was right, Sir Winconstin was a popular figure, wealthiest in all of Ohio.

“What would you want with a man like me? I’m a nobody” Tony was too surprised, confused; those words were the only thing he could think of.

“No, you’re not. What if I told you, that your grandmother lied,”

Tony’s eyes widened!
