Chapter Forty-four

"Not again!"

Vanessa said out loud. Her phone rang for the tenth time that morning, and she was already fed up.

It was the weekend, and she decided to help her parents out at the pastry shop. Everything had been going well until a particular number kept calling repeatedly.

Vanessa decided not to pick up after the person had called the first two times. She assumed the person would get the memo that she was busy and would return the calls later, but the person didn't.

Vanessa held her phone and watched it ring. She was contemplating if she should pick up the call when the customer in front of her spoke up.

"Excuse me, can I pay for my purchase?" The customer said.

Vanessa quickly looked up from her phone.

"Oh, yes, sorry about that. How can I help you?" Vanessa asked.

"I'd like to pay for my items, please," the customer answered.

"Of course, I apologize for the delay. Let me ring up your items, " Vanessa responded.

The customer handed Vanessa her goods, and after costing it
