Chapter Twenty-one

The guards and Vanessa wore bewildered expressions, their faces frozen in disbelief. They seemed to be wondering how someone could be so brazen and unrepentant in the face of wrongdoing. After a moment of stunned silence, one of the guards finally spoke up.

"Wait, you're not even sorry?" he asked, his voice laced with incredulity. "You're not remorseful at all for stealing from the company?"

The guard's question was met with a shrug from the worker. "No, I'm not sorry. I'd do it again in a heartbeat if it meant getting what I wanted."

Vanessa's eyes widened in shock. "How can you be so callous?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

The worker's expression remained unyielding, his eyes gleaming with a sense of entitlement. "I'm just looking out for myself. That's what matters most."

The room fell silent once again. The only sound was the heavy breathing of the guards as they struggled to contain their anger.
