Chapter 5

"What really happened?" Zara and a few others were asking the same question as Jhony.

They were shocked by what Mr. Thane had just done in front of Aaron. All the invited guests knew very well how the Wood family was, a respected family that was highly respected by everyone. But Mr. Thane was respectful to a man whom not many knew.

Mr. Thane raised his face again and looked at Aaron. He saw Aaron, who gave a code wink with a hand gesture that signaled that Aaron didn't want Mr. Thane to say anything about Aaron's true identity.

Mr. Thane understood. He nodded slowly while holding the pen in his hand. "Thank you, prince, for coming to my very humble birthday."

Mr. Thane looked delighted to receive the gift. Everyone there was surprised at Mr. Thane's seemingly respectful attitude towards Aaron. "Why is Mr. Thane being respectful to him?" That's what most people questioned.

Mr. Thane could immediately tell Aaron's status from the gold engraving of the dragon crest on the tip of the pen because he knew only one family owned the crest, namely, the royal family of Austar. And since long ago, the Wood family has sworn to be loyal and serve the Austar royal family.

Aaron shook Lord Thane's hand with great dignity. "This is a great party. Congratulations on your birthday, Mr Thane."

Thane's eyes lit up at Aaron's praise. He was flattered and felt proud. "Thank you, Prince."

Everyone there was confused and questioning what was happening. "Who exactly is that person? Is he from a respectable family?"

"But from which family?" One of the invited guests from a wealthy family in Mahataran wandered around. "I think all the representatives of the great families in this city have been called and given gifts."

"And the gift, is it a very expensive pen that Mr. Thane is so happy to receive?" The others questioned about the gift and felt quite envious that Aaron was getting such respectful treatment from Mr. Thane.

The invited guests were very curious about the pen in Mr. Thane's hand, as it only looked like an ordinary pen. Some of them even raised their heads to look forward to confirming if the pen Aaron gave was an ordinary pen.

Zara clucked in annoyance while rolling her eyes. "How can that ugly pen make him bow in respect? Something must have gone wrong. He must have played a trick on Mr. Thane. I'm sure he did something."

Jhony, still shocked by what Mr. Thane had done, only replied in a low voice. "I don't know. It can't be an expensive pen that is rare worldwide."

Rozie snorted in annoyance. Her anger was becoming more and more apparent. Her head now felt dizzy, as if all the blood had accumulated there. "Of course, that's impossible. After all, what gift could be more precious and luxurious than yours, Jhony? He can't possibly afford expensive gifts because he has no money."

Jhony nodded slowly, agreeing with Rozie's words. He had already spent 20 million dollars to buy the rare tea and tens of hundreds of thousands of dollars to pay the person who searched for the tea to make a good impression on Mr. Thane, but things had not gone according to his plan.

Zara looked up at Jhony and whined in the man's arms. "What the hell is going on? Is this a common occurrence at parties? Poor people's gifts get more attention than rich people's?"

Jhony was starting to look frustrated by this. He ran a hand through his hair roughly. "It shouldn't be like this. This is completely unexpected. Damn it. I gave you the most expensive and rare gift in the world."

Jhony was even more annoyed that Aaron's arrival had attracted Mr. Thane's attention than should have been for him. Moreover, everyone started whispering behind him. The Smith family, known to have the most business ties with the Wood family, was not treated with as much respect as Mr. Thane did to Aaron.

"So what should we do now? Your expensive tea lost to a pen? This is absurd. Too bad, you already spent a lot of money on that rare tea, Jhony." Zara babbled in annoyance, which made Jhony even more stressed.

"Please enjoy the party, Prince." Mr. Thane raised his hand respectfully, and then his eyes moved to Aaron's side. The beautiful woman wearing a peach-colored dress caught his attention, widening his eyes slightly. "You are Miss Violet Ryder? Forgive me for not immediately noticing your presence."

Everyone there was even more surprised, causing them to look at Violet. Some people who knew about the Ryder family also commented in disbelief. "That really is Miss Violet of the Ryder family. No wonder it feels like I've seen her face somewhere."

"Yes, that's right. I didn't realize that it was Miss Violet Ryder either." Several people nodded in agreement. "She turned out to be very beautiful."

"That's right. Her aura is very strong. Her demeanor is also very elegant and charismatic." Other compliments were also spoken by people not far from Zara.

The praise that some people were giving Violet made Zara even more annoyed. "Aren't you praising her too much like that?"

Zara clenched her hands together in annoyance. She felt even more rivaled. Especially when she thought about Violet. She had read news on social media pages and business magazines about Violet being very rich, beautiful, smart, and admired by many people. It made her feel envious.

Jhony, who had already noticed Violet's beauty, secretly admired the woman. "Violet Ryder is famous for being beautiful." He murmured a little. His forehead furrowed as he thought of something. "But this doesn't make sense. How could Aaron come with that woman?"

Rozie nodded when she realized it. "That's right, why would they come together?"

"Is it possible that the two of them are lovers?" asked a middle-aged woman who suddenly interrupted the conversation of the three people with a loud voice that made everyone glance at her.

Everyone who heard that also questioned Aaron's status with Violet. "Is that so?"

Zara hardened her jaw at the sound of the people around her. She glanced at Aaron with glaring eyes. "That's not possible. Who would want to be with a poor, uneducated man like Aaron? Only an insane woman would want him."

Aaron and Violet heard Zara's words, which made Violet upset. Violet glanced at Zara elegantly, speaking loud and clear in front of everyone. "Yes, we are indeed lovers." Violet pointed at Aaron politely and charitably. "Please introduce my boyfriend."
