"Are you okay?" Landon asked me for the umpteenth time.

I nodded, averting my vision from the ground, to Landon.

"How did your challenge go?" I asked him, in order to change the topic.

I didn't want to have him asking questions I wouldn't be able to answer.

As expected, he got distracted.

Landon smiled brightly, flexing his muscles, "Took down my opponents with the few moves you taught me. They didn't see the moves coming so it knocked them right out of consciousness. Learning to fight on so much sand did help me get even better with fighting on the floor."

He finally learned the moves.

"Good. We will be proceeding."

As I said those words, Landon took a stance, creating a distance between us and curling his hands, ready to attack.

"Before we begin…."

Ivan knew Landon and I sparred regularly. He must have been watching. For the first time, I felt relieved my abilities were still unknown to anyone but Micah, Magda and Aki.

If I had used them to spar with Landon, he would have definitel

"If you really do not want to do this, I'm honestly not going to try to compel you to." I wasn't expecting him to decide to help me even after getting to know that Ivan was hot on our tail so, I was half expecting him to decide to back out now."I said I was going to help so I'm helping." He answered in a tone of finality but it was still a little weird to know he was helping because he wanted to."Thank you." I have been using those two words more than I ever did on Earth, in Lath."Thank me when we're out." He glanced at me and offered a smile."What do they see now?" I asked him where we passed by a group of Specials who didn't bother to spare either of us a glance, much to my surprise. They would never not stop to look at me for being the weakest. Moreover, I was pretty sure Landon had managed to earn an even bigger reputation by taking down every one of his opponents today during challenge, like he had said.I knew he was making them see what wasn't real."Nothing." He answered,

Landon kept the illusions up until we returned to the training ground.Since we didn't have to stay for too long in the faculty, we still had enough time to train before my daily routine."So?" He smiled but I could see the exhaustion under his eyes. Now that I saw how much power he possessed and how creatively but easily he could use his abilities, I supported that he deserved a higher rank than D-grade.I couldn't tell him I didn't find what I was looking for. It would only make him curious to know what I had gone in search of.I didn't even know exactly what I wanted to find but it was definitely not the secret room in use by the Principal. What could he possibly do in that room? Why had he gotten rid of the other bed?Whatever he wanted to do, it had to be similar to what he had done to Zenin and my mother. But there was just one bed now?Was he experimenting on himself?Did he probably notice the folders that I stole? He didn't seem bothered when I saw him so he likely didn't eve

"Why did you never tell me anything about Ivan's classified ability?" I asked him upon entering his Universe."You didn't have to know about it." He didn't sound remorseful.Well, he wasn't obliged to giving me information about anyone in the academy."You said not to have myself bleed during the fight. Why? Ivan's ability only needed my sweat."He was hiding something and I needed him to tell me."It is your blood you should care for and not your sweat, Kastian." He sighed."He can take my form and use my abilities by just touching my sweat. He has no use for my blood." I argued."If you do not believe me then that's on you but I tell you, Kastian, it is your blood Ivan values and not your sweat." There was something dismissive about his tone. How does he expect me to simply trust his words when he wouldn't clarify anything?"You do the same thing to Landon." I ignored the tiny voice in my head.I hid certain information from Landon because it wasn't safe for him to know.He is simpl

Time passed by so quickly and soon, there was just one day left until my fight with Ivan.Aki, Micah and Langrid were handing out my last training session today.By the end of tomorrow, I would either still be in Lath, carrying out the proper obligation of a Special by going on missions or I would be thrown back to Earth. There was absolutely no way I was letting the latter happen.Everyone already forgot about me on Earth. Going back there would be worse than being here and being called weak. However Ivan was going to fight me, I was going to fight back harder and I was going to win."Before we begin, Kastian, I would like for you to constantly keep in mind that you have the strongest prototype and that makes you the strongest. Even when you weren't fully in control of your prototype, you were still as strong.""You were like a ticking bomb that could explode anytime. Ivan could only taunt you from a distance because even he knew what you could do and you proved what you could do whe

I released Aki and unchained Langrid. When I freed Micah of my mind, I saw the relieved look on her face."That was impressive." Langrid smiled as I healed them. This was the first time he was genuinely finding anything about me impressive.I never thought I would be able to defeat any of them when they decided not to hold back on me but I did.I guess I did have a chance against Ivan after all."Ivan wouldn't see this coming. Go harder on him and kick his ass.""Like I kicked yours?"Aki lifted his chin proudly, "Like you kicked mine."When they were all completely healed, I waited a while to heal too before we stepped out."So Ivan really can't see any of us?" I believed Langrid when he said he had put measures in place to ensure that we were always invincible when we gathered together. But I still didn't feel comfortable after Ivan had shown up."He can't, Kastian. Like I said, he's only trying to manipulate you before your fight with him. If you get too scared and back out, he's g

Once I was in his Universe, I created several replicas of myself.I saw his outline give me space to train. When my screen appeared, I changed my mind to train in his Universe rather than Lath. That way, I could try to get him to tell me more about Ivan wanting my blood since apparently, Micah, Aki and even Langrid knew nothing about it."Remember, they are no faster than you are. You created them, you can destroy them. Always keep that in mind."I created them, I can destroy them and I will destroy them.Without wasting any more time, I created a dagger using my blood and flames. This was the same thing that had weakened Langrid.I wasn't so sure the flames would do any real damage to my replicas since they were also made of flames but I was a hundred percent sure my blood would do a lot of damage."Don't create that thing. You might not get a chance to so it during your fight with Ivan." He advised and I heeded.I had no idea what rules that shithead might set so I must learn to fig

I got out of bed and took a really short shower. The water felt cooler on my skin and I kept icing up everything in the bathroom. It was a good thing I had flame abilities too. What was I thinking, believing that it would be as easy to get a newly unlocked ability under control as he made it sound?I took longer than I should to put in the academy suit because I kept icing up all of the suits. When I was finally ready, I made sure flames were at the tip of my fingers as I stepped out of my room so I didn't accidentally ice up someone. As I walked through the hallway, Specials kept making side comments and snickering as they stared at me.I guess Ivan and I weren't the only ones looking forward to this day. From the mocking smiles on their faces, it was obvious they had already concluded the fight but I didn't let that get to me.Today, I was going to decide my fate by myself. They had all made me understand that Ivan was going to try to mess with my mind but I wouldn't let him.I woul

Rule number one: only opponents are allowed to fight. None are allowed to receive help.Well, that screwed up Landon's plan.Rule number two: no healers are allowed until the end of the fight. My healing ability just came in handy.Rule number three: it's a free fight, both opponents can fight with Physical abilities, Specie abilities or both.My breath hitched when I read the third rule.I shouldn't be bothered since I could finally show my Special abilities and prove how useful I can be on missions.I wouldn't have been bothered if I never found out Ivan's classified ability."It's nothing more than mind work, Kastian. He'll try to control your mind against you since he knew he didn't stand a chance against you." I mumbled to myself and my breathing become normal again.Rule number four: opponents must do what they can to survive and win.Oh, there's a lot I had in mind to do, to win.Rule number five: none of the previously mentioned rules prohibit the death of an opponent.Wait, w

After what felt like a few days, I had gone through the rest of the videos on the flashdrive, taking mental note of the few strategies my parents taught me when fighting using physical and Special abilities. By the time I had successfully gone through the entire flash drive, the laboratory had run out of food. I had already covered the entire books in the laboratory but I was yet to start training with the dummies or even my Special abilities. I didn't know if I was going to get new abilities or if I did, what they were going to be. I went to the training ground to train with the dummies. It was just like fighting Aki, Langrid or Landon except, the dummies already had their moves programmed. Turning them on, I took my stance, ready to train. There was no one to access my progress except the screen which I now understand was the seal created but my parents to protect me. One of the funniest came on and before it attacked me, I quickly attacked it just like my father had explaine

I continued screaming as I kept falling from what I now realize was a building and not a cliff. The mayor had just commissioned the building project before the day of my examination.Just how long had I been away from Earth for the building to have been completed so fast? Do not fall."What the hell?! I'm falling already!" I screamed at the screen as I continued to fall.No one could see me nor hear me so no one was coming to save me.No one would know when I fell and if I died which I knew I would, falling from such a height."Breathe, Kastian. Just breathe." I closed my eyes and tried to block out the fear.Aki had said that I could create absolutely anything with flames. If I could create a flame version of myself then creating something to save myself shouldn't be difficult."As long as you can think it, you can make it, Kastian." I repeated those words a few more times until I felt heat on my fingertips.I imagined a parachute made of flames and immediately something pulled me

Eager to know what deal my mother had made with the Principal, I clicked on the next video. It was still just my mother in the next video."Hi, Kastian. Knowing how curious children are, I know you must have eagerly clicked on the next video. You know, sometimes, I doubt that you would be the one to find this place and the flash drive but I believe you will be strong enough to find it all." She smiled.I was tempted to skip the other parts of the video until I found the part where she spoke about the deal she must have made with the Principal but I didn't.Every detail was important and I didn't want to miss it."Callin wanted control." Finally!"From the moment I saw him on Earth when I saved him, I knew he was going to develop an obsession with control. It was a good thing he wasn't strong enough to to on missions.""When the disease broke out, it went on for a while until he said he could help. Desperate, I took his help. Writer's POVAs Landon stabbed Ivan with the needle, his eyes went wide open."Get away from him." Callin whispered, watching how Ivan arched his back and moved his body in the creepiest way.Landon was terrified and in shock to even move an inch."Get the hell away from him!" Callin screamed and Landon quickly moved away, shaping out of the shock."What is happening?" Landon asked Callin. The portals had closed and the knives had stopped flying at the Principal. He could barely stand with knives all over his body."I don't know." Callin was confused. When he had worked on Zenin, nothing of this sort happened."What the hell is that supposed to mean?!" Landon screamed at the principal, watching how Ivan's body kept bending in the weirdest angles."I've never worked on anything like this before. It's….. it's…. It's insane." He stuttered."You've worked on something like this before? With who?" Landon was beginning to understand why Kastian always asked him questions that made him doubt

Writer's POVLangrid rushed back into Kastian's room, looking all ruffled up."What's it like out there?" Landon asked Langrid, curious. It sounded like real chaos from inside Kastian's room, he dreaded stepping out."You're about to find out." Was Langrid's only answer as he handed out their communication materials to each of them."So," he was interrupted by a loud bang outside Kastian's room.He only spared the door a glance before speeding up with his explanation."There have been changes of plans. We are canceling out Aki destroying the laboratory and my part to find out what Callin knows. What's out there is probably going to destroy the entire school. What we feared the most has come for us, we don't not need anything else that Callin knows." He rushed his words.Aki took the ear plugs from Landon to help him with it.The latter struggled with it as fear ate deep into his bones.Over the length of time he had been in the academy, they had been made to believe that no one could

Writer's POV"That was a strange plan, Langrid. It could have fucked us up." Aki didn't believe the plan was going to work.Nothing he believed seemed to work these days; from letting Magda go on that mission believing she was going to come back, to believing Kastian was actually going to win his fight with Ivan, free and fair."Yet, here we are with knowledge no other Special knows." Landon was still a nervous wreck."You look like shit." Everyone could clearly see Landon shaking yet, Aki purposely pointed it out."Leave the kid, Aki, would you?" Micah rolled her eyes."So, where do we go from here, Langrid? We have enough knowledge really worth having our memories wiped out this time." Micah turned to Langrid."The real transfer of the prototype into Ivan's body has not begun. It's only been tested on him to check if he can survive having such powerful prototype in his body. The Principal is not going to return to Ivan until the next two days or tomorrow, if he's curious to know how

FLASHBACK"I'll keep Kastian's friend at bay. He might cause some trouble if he's left unwatched."Friendship.That was the only possible relationship between Kastian and Landon that Micah, Aki and Langrid believed caused Landon to react the way that he did over Kastian's death."We'll meet here tomorrow and share information. It's not about us this time or just the people close to us that have been affected but about the whole of humanity. This is us truly being heroes.""Keep me at bay?" Landon scoffed, joining them."Shit!" Langrid cussed."I didn't cover us with Stealth.""How did you get away from your friends?" Micah asked, stepping closer to Landon."D-grade Special illusion user." Landon straighted his shoulder and stood proudly."Although, I'm pretty sure the ranking system made a horrible mistake leaving me in the D-grade." He muttered but loud enough for them to hear."You cannot be here, kid. You should leave." Aki told Jim off and Landon huffed."You think you're the only

The Principal opened a portal and nodded at Ivan. The latter didn't take his hands off Langrid's head immediately. He still doubted that it was a good thing leaving Langrid alive."Let him go, Ivan. If I say he's going to help us then he will." The Principal instructed Ivan sternly. He still hesitated but eventually took his hands off Langrid.Once he was free, he looked back and forth at the Principal and Ivan."Why are you both staring so weirdly?" He frowned, moving closer to the portal."You declined joining us for the experiment on me." Ivan decided to test if they could really go on without killing Langrid."Stop foo

While he's at it, I decided to tell you everything about the first mission of the academy and how that changed the academy.""Together with the psychic users, we discovered that a planet called Karile held dangerous energy. Your father was a bit skeptical about the whole plan to go to Karile and check it out."She smiled and looked sideways like she was avoiding getting caught saying the words she was about to say, "To be honest, soldier, I was equally terrified."She straightened her back, "But of course, I hid it from your father.
