Adrián woke up suddenly, with his heart beating hard. The room was in gloom, illuminated only by the weak moonlight that leaked through the window. He sat up quickly, trying to calm his broken breathing.
"It was just a dream ..." he murmured, but inside he knew he was not so simple.
The air was loaded with energy, as if something invisible moved around it. Then, a sound made him tense: the wooden crunch from the door of his room.
Adrián looked towards the entrance and felt a chill travel his back. The door slowly ajar with a prolonged squeak. Beyond the threshold, the hall was wrapped in dense shadows, but could distinguish the silhouette of something moving.
"The test has begun," Eleonor's voice resonated inside his head.
Adrián stood up, feeling a tingling in advance and nervousness. He had faced powerful opponents at the Academy, but this was different. Here, the magic of the house itself was testing its worth.
He inspired deep and advanced towards the door, crossing the threshold with determination. He barely set foot outside, felt the air change. The torches of the corridor lit with bluish flames, projecting shadows that seemed to move for their own will.
Then, the hall was transformed.
The walls lengthened and twisted, the ancient portraits came to life with mocking and whisper expressions. The door of his room disappeared behind him. There was no going back.
In front of him, three paths opened. Each was different:
One led to a descending ladder, from which a dense and greenish mist emanated.
Another carried him by an endless corridor, where the shadows twisted as if they were alive.
The third invited him to cross a golden door, with engravings of runes that shone weakly.
"Choose wisely," Eleonor whispered, although there was no sign of his presence.
Adrián swallowed. There were no clear instructions. This test was not physical, but mental.
He looked at the three options carefully. I knew the house would do nothing at random. Each road represented a different challenge.
The descending ladder symbolized the unknown and possibly their fears.
The hall of shadows could be a test of value and resistance.
The golden door, with its bright runes, could represent knowledge or something more dangerous.
Adrián closed his eyes for a moment and trusted his intuition. He knew that this decision would mark the beginning of his true proof.
He breathed deeply and took a step forward, choosing his destiny.
Adrián felt the weight of his choice as he crossed the threshold of the golden door. As soon as he touched her, the runes shone with a warm and enveloping light. A feeling of aggravation toured it, as if the ground had disappeared under his feet. His vision clouded, and when he could see clearly again, he was in a circular stone chamber, illuminated by floating torches.
In the center of the room, a pedestal held an old book with dark leather roofs, recorded with the same door symbols. Adrián advanced cautiously, his breathing accompanied by the tension of the moment. By extending the hand towards the book, Eleonor's voice resonated again in his mind:
"Knowledge is power, but it can also be a curse. Only those willing to face the truth can advance."
Adrián felt a chill to travel his back. I knew I couldn't doubt. With determination, he opened the book and his eyes met with words that seemed to dance on the page. An acute pain pierced his head, as if his mind were being invaded by a torrent of prohibited information. Vision After vision, they deployed before him: hooded figures drawing circles of energy, ancient secrets of the academy, forgotten pacts with forces beyond human understanding.
Suddenly, the torch flames became a deep red and the room trembled. A Guttural whisper rose in the air, as if something had woken up.
"You've seen too much," the voice warned, but this time it was not Eleonor.
Adrián felt a stalking presence, a shadow rising from the dark corners of the camera. His instincts shouted to run, but his body was paralyzed. Something moved beyond its peripheral vision, an entity formed with pure shadows.
The book in his hands began to burn with a white light. Without thinking, Adrián closed it suddenly and felt as if his consciousness were torn from that place. When he opened his eyes, he was on his knees in the middle of the original hall, panting. The golden door had disappeared.
Eleonor manifested himself to him, his indecipherable expression.
"You overcome the first test. But the real challenge is just beginning."
Adrián barely had time to recover his breath when the hall began to change again. The walls shrugged, the torches assigned, and a new iron door emerged in front of him, decorated with inscriptions in a language he did not recognize. Inside emanated a cold that pumped to the bones.
Eleonor took a step forward, extending a hand towards the door. "The second test awaits you. This time, there will be no warnings. You must trust what you learned."
Adrián looked at the iron door and felt his heart accelerate. I knew I couldn't go back. He inspired deep and, with a last look at Eleonor, pushed the door and entered the dark.
Inside, the temperature descended immediately, and the air acquired an oppressive weight. I couldn't see beyond a couple of steps in front of him. Black was dense, as if the light itself avoided that place. Behind him, the door closed with a deaf echo, sealing it inside.
Adrián advanced cautiously, extending a hand in search of something tangible. Their steps resonated on a wet stone. The silence was so absolute that his own breathing seemed deafening. Suddenly, a bluish flash illuminated the stay for a moment, revealing static figures on the walls, shadows that seemed carved in the rock, watching it with empty eyes.
A voice arose from darkness, low and serpentant.
"Who dares to challenge the unknown?"
Adrián swallowed, his mind by processing what he had just seen. I wasn't alone.
The blue flash emerged again, this time prolonged. Before him, a stone altar appeared in the center of the room, on which a ornate dagger rested. The edge shone with a disturbing glow, reflecting symbols that twisted as if they were alive.
Adrián instantly knew that this test was different. It was not only knowledge or resistance. Here, I would have to make a decision.
The voice spoke again, closer, this time.
"Sacrifice is the price of true power. What are you willing to offer?"
