An Interesting Offer

As if I didn't hear what the pale-looking boy said, I turned around and gave him a 'what did you just say' look.

Taylor understood the meaning behind those eyes and so he chuckled before replying. "Well, I'm certain that you aren't living well wherever you are. Instead of having to wake up to meet the same ugly faces every moment, how about you pack your stuff and come live with me in the dorm? It's better than staying in a cold house, am I not right?"

Yes, he was right but how is he so much aware of the situation in his home? This question was something that troubled me.

"How are you certain that I'm not living happily at home?" I asked with brows knitted in inquisitiveness.

"Do you suspect me or something?" Taylor asked back with a sly smile. "Of course, you are now a little star in the whole school. Who doesn't know about your ordeals with your step-family, huh? It's everywhere and I happen to hear them the moment I came to this school."

"Hmm..." I sighed quietly. I was still not able to agree with the boy's answer but I had no idea how to defend myself.

"Are you still contemplating?" Taylor asked, seeing how reluctant I was to agree to his opinion. "Staying with them will only make your life unbearable, besides, you have nothing to lose if you pack into my room. I am a level 6 ability user and I believe no one in this school will make your life difficult as long as I'm by your side."

Inwardly, I liked the idea of moving out of the house. I wanted to be alone without having to worry about anything or even wake up to constantly see the faces of those that loathe me. In my past life, I lived alone, so doing the same here wouldn't be so much of a bad idea.

But then staying with this strange kid was like entering the lion's den. I am oblivious to his intentions toward me, why he was being kind, and all that to me. And just thinking about it leaves me more reasons to doubt and be wary of him.

"Hey, can you both hurry up? I'm starving here!" Rina called from the front.

We were almost at the front of the school canteen and she had been standing there for a while now, waiting for us to meet up with her but each time she turns around, she would see us, standing at a spot and mumbling to ourselves. It had gotten her slightly upset.

"Let's hurry, I'm also starving!" I said to Taylor and then hurried away.

We trio walked into the canteen, all eyes were on us. They looked at Rina and Taylor in admiration and envy while they looked at me in disdain. They would whisper insults at me and then laugh out loud to my hearing.

It was expected to be because of my power level which was only the number 2.

Unsurprisingly, this didn't bother or matter to me. I was already used to that kind of attitude right from my past life and so little things like insults mattered nothing to me. I only hope that they would not come to attack me.

"Let's order and then go over there," Rina said and pointed at a table. We agreed and then went ahead to order some food.

I wouldn't have been ordering any food because I had no money but thankfully, I was able to see some money saved inside a box belonging to the old Ryan. The old Ryan must have been a money-minded person to have saved such an amount of money, it's only a shame that he is no longer alive to reap the fruit of his hard labor.

We quickly made our order and then headed to the table to sit down. When we got there, we were just about to sit down when Alex came into the canteen, followed by a group of boys who were behind him.

The moment he spotted me and Rina together, anger climbed up to his chest and he marched to where we were.

"What are you still doing with this failure? I heard his power level is just 2," He walked up to Rina and demanded an answer.

I noticed the number 5 on his wrist and so I ignored his presence and went ahead to sit down, my friend Taylor also sat down but his eyes were completely glued on Alex and Rina, no one else saw this but his lips were curled up in a smirk.

"How does that affect you?" Rina questioned. "It's my choice to be with him, and not yours. Or have you forgotten what I told you yesterday?"

He turned and glared hatefully at me.

I wasn't seeing his reaction because I was bent on my food but I still felt the killing intent he was directing at me.

The desire to teach me a lesson filled his head and his hate for me thwarted his sense of reasoning. Before anyone could grasp what was happening, he rushed at me and pulled me by the collar, slamming my face right on the table.

He had used so much force on that attack that soon, blood was seen trickling down from the injury on one side of my face.

The students around gasped in shock but no one dared to rush to the scene, they all gave a long distance from where the whole thing was happening.

"Ryan!" Rina gasped as she stared at my bloodied face.

She rushed to touch me but Alex stopped her from doing so, he pushed her into her seat and then went ahead to attack me again but Taylor dived into action.

"Don't you have some manners?" Taylor asked as he blocked his path. No one saw when he made his move, I only saw him standing right between us. His voice sounded calm yet it was intimidating.

"I have no business with you, stay out of this!" Alex warned him but the latter didn't feel any slightest bit of fear rather, he was smirking.

"Tell me... How can I stay out of this when he has already become my business?" Taylor asked him.

I wanted to ask him since when did I become his business but the pain on my face couldn't let me, though it was not comparable to that damn snake bite.

"You've been wanting him out of your house right? How about we make a deal?" Taylor went further to ask him.

"What deal?" Alex asked with raised brows.

"Don't lay your hands on him again and in exchange for that, he moves in with me... This way, you won't have to see him whenever you wake up."

An interesting offer!

Alex had always wanted me to leave, how did Taylor know about it or should I call it a coincidence?

I stared at Alex, he was staring back at me. I know he felt reluctant to let me go free, but then the offer was something he wanted.

"Fine!" He said after a while. "You better keep your deal and not let me see him again because the next time I do, I'll damage that pretty face of his!" With that, he left the canteen along with his lackeys.
