Under suspicion

Zaiden found himself walking aimlessly along the unfamiliar road, his mind clouded with confusion about what exactly was happening. The sudden disappearance of his trusted butler had left him stranded, unsure of where he was supposed to go or what his next steps should be.

He glanced around without any clue where he was, hoping for some sign to guide him but the surroundings remained as unfamiliar as ever. Lost in his thoughts, Zaiden was snapped out of his daze by the sound of a vehicle screeching to a halt beside him.

The driver's window rolled down, revealing a uniformed police officer sitting with stern expressions. The officer had been holding a tablet as he peered at Zaiden with a mix of curiosity and suspicion. Perhaps he was coming from that dead girl’s place?

"Excuse me, sir?” The officer called out sternly, his voice tinged with authority. "Can I have your name, please?" Zaiden was taken aback by the sudden interaction, he hesitated for a moment before regaining his composure. The officer’s crimson eyes raised his confusion even more.

He had met an unusual person like Pike and now another one with non-human features. The hell was going on? However, he immediately recalled Pike addressing him as Zaiden. It was confirmed that the owner of the body was also having the same name.

"I'm Zaiden, sir." He replied while his voice did not display any hint of uncertainty. The officer's eyebrows raised slightly, and he studied Zaiden intently. The young man's dishevelled appearance and apparent confusion piqued his interest. The officer's instincts told him that something might be amiss.

With a tone of concern, the officer spoke again, "Zaiden, you seem lost. Do you have a place to go? I could give you a ride to your home, if you would like." The officer seemed to lay a trap for him which Zaiden completely understood but he also could not choose to refuse bluntly.

Zaiden's face brightened slightly at the offer of assistance which relieved his worry of finding a way out of the situation. He realised that he had been walking aimlessly, with no clear destination in mind. Accepting the officer's help seemed like the best course of action for now.

"I... I would appreciate that." Zaiden replied, relief washing over him that maybe this way he would be able to figure out what was happening. "Thank you for your kindness, officer." After all, he could not just go and ask anybody where the heck he was or what the realm was called?

The police officer nodded, a reassuring smile forming on his face. "Not a problem, sir. Hop in, and we will get you home safely. I already saw that you are a student and got your record too on my tablet." It was an obvious observation from the school shirt Zaiden had been wearing.

Zaiden climbed into the backseat of the police car, his sense of worry regarding Curtis’ absence to rise. As the officer started the engine and pulled away from the curb, Zaiden glanced out the window trying to ponder the realm which seemed absolutely like the human world.

“You kids shouldn’t stay out of homes for so long. It is not safe anymore, especially when humans have been conspiring against us vampires.” The officer drove while giving a piece to Zaiden as the middle aged cop scolded him for roaming recklessly. However, the very obvious words pricked Zaiden’s attention.

“Did you know a girl was killed today, just a few hours ago. Her dead body was found all alone in the house with all her blood sucked dry from her body. It is obvious that the vampires cannot feed on each other. Who else could it be? Cruel humans!”

Zaiden had no clue that his reckless action done in the human world could do such damage too. Moreover, he was well aware that the cop was talking about the woman he just left behind. Zaiden gulped when it dawned upon him that he was now in the vampiric realm.

What was worse? He was inside the body of a vampire, the creatures he despised the most. Fuck! Fate did play him dirty. The power which came with the body made him realise that it was not all good. It was a perfect blend of power and punishment set for him!

As the police car neared his residence which the cop had seen from the records without asking Zaiden. Whereas Zaiden stole a quick glance at the officer sitting beside him. The cop's eyes were focused on the road ahead, a professional demeanour maintained throughout the journey.

Zaiden swallowed hard trying not to curse, his uncertainty mounting with every passing second. He had no choice but to let things move the way they already were. He had no clue where his butler Curtis had gone to and who he was in that realm. So it was the wise thing he could do.

Arriving at his home which also seemed unfamiliar to him, Zaiden took a deep breath with his heart pounding in his chest. He hesitated for a moment before reaching out to ring the doorbell, unsure of what or who awaited him on the other side.

As the sound of footsteps approached from within the house, Zaiden's breath was stuck in his throat. The door creaked open slowly, revealing a figure standing on the other side. While Zaiden tried his best to keep himself calm and composed.

The officer too, observed the whole unfolding of the scene, his expressions completely reflecting his suspicion regarding Zaiden being present there at that spot. Or someone who might know something.
