“No one has ever survived a sting from the Kodrogo! I'm sorry Nhevia, but it seems your friend will surely lose his life!” An elderly man said to Nhevia who sat beside Alves, with a wet piece of fabric she used to clean his sweat periodically.
“There's still life in him.” She insisted. “Yes, but how long before life goes out of him?” “Not before I get him to Arithayal”“What?” The man asked in shock. “Yes, the wizard will surely have a way of curing him with his magical powers.” “But that is a very long distance. His body is already heated up and I don't think he'll make it to the Eastlands.”“Should I rather sit and watch him die, or should I try and see how it goes? This man saved me without even knowing who I was. I would do the same for him.”“I hope the spirits protect you child.” The man offered his blessings then left the room. *****Water, food, a few clothes in a backpack, and Nhevia embarked on her journey to the Eastlands with Alves carefully tied at the back of the horse, leaning on her body as the horse moved slowly to avoid him falling off. “Arithayal doesn't even know me, why would he be interested in anything I have to say? Oh yes! He would surely know Alves is the Bushika when he sees him, he's a wizard and he should have such power. Shouldn't he? Alves.” She spoke to Alves knowing he couldn't hear her. It helped her establish a connection with him, making the journey less boring and ominous. The journey was arduous, with Nhevia pushing forward through dense forests and treacherous terrain. Alves' condition worsened with each passing day, his breathing shallow and his skin pale. “I won't give up on you Alves, I haven't known you for so long but I know you are strong. You are a strong person. Hold on, hold on tight.” She finally crossed the borders into the Eastlands, asking anyone she saw “Excuse me, sorry to interrupt, I'm looking for the Wizard, Arithayal.” Everyone she met had no idea until she met an eleven year old boy. “Hey, I'm new here and I'm looking for Arithayal, the wizard. Do you know where I can find him?”The boy looked at her, tall on the horse then looked at Alves. “That guy looks dead, is he your boyfriend?” He asked, wanting to touch Alves’s boots. “No he's my friend and he needs help from the wizard or he will die.”“I will help you, but it will cost you a few coins.” The little boy smiled, revealing the gap between his front teeth. “I'm so sorry I don't have any coins left, can you be kind enough to take me there, please?”“Sorry I don't have any energy left to take you there.” He immediately turned to leave. “Wait!” Nhevia called back. “Here, that's all I have.” She tossed a coin to him and the boy shook his head in disapproval, Nhevia tossed another coin then he smiled. “Good, now I have the strength to take you there.” He put the coins in his pockets then pointed to a house not far from where they stood. “There, that's Arithayal’s place.”“What? The place is just right there? You could've just told me it's right there.” She felt ashamed of being cheated by a child. But at the same time, felt disappointed that a kid would be so cunning. “I needed a few coins for my dinner. Thank you beautiful stranger.” The boy said, waving at her with a mocking smile. Just as Nhevia turned to leave, she saw two men emerge from a crowd in the distance, pointing at the boy who'd just cheated her. “There he is, the little boy, he's the one who stole my wallet yesterday.” One of them said and they ran towards the little one. “He picks the pockets of everyone in the market. Get him now!” They followed after the boy as he ran to the back of a house nearby. “Wow, he's not a learner.” Nhevia was shocked at how professional he was. *****“What brings you here?” the voice of Arithayal echoed as he walked from one side of the room to another with his hands behind him. His black robes and white hair made him good to look at. Nhevia expected someone old, but was shocked to see a man looking in his fifties. “He must have been using magic portions to slow down his ageing.” Nhevia thought. “My friend Alves. He's dying.” She started. “I can see that.”“I need your help, great Wizard. He was stung by the Kodrogo and I know of nowhere else to go but to you alone.”“When did this happen?” Arithayal held Alves’s hand to check his pulse. “It happened a few days ago.” She could already sense that Arithayal was a good man. He walked around sick Alves, whispering in a language Nhevia has never heard. He touched Alves and placed the back of his hand around his neck to feel the body temperature. “He's really dying.” He said before seeing the medallion around his neck. “The medallion of light!” He whispered. “Is it something special?”“This belonged to an old friend who went to the Westlands in search of the Bushika. His name is Trent Auriel.” He couldn't understand why someone else ended up with it. “Trent Auriel?” Nhevia asked. “Yes. You know him?”“I wouldn't say I know him. But I saw him in Alves’s past.”“You have a gift of the past?”“Yes wizard, I can see people's past.”“So, in Alves’s past, what did you see about my friend Trent? Where is he now?”“I'm sorry, your friend is dead. He met Alves in prison and he gave him this medallion. Trent was beheaded by the Doshikans.”“Why did they kill him?”“I'm sorry, I can see the past, but to see so many details, I need to have longer contact with the subject. I didn't see so much the night I touched Alves.” “It's alright.” Arithayal whispered in the heartbreak of losing his friend. He looked around the room with watery eyes, looked at the medallion around the young man's neck then uttered “I can cure him!”*****“Kharimat eliahs… Dorshkhai…” Nhevia could hear the wizard’s magical words from outside. He requested to be left alone with Alves for the healing magic and it was a long and challenging process. Her fear arose whenever she remembered that there was no record of anyone ever surviving the Kodrogo’s sting. “Khis et kumet bibar mhert kwihkom” Arithayal’s voice sounded again and Nhevia heard someone cough “What? That's Alves, that's him, he's alive!” She rushed into the room though not told to do so, she could see Alves sitting up on his own. “You're alive! It worked. Oh thank the spirits.” She rushed to where he was, wrapped her hands around his neck in a tight hug. “I was scared you might never speak again.” She had never had a connection with anyone since the death of her parents till Alves came into her life that night, and she'd spent the past days on the back of a horse with him wondering if he would make it alive or not. “Thank the spirits!” She prayed again, hugging him even tighter. It meant more than just seeing him alive again. Lost in the joy, Nhevia broke from the hug, placing her soft lips against his. It was a kiss! She quickly noticed her excitement had gone too far when she pulled back “Oh I'm… I'm so sorry I got too excited.”Lord Arman Butshaf had just finished a cup of wine while at the dining table with his wife, Meredith. Being the most known and richest person in the world, it was normal for his breakfast to be a feast. “More wine!” He ordered, and a servant rushed with a jug full of red wine, pouring it carefully into his cup to avoid spilling it on the ground, or on the master. It was a big offence to spill drinks on the Almighty Lord Arman Butshaf. Servants were beaten, and if not lucky, beaten to death! “My Lord! News from the 43rd battalion has arrived” The voice of General Cenred put the breakfast to a pause as he approached Butshaf with a neat scroll in his hand. “Here my Lord.” He stretched the scroll forth to his master but Butshaf waved it away. “Just tell me what's in the letter Cenred.” He took a sip of the fine wine. “Sorry my Lord, my loyalty does not permit me to read letters directed specially to you. So I did not read this one.” Cenred took a step back, his hands crossed behind him
“Now that Arman Butshaf has put a bounty on your head, we have to act fast. We need to find a way of getting to his villa, and you can get close enough to kill him.” Wise words from Arithayal as he walked restlessly around the room. He knew there was no time. Word spread fast in the Eastlands and it could take less than two days before every bounty hunter comes looking for Alves. “When everyone hears that the tyrant is dead. The search for you will be over, because there will be no one to pay the bounty.” Nhevia said. “But how can we get to his villa? From what I've heard, it's the most protected place anyone has heard of.” Alves needed suggestions. Arithayal, his palms rubbing against each other, continued with his steps around the room as he spoke “Yes it's seriously guarded, there is only one known entrance into the villa. And only his most trusted General leaves the Villa whenever he wants to.” “His most trusted general? Who could that be?” Alves asked as though a thought just
“My Lord, we should kill him right now!” A soldier suggested as he rushed to grab Alves by his hands and tied them behind him. “No! Do not kill him yet. Perhaps he will be useful to me.” Arman smiled, his devilish eyes looking at Alves. “How stupid could you be to walk into my villa, pulling such a stunt? Huh? You think we're all dumb?” He sounded angrier. Lord Arman’s wizard went closer, “Why don't you want to kill this impersonator right now? He's proven to be dangerous, his aim was to make an attempt on your life.” “Let's talk somewhere private.” Butshaf said and they walked away from everyone, into the Lord's private chambers. “Listen to me, whoever had the magic to turn that young man into General Cenred must really be a great wizard. Such powers are not seen around everyday.” Arman began. “So what is your plan? My Lord.”“I and my wife have been unable to have a child. According to you, I have been cursed. So this powerful wizard might have the power to lift this curse. Or
“You good for nothing fools! How could you be here and let the prisoner escape!” Lord Arman screamed at the guards who were left to watch over Alves when he escaped. “We are very sorry. We were standing right here and all of a sudden, we lost consciousness. By the time we could know what was going on, the prisoner had already gone.” The guards pleaded. “You failed to do your duties and you shall pay with your lives. You shall die by hanging before night falls!”*****The hunt for Alves had become more intense after his unimaginable escape with the great wizard Arithayal. The reward for his capture was increased to a hundred and fifty thousand gold pieces, making the bounty hunters more aggressive. Jasper, a popular bounty hunter in the Eastlands moved around in the wilderness searching patiently to find the Bushika, he was a professional and his skills were praised among everyone. “What is that?” Jasper heard a sound, he stopped his movements and silently drew his sword as he looke
The joy of killing the dreadful beast was still present on their faces in the form of smiles. Alves and Nhevia prepared to leave with all the wood they had gathered in the basket. “This should be enough.” Alves said. “Yeah, let's go back. Arithayal might be awake from his ‘consportation’ it started yesterday right?”“Yeah, yesterday. Let's go!”As they both turned towards the direction leading back home, they heard a voice behind them. “Not so fast!” They quickly turned in shock only to see Jasper and his partner Pompey. “Hello Mr. Bushika and Mrs. Bushika, I hope this message finds you well, we kindly wish to kill you.” Pompey laughed while scratching his thick beard. “Who are you? And what do you want?” Nhevia asked, holding Alves’s hand, dragging him backwards away from the two men as they dangerously walked forward to them. “What do we want? Isn't it funny to ask that question considering the fact that you know too well, the Bushika is worth a hundred and fifty thousand piece
The arrival of Martha was unexpected but welcomed. What was the problem was her news about having a child with Arithayal the wizard. They all sat down in Arithayal’s house as they discussed more about the shocking news, giving all ears to Martha as she explained everything, taking them back to happenings in the past. “The two of you might not know me.” She started, referring to Alves and Nhevia. “I am a good friend to Arithayal, I wouldn't say we were just friends because we were doing alot of things that lovers do. We used to have sex, many times when I lived here in Eastland with my parents, I was nineteen and so in love with Arithayal here. Before my parents and I moved to Portland, I was pregnant but was scared of telling them or even Arithayal. So I left without ever letting you know that I carried your child inside of me.” “You disappeared from my life without giving me the slightest hint. You just Vanished. Why are you bringing this up after all these years?” Arithayal sound
“There he is, shoot him!” Commander Zhain ordered his men who were running along with him in pursuit of Alves, a 19-year old boy who sneaked into the soldier's camp to steal bread for himself and his little sister. “Shoot that little thwart! What are you waiting for?” Commander Zhain screamed and his soldiers launched a rain of arrows at the hungry teenager who couldn't think of any other way to feed but only to manoeuvre his way into a den of soldiers, the Doshikan camp. A group of soldiers who submitted their loyalties to the most evil man in the world, Lord Arman Butshaf. “Oh spirits, please protect me. Let life not slip from my hands today. I beg of you.” Alves prayed as he ran faster, jumping over fallen trees and thumbs in the forest that everyone in the village never dared to enter.“You all can't get your aiming right. You can't even shoot a little boy. You're letting him fade away.” Zhain uttered angrily at his soldiers who's arrows couldn't get to Alves as intended. “Give
“My search has finally come to an end! Thank the spirits!” The old man in prison with Alves celebrated with a genuine smile. “What is going on Mr? I don't really understand anything you just said.”“Listen to me, young one. My name is Trent Auriel, I came from the Eastlands in search of Bushika. I made contact with a powerful Wizard in the Oak village and he told me that I would find the Bushika here in the Westlands. I've been searching for that one person all these years. When I got arrested, I thought my search was over. But now look at you, right in front of me. Destiny is at work here.”“I don't even know you.”“Young one, you don't need to know me to believe this. Here, touch this.” Trent stretched the Medallion to him, and it glowed again as it got closer to Alves. “I don't think I want this.” Alves shifted backwards. “What is your name?’ Trent took a step forward. “Alves.”“Alves, your birth was for a reason. In every generation, there is evil and there's a hero born to fi
