Alves walked around the small prison looking at the Medallion in his hand, he'd contemplated wearing it since it was handed over to him, but he wasn't so sure if he should. “When will I be freed from this place? Will they ever let me go? Or they'll cut my fingers like Trent told me? I guess I shouldn't wait to find out.” He took the Medallion closer to his neck. “If this can give me some super power, let's see what kind of power it has. I might be needing it to escape this shitty place!” He hung it around his neck and it glowed again. “Oh… what's happening?” Alves felt his body shaking, his eyes glowed heavy blue along with the necklace and the prison guard was stunned to see that.
“Magic! The prisoner has magic!” The soldier quickly drew his sword and called more of his men “Get over here. The boy's got magic!”Alves felt a kind of strength he'd never felt before, fire burning inside him and his body heated up like a battery being charged. He felt the energy filling him up so fast he fell on his knees “Ah…!” he screamed. It was a power transmission process from the Medallion into his body. “What is happening to him?” one of the soldiers wondered. “I don't think it's anything in our favour, kill him before he turns into a beast we can't fight. And don't go close to him.”One of the soldiers brought a bow and arrow as always, aimed at Alves and shot him right on his chest! Alves didn't feel it, the arrow went in but caused no harm. He turned to look at the Doshikan soldiers, looked back at the arrow inside of him and he removed it from his body, leaving them in shock. He got angry and his medallion glowed red. “I think he's got some kind of power, ring the warning bell quickly!”Alves quickly approached the iron doors, held them so tightly, shaking them furiously and they could see the walls cracking as the metal slowly lost its attachment to the bricks. “Holy moly!” The shock was unhidden. One last shake and Alves had the iron doors removed from the wall, he threw it at three of the men and they fell to the ground losing their consciousness. He picked up a sword quickly and blocked an attack from the fourth man who came from behind, then shifted back. The soldier swerved in an attempt for Alves’s neck but the young man ducked then got a big cut on the man's stomach “Uh!” his mouth fell open as his body made its way to the floor like a falling plank. “Lock the gates! Close every hole in the base. A prisoner has escaped!” Orders flew from every corner of the Doshikan Base as Alves rushed to undress one of the fainted soldiers on the floor. He took his uniform and dressed just like a Doshikan covering the helmet which prevented recognition, picked up another sword and dropped the one stained with blood, then he ran to the prison exit. “Hey, have you seen the prisoner?” a Doshikan asked Alves, thinking he was one of them. “No! But I think he went that way. So, you go that way, I go this way.” He misled him then finally made his way outside, he could see the gate being guarded heavily. Four men at the inside of the gate and four men outside. He didn't want to make a mess, “Oh no! The security here is on another level. I need to get back to my family, I need to go back to my sister.” Alves talked to himself, not knowing his sister had vanished after being hit by an arrow. “Alright, I need to get to the gate. Alves, play cool, take a deep breath.” words of encouragement to himself and he finally reached the gate with confidence. “No one is to leave now soldier, where are you headed?” A deep voice became behind one of the helmets worn by the scary looking soldiers at the gate. “Some of our men were sent to the woods on a matter of importance by Commander Zhain. They've exceeded their given time and I was asked to go check on them.” Alves cleared his throat after forcing his voice to sound so deep. “Matter of importance? What matters?” The soldier enquired. “You want me to go back and tell Commander Zhain that you're questioning his orders?” “Oh fool, it was just a simple question.” Now, there was fear in his voice as it cracked. “Open the gates for him, let him go!” The soldier ordered and behold, the gates to the exit of the Doshikan Base, was opened widely for Alves. He couldn't help but smile behind the mask, “finally!” he whispered to himself. But before he could step a foot out, the chief of security rose from his seat and tension rose in Alves, “Wait a minute,” the man seemed to have noticed something suspicious and walked straight at him squeezing his face. “You just said Commander Zhain sent you?”“Yes I did.” He hoped he still sounded confident. “I repeat, did you say Commander Zhain sent you?”“I just said yes!”“Then get me some apples on your way back.”“Phew!” Alves felt the relief but never let it out verbally. *****“Khira, I'm back! I'm back, little sister!” Alves shouted out of excitement as his figure emerged from the deep road. Henry, his neighbour who'd seen Khira get shot, was right there but didn't know how he would break the news to that happy face approaching down there. “Hey Henry, come here!” Alves gave him a tight hug and held him up for a spin “Yeah…” He said, spinning him around. “I'm so glad to see you again, Alves.” He managed to say while avoiding eye contact. “Hey, what's wrong you don't look so good. Anything wrong? Is your dad sick again?” He could sense how uncomfortable Henry was, he was trying to tell him something but couldn't let out the words. “Alves, I… I need to tell you something.”“What happened to Khira?” He asked knowing it was definitely about his sister. “Khira, she's… She's dead!”*****Henry took Alves to the bush where his sister was shot, he had already narrated the whole story to him, leaving him in the pain of not seeing his sister's body “She was shot right here when I was running with her.” Trust me I tried to save her. I did.”“Do you remember the Doshikan soldier who tried to rape her and the one who shot her?” Alves bit his lips in anger. “I would know if I saw the man who tried to sleep with her. I hit him with a piece of wood and his helmet went off. But the one who shot her, I can't say cos we were running so fast.”“Why did this have to happen?”“I'm so sorry brother. I came back that day, tried to find her body but I couldn't. I feel so heartbroken too.”“Ah…” Alves lost himself to the sorrow, “No!” he fell down to his knees as the sky got darker. “It's going to rain brother, let's go home now. You might get sick.” Henry was caring. “The Doshikans have taken too much from us! Arman Butshaf has taken too much from the Westlands and everywhere around the world.” He slapped the wet sand repeatedly splashing the rain water which had started falling all over his body. “Alves, you need to hold yourself. Calm down.” Henry tried to hold him up but he resisted. He crawled on the floor to the spot he saw Khira’s bloodstains, fetched a palm full of the red sand and looked up to the sky. “Dear spirits of Westlands, I swear before you this day, I shall not rest until I avenge the death of my only sister. I will take down the Doshikans and their master, I will squeeze the life out of Arman Butshaf and all his dirty soldiers. He has taken too much from us, and now he has taken the wrong life.” He looked down to the bloody sand he had in his palm, then gave the final words. “Arman Butshaf, you shall pay!”“I accept to be the Bushika or whatever I have to be. I need the power to avenge the death of my sister. I will rise from being a common bread thief to the savior of the world!” Those were the last words of Alves to the people of Westlands during his goodbye speech. He bid farewell to them letting known his intentions of going in search of Arithayal, the wizard who was recommended to him by Trent Auriel, the first man he'd ever seen beheaded for doing nothing wrong. “Arithayal? Who's that?” some of the people around asked. “I know Arithayal, he's an old friend of mine.” An old woman said in the crowd. “I know exactly where you can find him. If your quest for vengeance will help us fight the tyranny of Arman Butshaf, then we would support you in anyway possible.” Citizens of the Westlands found hope in someone rising up to do what every man had been scared of doing in all the years past. They clapped and hailed young Alves as he walked out of the Westlands in search of knowledge from
“No one has ever survived a sting from the Kodrogo! I'm sorry Nhevia, but it seems your friend will surely lose his life!” An elderly man said to Nhevia who sat beside Alves, with a wet piece of fabric she used to clean his sweat periodically.“There's still life in him.” She insisted. “Yes, but how long before life goes out of him?” “Not before I get him to Arithayal”“What?” The man asked in shock. “Yes, the wizard will surely have a way of curing him with his magical powers.” “But that is a very long distance. His body is already heated up and I don't think he'll make it to the Eastlands.”“Should I rather sit and watch him die, or should I try and see how it goes? This man saved me without even knowing who I was. I would do the same for him.”“I hope the spirits protect you child.” The man offered his blessings then left the room. *****Water, food, a few clothes in a backpack, and Nhevia embarked on her journey to the Eastlands with Alves carefully tied at the back of the ho
Lord Arman Butshaf had just finished a cup of wine while at the dining table with his wife, Meredith. Being the most known and richest person in the world, it was normal for his breakfast to be a feast. “More wine!” He ordered, and a servant rushed with a jug full of red wine, pouring it carefully into his cup to avoid spilling it on the ground, or on the master. It was a big offence to spill drinks on the Almighty Lord Arman Butshaf. Servants were beaten, and if not lucky, beaten to death! “My Lord! News from the 43rd battalion has arrived” The voice of General Cenred put the breakfast to a pause as he approached Butshaf with a neat scroll in his hand. “Here my Lord.” He stretched the scroll forth to his master but Butshaf waved it away. “Just tell me what's in the letter Cenred.” He took a sip of the fine wine. “Sorry my Lord, my loyalty does not permit me to read letters directed specially to you. So I did not read this one.” Cenred took a step back, his hands crossed behind him
“Now that Arman Butshaf has put a bounty on your head, we have to act fast. We need to find a way of getting to his villa, and you can get close enough to kill him.” Wise words from Arithayal as he walked restlessly around the room. He knew there was no time. Word spread fast in the Eastlands and it could take less than two days before every bounty hunter comes looking for Alves. “When everyone hears that the tyrant is dead. The search for you will be over, because there will be no one to pay the bounty.” Nhevia said. “But how can we get to his villa? From what I've heard, it's the most protected place anyone has heard of.” Alves needed suggestions. Arithayal, his palms rubbing against each other, continued with his steps around the room as he spoke “Yes it's seriously guarded, there is only one known entrance into the villa. And only his most trusted General leaves the Villa whenever he wants to.” “His most trusted general? Who could that be?” Alves asked as though a thought just
“My Lord, we should kill him right now!” A soldier suggested as he rushed to grab Alves by his hands and tied them behind him. “No! Do not kill him yet. Perhaps he will be useful to me.” Arman smiled, his devilish eyes looking at Alves. “How stupid could you be to walk into my villa, pulling such a stunt? Huh? You think we're all dumb?” He sounded angrier. Lord Arman’s wizard went closer, “Why don't you want to kill this impersonator right now? He's proven to be dangerous, his aim was to make an attempt on your life.” “Let's talk somewhere private.” Butshaf said and they walked away from everyone, into the Lord's private chambers. “Listen to me, whoever had the magic to turn that young man into General Cenred must really be a great wizard. Such powers are not seen around everyday.” Arman began. “So what is your plan? My Lord.”“I and my wife have been unable to have a child. According to you, I have been cursed. So this powerful wizard might have the power to lift this curse. Or
“You good for nothing fools! How could you be here and let the prisoner escape!” Lord Arman screamed at the guards who were left to watch over Alves when he escaped. “We are very sorry. We were standing right here and all of a sudden, we lost consciousness. By the time we could know what was going on, the prisoner had already gone.” The guards pleaded. “You failed to do your duties and you shall pay with your lives. You shall die by hanging before night falls!”*****The hunt for Alves had become more intense after his unimaginable escape with the great wizard Arithayal. The reward for his capture was increased to a hundred and fifty thousand gold pieces, making the bounty hunters more aggressive. Jasper, a popular bounty hunter in the Eastlands moved around in the wilderness searching patiently to find the Bushika, he was a professional and his skills were praised among everyone. “What is that?” Jasper heard a sound, he stopped his movements and silently drew his sword as he looke
The joy of killing the dreadful beast was still present on their faces in the form of smiles. Alves and Nhevia prepared to leave with all the wood they had gathered in the basket. “This should be enough.” Alves said. “Yeah, let's go back. Arithayal might be awake from his ‘consportation’ it started yesterday right?”“Yeah, yesterday. Let's go!”As they both turned towards the direction leading back home, they heard a voice behind them. “Not so fast!” They quickly turned in shock only to see Jasper and his partner Pompey. “Hello Mr. Bushika and Mrs. Bushika, I hope this message finds you well, we kindly wish to kill you.” Pompey laughed while scratching his thick beard. “Who are you? And what do you want?” Nhevia asked, holding Alves’s hand, dragging him backwards away from the two men as they dangerously walked forward to them. “What do we want? Isn't it funny to ask that question considering the fact that you know too well, the Bushika is worth a hundred and fifty thousand piece
The arrival of Martha was unexpected but welcomed. What was the problem was her news about having a child with Arithayal the wizard. They all sat down in Arithayal’s house as they discussed more about the shocking news, giving all ears to Martha as she explained everything, taking them back to happenings in the past. “The two of you might not know me.” She started, referring to Alves and Nhevia. “I am a good friend to Arithayal, I wouldn't say we were just friends because we were doing alot of things that lovers do. We used to have sex, many times when I lived here in Eastland with my parents, I was nineteen and so in love with Arithayal here. Before my parents and I moved to Portland, I was pregnant but was scared of telling them or even Arithayal. So I left without ever letting you know that I carried your child inside of me.” “You disappeared from my life without giving me the slightest hint. You just Vanished. Why are you bringing this up after all these years?” Arithayal sound
