In a dark alley, two men in trenchcoats and suitcases were talking to each other in hushed tones to make sure no soul apart from them heard their conversations.

“What the fuck happened out there, Kay?” the taller one said with his eyes shifting in a different direction every second.

“I had her but then this dude comes out of nowhere and foils my plan.” Kay answered with a sigh.

“The fuck you mean foil your plan. It was a simple job. Get to her the minute she leaves the company and you put two or three bullets in her brains. Nothing complicated. A very simple mission. It’s like the classic way of dealing with threats. Now you’re telling me that you didn’t do it because of some guy? Who’s this guy? Thor the hammer waving god? Superman? You could have killed him and killed her. Given him the gun, let the police figure that shit out.”

“That would have been a silly move to make,” Jake answered from the shadows a few feet away from them as the men suddenly looked in his direction in fear.

“Who’s there?” Kay asked as he pulled out a gun and pointed to the dark.

“Chill out gentlemen,” Jake laughed. “I’m not here for trouble. I’m here to talk to you guys.”

“Hey, Tiger, he’s the one who sabotaged the mission,” Kay noted. “He’s the bastard I was telling you about.”

“Is that right?” Tiger chuckled. “If that’s so, you showing up here means you must be too stupid to know when you’re staring death in the face or you’re smart enough to want to explain who you work for and why you sabotaged our plans. You’d better make the reason good.”

“I just did it because I wanted to. And you two are going to regret crossing paths with me.”

Jake’s words would have sent shivers down their spine if they knew who he was but instead they were annoyed by his audacity.

“You’re outnumbered boy,” Kay smiled as he pointed his gun to Jake. “Let’s light him up.”

Tiger nodded but was still intrigued by Jake’s audacity.

“I’ll give you a chance to make this right by us,” he said. “Kill the women and maybe we won’t kill you now.”

“As a person not affiliated with any group, trust me, I do not kill people. And I’m not killing her.”

Kay sighed, “We could have been a great team.”

The two men, guns drawn, were ready to take him out.

***

Jake had the first strike when he kicked a rubber can towards the men which had them angry as they proceeded to open fire on him.

As the sound of gunfire shattered the silence, Jake's reflexes kicked into overdrive.

With the speed of a martial artist, Jake evaded the hail of bullets, his body moving fluidly between the shadows.

The pavement beneath him was littered with holes, bullets embedding themselves in the brick walls.

He hid behind a dumpster to avoid getting shot and waited until they had stopped firing.

That was when he heard them reloading, ready to take a second round at him.

Seizing the opportunity, Jake swiftly closed the distance between himself and the mafia men. In a blur, he disarmed Kay with a swift punch to the face, sending his weapon clattering to the ground.

Tiger, his face twisted with anger, swung his gun at Jake, but the man expertly dodged the blow, his movements impossible to detect.

With a little laugh, Jake unleashed a lot of heavy punches upon his enemies.

As he hit the men with everything within him, blood poured on the ground pooling around his feet.

The mafia men, once confident in their power, now found themselves at the mercy of a man they had severely underestimated.

Tiger picked up a metal bar on the ground to use on Jake but it only backfired when Jake punched the man away and broke a rib in the process.

Tiger, bloodied and bruised, lay gasping on the ground, his eyes filled with terror. "Please... spare me," he pleaded, his voice choking with pain. “Just leave me alone.”

Jake's gaze hardened as he looked down at his fallen opponent.

With a final crushing blow to Tiger’s throat he brought the man down.

Kay, his face filled with horror, watched as his friend met a brutal blow.

Fear clutched at his heart but he refused to be afraid of anyone or anything.

He got out a knife which had Jake seizing it and stabbing it into his leg.

“Don’t bring a knife fight to a martial arts fight.”

The man as screamed in pain and tried fighting back but he was too weak.

With a karate chop, Jake snuffed out the man’s consciousness.

“Well that was easy,” he smiled at how his skills had improved as he found a fallen cell phone on the ground. It wasn’t his own so it had to be from one of the mafia.

A voicemail from a number came in which caught his curiosity as he played it.

He heard the man’s voice but he didn’t know who owned it. However, through the voicemail, he knew there was a plan to kill off the heiress.

From the way the person talked, he knew it was someone within her family which made this all the more hilarious to him.

“Unfortunately guys, I don’t want her dead,” Jake said after dropping the cell phone in his pocket. “If you guys find her, that could ruin my plans and I don’t want that.”

He got out a knife to kill the men but held himself back.

He was a brutal man but not a killer.

With a sigh, he put the knife back in his pocket and got out his phone to call Camilla.

“Hello,” her dainty voice came over the phone in a quiet way.

“Oh hey,” he said excitedly. “It’s Micheal.”

“Oh,” she laughed. “Took you awhile to… did you consider my offer?”

“I’ll be taking the job.”
