On the same night that Daerys and Smaragdus returned from the end of the world, another group of men met with King Morrys. They also had an encounter with Zathryon, the red king.
Barely had the king watched the two men dissapear from his sight when those people emerged and made their way towards the throne room. Seven they were in number. When they came into clear vision, four of them were clearly soldiers who had come from warrior duty while the remaining three men looked as though they had just returned from hell. The royal guards would not have allowed such company entrance into the throne room, but for his majesty who said they could pass."What brings you here, all the way to the palace." He inquired. The leader of the group could be easily picked out using his special armour as judgement. He spoke for the men, "Your majesty, my men and I were keeping watch over the cave of shadows when these three crawled out of the earth. They say they had an encounter with Zathryon, the red".The king stared thoroughly at the three men in question. They looked tattered and miserable, with their faces bruised and their expressions pestilent. They wore the uniform of the dark spies of Meredith which was almost unrecognizable due to the blood and dirt that foiled its usually dark color."Speak". The king motioned to one of them who made a subtle bow before he began."We are the men sent by the Lord Roberts to check the cave where Zathryon was held for two hundred years", he said in a low audible voice."And what have you brought back as news?" The king demanded."Death, my lord! Death!" Another one of the dark spies spoke. He looked the most miserable of the three, and his voice shaked like someone who had just escaped the close claws of death."He shall come for us all! Very soon! None shall live! None shall live!" His voice loudened with each word he spoke, creating fear in the hearts of the guards and fury in the eyes of the king. And he kept repeating himself."Shut him up!" The king raged, "and lock him up. I have no place for soldiers with faint hearts!"Two palace guards stormed forward, and dragged the man away. As he was being carried out of the throne room, he kept on screaming, "Death! Death! None shall live! None shall live!"The king then turned again to the man who had spoken first, "Lord Roberts did send ten men to the cave of shadows, how is it that only you three have returned? Where is your captain? What is it you witnessed in that cave?""All ten of us made it to the cave of shadows, but only we three made it out." The man continued, "We could not even see it, the beast that slayed our comrades. It was like..a shadow that came and went again, pulling down a man at every visit." There was an ice cold sensation in his words as he tried to create an imagery of his experience."Our captain died while saving one of our men. The soldier was being dragged away by a figure in the darkness but the captain held on to him, and kept pushing his sword into the darkness."I was watching from the cave entrance as I had almost found my way out. Vagus, the man who your majesty has just locked up was beside me, and that was when we saw its eyes. Burning red eyes of death! In the midst of all that darkness, staring at our captain! It is the most terrifying thing I have ever seen, so it is for Vagus too, and I am certain it could not have been any different for the captain."What happened afterwards is unspeakable my lord, and I couldn't dare to watch it to finish."As he concluded his words, he shook his head emphatically.King Morrys took a deep breath at these words, and composed himself from the news. His son had just come back from an encounter with Zathryon at the end of the world, and at the same time these people claimed that Zathryon attacked them in the cave of shadows.Could that beast appear in two places at once?"When did this occur?" The king asked with a striking gaze."It is almost a fortnight, your majesty." The leader of the group who brought them replied the king. "I could not take them to the palace as there was a plague. Thus I waited to see that they didn't have the burning sickness."Now it made some sense. The red one could have left for the end of the world after facing off Lord Rivers' dark spies. That was why Jordan the blacksmith said that he bled. But even then, how could he journey to the end of the world in such a short amount of time?As the king wandered in thought, a golden pigeon arrived at the royal palace bearing a message for the king.It was from the wizard, Ul Thera. He had received the request of the kings to come to Meredith.King Morrys requested of the dark spies to dwell in the royal palace for now. Then the royal council will listen to them again the following day. After the men had gone, the king tore open the paper to read its contents. It was a rare thing for wizards to write letters, so he wondered what the wizard had to say."Your Majesty,The wizards of the reach have sent to me a message saying that the gates of Meredith, which was forever closed to us wizards, have once again bestowed upon us its shelters. That the great house of Arnold have finally beseeched our service after all these years. And that I, Ul Thera, am the first one of my kind upon whom this honor is returned. To this I felicitate. But that is not why I write to you, my old friend. The storm clouds seem to be a little closer than we thought. And the waves have began to push, threatening to sink our lot.A warning comes unto you from the witch mother Marina herself. She warns of a danger within the walls of the royal palace. A certain fire that might burn away the royal seat.Never you accept a visitor to reside in your palace. Those are her words. As of this moment, I journey to you but this writing is sure to reach you ahead of me.Till we meet again. It is I.Ul Thera,Your old friend."Squeezing tight his palms against the letter, Morrys sighed deeply.Of what danger does Ul Thera speak? Is it something to do with Zathryon?Whatever it was, King Morrys resolved not to welcome any man into the royal palace from that moment onwards.Little did he know that the letter had come late.As the princess took her seat on her royal spread, she turned her angry eyes at Cynthy."Is it true what Daerys said?"Her voice was sour and her gaze was not friendly, forcing the maid to keep down her face as she muttered with fear the word yes.Cynthy had been Daella's maid since the day she came into the palace. She gained the princess' favor quicker than any other person, becoming her most preferred servant just a few months after she entered the palace. They took to each other well, and Daella trusted her so much that she spoke to her of her every fear and worry. She told everything to Cynthy, keeping nothing from her but it was not the same on the other hand.Cynthy, on the other hand, could not speak to the princess of her biggest desire, her greatest worry and her deepest emotion. She had fallen in love with Prince Daerys the moment she became a palace maid, but the place of a servant lies not by the side of a prince. Neither do the yearns of the heart pay heed or respect
"Halt! Halt!""Protect the king! Slay the beasts!"The palace was in chaos! The men of the dark spies had become dark agents of the red king! They grew fangs and claws, roared like wild beasts and attacked everyone in their way.It seemed that the warning of the witch mother Marina had truly come late. Over the sea on the isle of witches, the waters shook and the earth rumbled. The bats flew in unison away towards Meredith, and a wild wind blew all over the isle.In the prophecy room, the young witches were terrified at the rain that fell and the thunder that struck. "Mother! Mother! It rains in the room!" They flew in fear to meet their teacher. The witch mother knew at once that the abominable had occurred."If the gods would have it, the royal seat of Meredith shall burn this night!" She uttered bitterly."His majesty?" The young witches looked around at each other in despair."Prepare the waters!" Marina commanded."Do you plan for his burial?" Asked Teresa, the second in author
As the night went away paving way for another morning, the remaining red beasts moved in their numbers away from the palace. No one knew where they headed, and no one even thought of following after them. The king had been attacked on the grounds of his own palace. His own blood stained his royal clothing. It was a disrespect to royalty! The king was taken by his men to the royal physicians and as he went with them, he commanded for the General Arthogan. The bite could never turn him wild because of the kind of blood in his veins, but it could be enough to kill him. Vagus would have bitten the life out of his majesty no doubt if not for the valor of the prince who did the needful.Daerys fret for a moment when he discovered that the red one he fought was Cynthy's father, but he could never stand and watch while anyone attacked his father. Thus He did the needful. The maid herself felt deep resentment as her father's dead wild body lay before her.Her father had always been loyal t
General Arthogan was on his way to the royal palace to inform the king of an important situation that had taken place at the borders when the screams of people caught his attention.Traders could be seen running helter skelter here and there. Turmoil ruled the markets of Meredith. "What has happened?" He wondered as he rode on his horse with his men behind him. Then suddenly, a group of strange people could be seen striding towards their position, attacking and biting everyone in their way. Some of them were clothed in the uniform of the royal guards, some in the dresses of commoners, and some in the dark spy uniform."General! Beware! It is the work of the red king!" The voice came from among the troubled crowd, alerting the general and his men to draw their swords. But the wild beasts were not interested in an encounter, they all seemed to be in a haste to go somewhere. Ignoring the battle ready soldiers, they made into a nearby bush and pushed towards the highlands."Where are the
"Father, what was so urgent that you had to leave through the beam room?" Gaz Zitron asked as his father appeared back in the house of mystery. He was the guardian of that house, alongside the Ar wizards. A house where magical objects resided, where the souls of grand wizards slept, and where the beam portal was housed. Everything it contained was magic, delirious magic which made hearts to thump for joy. If any man could lay his hands on those objects, he would rule the world. Meaning that only the wizards could keep them safe.Deep within those mountains, keeping everything out of reach, and leaving nothing of its magic for the greedy world, the reach of wizards was the seat of mystery. "The witches have undone what the gods had done." Gaz Zillus walked out of the mystery house and Zitron followed after his father."What will happen now?" Gaz Zitron asked."They are the ones who see the future, not us." Zillus replied as he went closer to the door in his way. Pulling it open, it
Percival followed closely after the wild men that broke out from the palace, curious of their destination. Leading the other men, he took a big, risky leap every now and then, almost selling himself away to the red ones. When they got to a point, the men were climbing up a high rocky hill. The soldiers decided to wait till the they had all climbed before they climbed after them. But Percival did not agree. "We shall lose them," he said. And with that, he jumped against the high hill and climbed closely below the wild ones while the others watched from a distance. All was going well and there was only one last demon left climbing above Percival. The wild man had almost climbed to the top and Percival was climbing right below him. As the man reached the top and rose to its two feet, his red eyes were fixed on the boy. Turning his head in different angles, he scowled and screeched, drawing the attention of the others towards their direction.Percival knew he was in trouble, and the othe
The General had reached the palace already with the rest of his men. Making his entrance into the throne room with his son, Smaragdus, he found that the king was not on his throne while every single lord was present."Where is his majesty?" He demanded as soon as he made his salute to the lords."His majesty still lives!" The primelord assured the general who seemed to be scared of the worst possible news. "He is with the physicians"."Bless the gods", the general took his seat among the lords. "Why has the king called for me?" He demanded."The end of the world". Primelord Benifer started. "You should assemble soldiers. According to Prince Daerys, there hides Zathryon with his dark powers. A coward he is afterall. His majesty wants you to strike him in his hiding".The general listened to the words of the primelord with patience. Then he asked, "Is this the order of his majesty?"As the primelord made to reply the general, he was interrupted by the familiar annoying voice of Daella.
As soon as the announcement was made, the air in the throne room altered in depth and feel. The murmurs migrated away, and the tension faded into expectation. All eyes turning to where the voice had come, silence crept in as the figure approached the door.As Ul Thera stepped into the royal edifice of Meredith, he felt a shift in his own resolution. The feelings that came upon him were not alien, but were long lost in the deepest compartments of his soul.Looking round at the old familiar faces that arraigned at each side of the room, their lines almost as long as its entire length, he made his way in slowly with his three legs; for he had his staff right by his side."Guardian of the red orb!" The primelord called, "How long has it been?""Long enough to witness the return of the red one". Ul Thera saluted the lords and historians, then he turned to the high thrones. "Where is the king?""He still receives care from the physicians." Daerys responded. Lord Rivers added to the prince'
The tension has sparkled to tall heights within the hearts of Percival and Agnos, the son of the undying witch. Together, they sought to know what Daella had in the dark with the red king. "We should find out what it is they are discussing." Percival said as soon as he had pulled Agnos to his side, away from Brienne the beauty. But that did not stop the tavern girl from scooping her ears onto the most quiet air around her, just in case their secret words would escape in her direction."This is our chance to succeed in this quest. If we find a way to know his plans from here, it may save us the journey of a thousand miles." It was true what Percival perceived. Zathryon may be helping them by his being in that place. What if he would spill his evil ambitions against the king's army in that one meeting? Then the prince and the general, with the rest of their men might be able to return with their lives."You believe that the princess is a part of his plans?" Agnos murmured, still bewild
"My heart is blessed to another. There is none of it you can own". Daella said into the red face of Zathryon.Zathryon released a slight smile, reaching his face again into the cup lifted before him. He could sense her heart burning with rage for him, and he wondered why she was still seated before him."Why have you not told the world about me?" He asked her. "Your father, his lords and soldiers. A word from you and your people may stand a chance in defeating me. Believe me, if I am dead, my cause is too. My demons will not fight without my command. And no command shall I give with my head off my shoudlers"."But will you actually stay dead?" She returned to him a question in place of an answer after which the red king wore a pink smile. Then Daella proceeded, saying, "When I put you down, you will never again be able to rise. It will be forever."Her words would indulge a rustle of fear in the heart of any person especially with the way she chose to utter them. But Zathryon was not
The mother of witches stood before the huge waves of the ocean, staring into their vastness as though she could see the future written in their ever rising currents.Behind her was her closest sister, Teresa the second in rank of the witches. Or the second sister as they were called. Teresa knew very well what Marina was thinking about. She knew her so well that she could almost read her mind."The princess of Meredith". Teresa started, taking her place beside Marina and joining her in the sight seeing of the waters. "What will you do about her?"The waters raised to huge heights and dropped again with force, letting away huge splashes and smashes. The waves kept roaring with the wind, but none a single drop was fierce enough to cast a daint on the clothings of the two witches."She has brought these evils upon us, but the waters show us nothing of her future. We know not what problems she shall bring upon us next." Teresa continued. "Her mother once was a bone in our necks of ice, an
Daella walked up the stairs with her face closed to the ground. She did not expect that she would encounter Percival at this tavern."What has he come to do here?" She wondered, climbing up the stairs. He came so close to seeing her face when she collided with him. That would have been a disaster; No one should know that she was meeting with anybody today. As she appeared before him, her host pointed to her a place before him to sit."Please, princess. Sit". He said, rising to pull the little chair before her table so she could sit. After that, he returned to his own place opposite Daella."The entire kingdom is on the lookout for you. My father has developed sleepless nights and my brother is riding with an army to fight you. But you are here, within the sniff of our own noses, drinking and smiling as if all is well". She began, staring in his red eyes."But all is well". He replied. "The wine here is good. The air is nice too. And I have become more popular with the women of Meredit
While the witches paid their last respect to Ircane, her body laid within her cave of flowers. Her son Agnos sat beside it in tears while Percival stood by his side, consoling his loss. Her body now lay beside the little stream of water that flowed in the cave, adorned by the flowers she had nurtured for all her years. There she would stay for years to come without decay.Ircane's body had vanished mysteriously from Ghosti'dor the moment she breathed her last. Anyone would have thought it was the work of Ul Thera, but the wizard was no where to be found.Agnos had thought that his mother would return with the wizard who was his father by her side for he did not know his name nor could he recognize his face. But what he got was only disappointment. His mother, who was supposed to have learnt the art of immortality, dead before him. No wizard, no father. He was now completely alone in his world of mystery. Not completely alone anyway. Percival put a hand on his shoulder."I'm sorry th
In Hayden, Cynthy had almost lost her dear life. She barely escaped from the magical grips of the tall and powerful man who tried to prevent her from entering her new life of freedom. He had appeared from nowhere and offered her revenge."The king of Meredith is neither just nor grateful," he had said. "Is he not deserving of punishment?"A question to which she could not find a voice to reply since her strength was numb and her tongue seemed tied by whatever magical powers this man possessed."Oh! Do you want to decline my offer? I know that the desire for revenge still dominates your heart from within. Why must you deprive yourself of such justice?"She struggled to look in his eyes. His magic had a stronger hold than the thickest chains. And she mumbled, forcefully but audibly. "L-o-v-e".Zathryon chuckled. "Oh love, our excuse for being weak. You know, I also believe in love. In truth, I have a lover among your kind. But at the same time, I know of some good ways through which lov
The princess woke up from another nightmare. She had kept awake all night, falling into a dreamy land of despair each time she fell asleep. At this point, she could no longer keep count of how many dreams she had had tonight.Sitting up on her bed, she checked around for her dear maid but then she remembered. Cynthy would have been by her side the moment she jumped off from bed. She missed her so much at this point. To make matters worse, her last nightmare was all about the maid herself. In her dream, she saw her friend in Hayden, struggling with the pains of death. Bitten by a particularly powerful red demon, she only escaped by the breadth of a needle string. And as she stumbled around the city, unaware of her destination, night robbers got in her way, carting away with the gold the prince had given to her.No one helped her, and she was lying behind an old tavern, dying slowly. It was at this point that Daella woke up. She had no idea why she had seen so many things in her dreams
Over the cold waters on the isle of the witches, the trees mourned for the death of the undying witch. The witches felt a force like never before, rushing against their heart and telling them that they had just lost one of their own. They knew what had happened, but they could not help but be suprised."I know I am supposed to hate her, but isn't she an epitome of witchery? Who knew Ircane never left this world until now? Such a powerful witch she was! The heavens shall sing her name!". Teresa exclaimed in awe or respect. Marina was by her side as she said these things and to the witch mother, Teresa's words were far from truth. The witch mother had always known that the undying witch still lived. That Ircane was always alive within the walls of Meredith which in perfect irony was the worst place for a witch to hide her face. She could always feel her powerful presence anytime she used the power of the isle. Whenever she commanded the waters or used the plants. Ircane's aura always fo
Once upon a long time ago when men were boys, when the old was young and when the wise was foolish, Soatio the great chief of the night fell in love with Ircane the undying witch. She came to him as a priestess, eyes dazzling like the shine of the evening stars. Hers was the most beautiful face he had ever beheld. He could not help but think that all his motives in life were encompassed in her life with him.He thought that her white face was all that the blackness of his skin required. That her balls of light would balance his whorls of darkness. That her love was all he needed and all his dreams would be fulfilled. This he believed to his heart, but she was no goddess to make true his wishes. She never bore the same affection that he endured. In the end, she was only a witch who had come to him to learn a secret that can only be found in Ghosti'dor. He gave her everything she asked for and the ones she could not mention. She used him so much, and she used the secrets she stole from
