After returning home, Alice quickly locked the door to her room and excitedly hopped into bed, turning on her Xbox. As soon as it was switched on, she felt herself being sucked into the game and suddenly found herself in an unfamiliar forest. A hologram of an adult woman appeared before her.
"Hello, Player! Welcome to the Death Game. Please set your name and your password." Another hologram then materialized between them. "We also need your fingerprints and we will take your biometric authentication for security. All your data will be safe without third parties knowing."
Alice typed in her name and password into the holographic square in front of her. The hologram also performed an iris scan for identification.
“Thank you so much, Alice Haley. My name is Megan. I am an AI created by The Hidemask to perfect this game. If you ever need help or have any questions, just call my name. I'd be more than happy to assist you.”
"Just like the human world, the Death Game has vast, beautiful, and dangerous places. You can find both friendly and hostile creatures in this game. You'll also be able to meet other players. There are lots of hidden spots with hidden rewards inside. But be careful, you might put your life at risk and possibly die in this world. I'm sure you'll love it!" Megan said with a cheerful tone.
"Hahaha, alright!" Alice said with a laughing smile.
Alice took Megan's words as a joke and smiled mischievously.
"Do you have any questions, Alice?"
Alice chuckled, “Do you have a boyfriend?"
"I am an AI. I am not designed to have a boyfriend."
Alice pouted. She thought that the AI in front of her was too serious and couldn't take a joke.
"If you don't have any other questions, allow me to explain the terms and conditions of this game."
"You have 30 starting points which can be exchanged for weapons, disguises, skills, or abilities. Each item is worth 5 points, so you will lose 5 points every time you exchange something. You can also gain extra points by completing missions. If your points are depleted, you can continue playing as long as your life still exists.”
"You have 5 lives here. Unlike the points you can get by doing missions, you can't increase your life by doing anything, but other people can give theirs to you. So, if you lose all your lives, then you will die. Make sure you use it wisely! Do you understand?"
"Well, yeah!" Alice nodded in understanding.
"Great! Let's set a costume for you. What costume do you want?"
The hologram displayed thousands of different types of female avatars, from princesses, businesswomen, schoolgirls, cyborgs (half-robot humans), etc. While scrolling through the different avatar views, Alice's eyes fell on an avatar wearing emerald green pants and a pine-colored cape with a tailcoat. She thought this particular color combination was perfect for camouflage in the forest.
"I choose this one!" Alice declared.
Five points were deducted.
"Good choice, Alice! What weapon do you want to have?"
Alice furrowed her brows in thought.
Seemingly reading her thoughts, Megan readily suggested, "You can take any weapon you want. If you don't know how to use it, you can buy the skill with your points."
"Yes, you're right!" Alice quickly touched a bow and arrow.
Alice had been interested in archery since she was a child, but her parents refused to let her take any archery courses. Instead, they enrolled her in a science course she loathed.
"What a great choice!" Alice sighed to herself.
"Do you want to add another item?" Megan asked.
"Umm... I don't think so," Alice answered, shaking her head.
"Okay. I will send you on a mission," Megan said.
"Wait! I thought I was on a mission?!" Alice asked in confusion.
"You are still in Alice setting mode. I will send you on a mission for the ActivatedLand," Megan explained.
"May I know what my mission is?" Alice asked nervously.
"Sorry, Alice. I can't tell you. You will find out what your mission is in the game. Such are the rules. I thought you'd read our entire guidebook," Megan said with a frown.
"Oh, yeah... that's ummm... I forgot about this part."
Alice muttered, trying to cover up her lies. Even though she hadn't read the manual at all. Just then, a two-meter-tall oval-shaped portal appeared in front of them.
"Please come in, Alice. Have fun playing!" Megan said with a smile.
Alice walked towards the portal with a pounding heart and then entered it. As soon as she stepped through, her eyes darkened. She felt as if her body was on a bed falling into an abyss. Until finally a white light slowly appeared to illuminate her and made her open her eyes.
Alice opened her eyes and was surprised to find herself in Seoul, South Korea, at night. Players were arriving and leaving through portals one after the other. She spotted one of the boys pressing a hologram in his hand, and then a portal appeared in front of him. The boy stepped into the portal and disappeared. Alice quickly checked her hands, and sure enough, there was a watch-shaped hologram embedded in her skin.
"Fuck! Megan didn't say anything about this!" she grumbled in confusion.
"Please let me go!"
The sound of a woman's desperate cries caught Alice's attention. She looked over and saw a man, who appeared to be the head of a gangster, dragging a woman away from a nightclub.
"Don't! Don't do that to me!" the woman shouted while crying.
But it seemed the gangster man didn't care about the girl's pleas. He even deliberately tore off her clothes and made her half-naked. The man laughed happily in front of the crying, pitiful girl. Alice, who saw this, couldn't stand it and was about to approach, but suddenly two other men appeared from inside and laughed too. Alice realized that if she fought them, she wouldn't stand a chance even with all the points she had exchanged for strength and abilities.
She looked around and noticed that everyone seemed strangely indifferent to the incident. She shouted and scolded everyone for not helping the girl, but unfortunately, no one paid attention to her words.
"What the hell is this place?!"Alice muttered to herself in frustration. She then approached a man who was eating ramen outside a small restaurant.
"Hey, there's a woman who is being harassed. Help her!" she pleaded.
The man ignored Alice and continued to eat his ramen.
"Hey!" Alice banged on the table, almost making the man's bowl of ramen fall to the ground.
"What do you want, huh?!" the man asked in annoyance.
"Look at that woman! She needs help. Everyone here is crazy and completely devoid of empathy! Help her," Alice said desperately.
The man slammed his chopsticks onto the table and stood up angrily.
"Why don't you just help her? After all, that woman was here for a reason! She's run out of lives and is risking her life for extra ones!" the man explained.
Alice was taken aback by his explanation."Wait! Are you a new player?" he asked, looking at her curiously. Alice was horrified. She took a few steps back, her eyes still glued to the man in front of her. Without another word, she turned around and ran as fast as she could.
"Hey, wait!" the man called after her. Alice ignored him and kept running. Suddenly, she heard gunshots as she collided with something, and then everything turned into the dark.
Alice woke up with a sharp pain in her head that made her cry out in pain. As the pain subsided, she realized she was in a simple bamboo house. Alice looked around; the 4 by 5-meter room was decorated with simple items made from natural materials and neatly arranged. Alice slowly got up and walked out of the room. The same view she got when she looked outside the larger room, but the difference was that in front of her was a kitchen. Simple kitchen utensils made of stone, bamboo, wood, and clay were neatly arranged. But her attention was focused on one thing, namely the food ingredients arranged on a wooden table that had been cut into pieces. As if someone was cooking. Alice looked around, but she couldn't find anyone. "Hello! Is anybody here?" Nobody answered her. "Oh my God, where am I?" Alice grumbled while sitting by the burning stove. A clay pot filled with water was burning on top of it, giving off a delicious puff of smoke that made her stomach growl. Alice was very hungry a
Alice fell into a standing position with her legs holding her up. The teleportation circle had brought her to the front of a small bar called Santa Monteza. She had also put on the clothes she had chosen the first time. "Where am I?" Alice pressed her left arm and a virtual map appeared. "El-Paso, Mexico?" Alice was shocked! She didn't expect that she would teleport this far. As she looked around, she found nothing strange. Just people going about their normal activities just like in the real world. Alice walked into the bar. She went to the order table. "Hello, little ladies. What's your order?" said the big old man who was bartending. "May I get a tequila?" "Sure! Take a seat. I will make one for you." Alice honestly had no money at all. She was at a loss as to how she was going to pay him. But even more confusing was what would happen to her next. "Here you go, girl!" said the fat man as he handed her a glass of tequila. "Thanks." Alice drank the tequila in one gulp. It
Alice walked out of the cave leaving Matias and Mr. Diaz, the old blacksmith. Matias couldn't take her to where the wolves were, because no one knew for sure where they were hiding. However, Father Santiago managed to draw a map the night before he was found dead with his internal organs bursting out. All the villagers believed that Father drew the map for a reason. This is because Sister Anne saw Father praying for several nights in the church basement without stopping. Father also dreamed several times of a travel route that led him to a place where the Lycan horde was located. The hot weather made Alice stop her journey several times. Unfortunately, she had no proper place to take shelter. Thankfully, after a long journey, she saw a forest area. The map line was heading that way! Alice smiled excitedly. Soon, she would leave that cursed place. Or maybe a little longer. There was only a quarter of water in her bottle. She hoped that she could find a river or spring in the forest la
"Did you come here by yourself?" asked Nephilim as he ate the roasted partridge. The giant ate the partridge with gusto. "Yeah," answered Alice. Nephilim turned to Alice, "I think you have good skills. Why don't we form a team and hunt together? Partridges run very fast, it's not easy to kill alone." Alice looked up to stare at Nephilim's face. He was a nice giant, but quite aggressive. With his large body and long strides, it would not be difficult for him to subdue the game. "Alright. I agree." Alice threw the chicken bone in her hand, "Do you know the animal language?" " Of course." "Try calling them out!" Nephilim took a deep breath and made a sound similar to that of a trumpet. But the sound it made was so much louder that it made Alice cover her ears. Shortly after, several birds flew above them. "Whoa! You're amazing." Nephilim smiled, "Thank you." "Why don't you use your skills to catch partridges? You can easily hunt other animals too." "Unfortunately, my voice can
Alice woke up when she heard a growl quite close to her ear. Slowly her eyes caught sight of a large wolf. Suddenly it made Alice flinch and move backwards. "Stay away from me!" The gray-furred wolf stared even more intently at Alice while baring his fangs. His red eyes looked at Alice with hatred. Saliva dripped with every step as it got closer to Alice. Realizing that her position was in danger, Alice immediately stood up and pulled out the sword at her waist. The silver sword was given to her by Matias. "I dare you, asshole!" The wolf seemed to be challenged, he let out a long howl and then ran quickly to pounce on Alice. But Alice who was skillful was soon able to quickly dodge her. But he did not give up. He turned around and attacked a second time. Alice swings her sword and successfully cuts the wolf's chest. Flaming blue blood poured out of its body. The wolf howled in pain. NO! That was not a howl of pain. But it was calling out to his pack. Alice immediately approache
"What's going on?" Jean showed a small pack of white powder in his hand. "Heroin," Jean said. "What?" Caesar doesn't believe. "This girl looks for her." How can girls who are still in school use heroin? "Where do you get this thing?" Jean said while showing objects in his hand. The girl was still silent and instead looked away. "I said, where do you get this?!" Jean began to be angry. The girl in front of him glanced with a feeling of fear. "From my friend." "Who?" "Alebra from the twelfth grade." "Show me!" Jean took over the girl, holding his right hand. "You forward to my investigation, I'll be looking for a child named Aldebra."
Joe immediately contacted Jean using the code through the walkie-talkie on the left-back. Saying that suspended ran over the fence behind the school. Joe quickly ran down. They immediately entered the car and headed behind the school. They walked along the road and the alley behind the school. Jean's eyes did not stop looking around and hoped to find the boys who escaped. After an hour around, there are still no signs of his existence. They have lost traces. "It's better if we go back to school and hope that the teacher hasn't come home," Jean advises. Joe immediately turned around back to school. Right when they get at the gate, Mrs. Carey's Car just wanted to come out. Seeing the two police officers back, Mrs. Carey rushed down from the car and approached them. "How's Going?" "We can't find him. Can I ask his address?" Joe asked. <
Marco sat in the interrogation room with handcuffs tied to his hands. He smiled disdainfully at the two policemen in front of him. The time he couldn't dodge it at all, all the evidence was on him. Starting from the evidence found in the anonymous e-mail to the testimony given by his brother. "Then what? You want to imprison me?" "Absolutely! You've killed a teenager. And that means you're in trouble with the law," Alex replied. "I did it because I needed the money!" "I won't blame you if you're in debt with the bookies. But eliminating someone for money is a crime," Tom said. "I know. But I can't do anything! I need that money to pay my loan! A cop like you won't know what it's like to be terrorized all the time. He threatened to hurt my girlfriend if I didn't pay the debt. I just took the opportunity. " &nb
