Chapter Four

The hospital was bustling with morning activities and emergency sirens blowing everywhere. The nurses and doctors were running and rushing around with patients on the rolling bed.

"Thank you, please sit in the available seat." The receptionist nurse said to a patient while giving her the hospital card that she had paid for.

Richester exhaled heavily as he came out of a hospital room with Doctor Frank.

"Watch without doing anything, you won't listen. Do you need me to report you again?" Doctor Frank yelled at his face as he snatched the file in his hand and left into the hallway.

Beads of sweat were already formed on Richester's forehead. He has been feeling cranky since morning, especially since the system had given him a task that he must accomplish. He felt as though he was already losing an organ since there was no progress in his mission.

He walked over to the nearby hospital water heater and poured some water into a disposable cup. He was about to drink it when he noticed a pregnant woman crying in a corner.

"This is my chance, right?" He quickly gulped the water and strolled over to the woman.

She was sitting on the waiting bench with no one paying attention to her. She looked pitiful judging by her current state, the orange maternity gown she had on looked really weird.

"Are you okay, lady?" He passed her a cup of water which she received while sobbing.

"Oh? Why are you crying?" He was surprised to see her crying in broad daylight with no shame.

"I'm sorry if I disturb you." She cleaned her eyes with the back of her hand and he ruffled his pocket before bringing out a handkerchief.

"Use this." He forced out a smile.

Inwardly he was excited. His mission was to help the needy, if he could help this woman it would be to his own advantage since she needed it.

"Thank you." The woman muttered as she cleaned her eyes with the handkerchief.

"What is the problem? Why are you left unattended?" He asked her out of curiosity as some doctors passed without paying attention to her.

She had an old hospital card in her hand.

"I… I wanted to do a scan to know the state of my baby. Last week, the doctor told me that I lost one of the twins. I'm anxious to know if the other is doing fine." She began explaining her plight to him while he listened without interrupting her.

"But the hospital card is too expensive and none of the doctors wants to attend to a poor pregnant woman. I'm scared that I might lose my babies." She raised her voice again as tears began to roll from her eyes, Richester shook his head sadly.

"I will help you." He said.

"As what?" The feminine voice brought him back to reality and reminded him of his rightful position.

"Ma'am…" it was his wife yet he had no guts to refer to her as wife in public, he lowered his head.

"Keep shut! If she has no money, she should leave! Does it look like we are running a charity organization here?" She spat at his face in dissatisfaction and he shook his head.

"No.. but it seems she needs help since…" he wanted to explain the situation to her but she shunned him notwithstanding.

"If you are so idle, you can as well help the janitors in keeping this place clean." She informed him curtly.

"Stella, I'm only doing what is right." He finally got his voice and she chuckled in mockery.

"Oh? Then pay for her treatment rather than solicit for her! Don't forget that you are a broke ass without my mother, you dickhead." She screamed at him in anger before shoving him apart.

He exhaled sharply and faced the woman thinking the storm was over but Stella stopped and turned backward.

"And if you don't want me to embarrass you or that lady any further, get her out of here." That was her last command as she left into the elevator looking like a she-devil.

"I'm sorry, miss. I can't help you today." He frowned, picked up his file and left the lonely woman who had no choice but to leave the hospital without treatment.

Stella didn't allow Richester to join any of the rides home thus he had to use the subway and walk back home.

He was so exhausted and tired, the system kept on flashing in his eyes and brain that he had few hours left else his punishment would be massive.

He sighed heavily as he fell on the cold bed while staring at the window. He came back late and missed supper thus he was about to sleep with an empty stomach but the sobbing sound that came from the window disrupted his sleep.

He stood up and walked over to the window, he noticed some rustling movement happening a few meters away from their mansion. He was anxious and confused at the same time because he knew what might happen to them if they woke Stella up. He changed into some comfortable clothes and went downstairs to see what was happening.

"What do I do now? We can't keep walking on this endless road." The haggard looking man complained sorrowfully to his wife whose head had sustained an injury and was bleeding.

"Who's there?" He honked and flashed the trafigator at them as he reduced the driving speed.

"Please help… my wife, she's bleeding." The man struggled to speak as he was too tired.

Richester saw how messy the situation was, it was a lifetime opportunity for him since he still had a few hours left.

"Get her inside the car." He started the engine and drove back to the hospital.

This time, he was willing and determined to save the man's wife.

They stopped at the hospital and were about to enter the main ward when the guard rushed him.

"You can't go in!" The guard grabbed the edge of the rolling bed.

"What do you mean? She is dying." Richester informed him seriously.

"They have been here before. Mrs. Stella denied them treatment because they have no money. I'm sorry, I can't let them in." The guard explained rashly in a curt tone.

"But this is someone's life we are talking about here." He tried to convince the stoic looking guard.

"And do you have the right or knowledge to save someone?" The nurse who was working overnight snorted as she approached the receptionist counter.

"They can't be treated here."? The nurse added.

The woman's head was bleeding heavily and Richester knew what would happen next. He wanted to save the poor woman and also accomplish his task.

"I will treat them without any charge." He said confidently and they exchanged weird stares.

"I will also bear the consequences of Mrs. Stella." He said vividly as he pushed through the guard and left into an empty hospital room with the patient.
