Chapter 2

The words swamped Eddie away from reality as flashes of his past were recollected in his memories.

Days where his father was so objective about him having anything to do with the study of medicine even when that was the only place that he saw himself.

Forced to go through the hectic lifestyle of the most influential business school in the city, he dropped his certificate in his father's hands immediately after his graduation.

“This is what you wanted. Now you can have it and I will change my dream.“ He could still remember those stale words that he left his home with.

Went over to the best master on the planet to learn marital acts and medicine until he became the best.

But then, it didn't end well. A lady died in his hands and his master stripped him of his right to practice medicine.

'Still sure that father had something to do with it.'

And to think that his father suddenly needed his medical skills, he never thought that this day would come.

But this was his father's life they were talking about. No matter how much resentment he had for the old man, he was never going to feel at peace watching him die when he could have always saved his life.

'Sighed.'

“And how can I get to see him?“ Eddie inquired.

“I will forward the address to you right away .“ Mr. Diego replied and the call ended abruptly

Soon, a beeping sound came from the phone with the address of his father.

In the taxi for some weird reason, his heart was unstable as he continued to pair through the window.

Seeing his father on his sick bed was going to be something really strange for him. Since he had never been attached to his father.

‘'But he was right after all. Love doesn't exist in this world.”

Walking into the hospital, he was hit by a strange scent, unlike a hospital environment. Something was wrong.

It was as though all the patients had been moved away, without even a single trace of life. Confusion flooded his head as he didn't know what was going on.

His feet made their way towards the man who was standing at the far end of the reception.

“I'm looking for Mr. Modrick Maxwell.“ He said to him, waiting patiently for an answer.

“I wonder where it is that you are from that too can't even pronounce Fredrick correctly.“ Jace, the receptionist hissed loudly.

“And how do you want to see the billionaire? You are a nobody so what do you want.“

Just then, a voice came right from behind like the piercing clap of lightning.

“Isn't the personal cleaner around already?“ Eddie could sense the deep manly voice even though the face was not visible to him

The receptionist shot a glance at Eddie with a scornful look still hovering on his bearded face.

“Now I understand where you can come from.“ His face twisted with so much disgust.

Eddie was about to explain that he was not the cleaner but he would not allow him to spit out a single word out of his mouth.

“Taking a bucket and a mop and shivering it into his hands, he shot a weak stare at him.

“Do a great job and that's if you don't want to end up looking like the others.“ He replied.

“Room 2.“ He was still staring at the mob and the bucket lying right in his hands and to his surprise, it was the same as his father's.

“I'm going to deal with you when I am back but right now, I will be back for you.“ Eddie muttered under his breath.

But walking into the room, he noticed that it was walking into the room, he noticed that it was empty.

Confusion flooded his mind as he continued to stare at the empty space, trying to figure things out in his head.

Suddenly, his phone made a beeping sound once again.

“I am sorry young Master, I was in so much of a panic that I wrote the wrong details.“ It read.

“Shit.“ A word came out from his lips as he tossed the stuff angrily to the floor.

Voices filled his head as it seemed as though someone was being moved into the hospital then his nostrils met with the killer scent that almost zipped out the breath from his lungs.

Someone was poisoned and dying.

He could recognize those scents even in his dreams. The doctors surrounded the old man with the strollers as a support.

The dark scorpion poison was an ancient poison that was created over fifty thousand years ago. A curse that his master had fought against and thought that it had already gone extinct.

'How come it was back so soon? Who might be so powerful enough to get the poison and administer it so perfectly.' Questions ran through his mind.

Eddie took a peak at the old man. There was no way that anyone there was going to save his life. He was as good as dead already.

But taking a closer look at him, Eddie was shrunk by the sudden sense of recognition. That was the same man who helped in with some money when he was kicked away to stay outside by his ex-mother-in-law.

Eddie was stuck on the spot. He had a father to save and also a favor to return. Certainly, the life of his father mattered more to him.

He was about to walk away but his heart continued to beep. He would not be able to bear the news about the man's death and for this reason, he turned around.

"Just a few minutes and I will be done." He muttered to himself in a hurry

He walked gradually towards the door where he could hear the voice of the doctor from the far end.

“I have done everything medically possible.“ His voice seemed icy cold.

“Doctor Sam, you will have to save my father. I don't care what you have to do or how you want to do it but you just have to save him.“ The voice of the lady came once again, this time, it was even more desperate.

“I will have to go as a last resort.“ He said as Eddie made his grand entry into the place.

“Stop. That alone is going to lead the toxin back into his heart.“ His voice echoed in the room like some ancient curse.

The herd of everyone in the hall turned around towards him almost immediately.

“I know this may sound weird but you have to trust me, that's if you want to save the old man's life.“ He replied but nobody in the room spat out a single word from his mouth.

He could hear shivering followed by the sudden pattern of feet as the lady that had stepped on him earlier walked gracefully towards the other end of the hall.

Her face flooded with anger as though she was about to break the world and finally, she stopped before one of the men who seemed to be a doctor.

“Doctor Richard, I told you to shut the place and what do you do, let another psychopath in? Do you realize that it's the life of the city's mayor that we are talking about? Leader of the Rising age group?“ She thundered.

“I'm sorry ma'am. I have done as you said.“ Doctor Richard replied, not daring to look at her in the face

‘Mayor.. That could only mean that she is his daughter. And also, the president of the third largest family in the city, the Young. Dreaded not only for their wealth but also for their connection.

Crossing their paths was no different from kissing death.

Even though he left the house only a few times, she always seemed to be the center of attention.

Her gracious look and her curves could only pass for that of a Greek goddess.

But there was something odd about her. Looking at her closely, he noticed that she was not the heiress.

But rather her sister. Latoya from what he could recall. Prideful and a major talkative.

“I'm sorry but he reported as the cleaner that was supposed to be sent by your manager.“ Doctor Richard replied

“Is that so..“ Latoya said, turning around towards him with a glare on her face.

“Is it common sense that you start telling me who you are already right?“

“I'm a young man with a little medical knowledge. Your father is very ill and no one here can help him.“

But immediately he spat out the words from his mouth, everyone in the place burst out into laughter.

“Seriously? We have the best doctors that can be found anywhere in Debrick City and you are saying they are all useless?“

“Why don't you start telling me your sob story already bum? You are a doctor, lost your job. I know your kind already.“ She thundered.

“I think I have a dollar here.“ She said tossing it off to the floor while everyone burst out into laughter.

“Know that you have what you want... You can use the door and don't make me change my mind.“ She thundered.

“I'm not here for your money.“ Eddie replied.

“Then what are you here for?”

“To repay a favor that was offered at my lowest point.”

“What's going on here?“ A sudden voice quickly came from behind making everyone bow their heads.

It was Sophia the true heiress with her drop-dead gorgeous look, her blazing lips boops that fitted perfectly and the perfect shape. A perfect definition for every man's dream.

“Sophia, you are here already.“

“That's not the question I asked.“ Her stances were cold. But even still flooded with the air of her grace.

“Just this bum claiming that's the only one that can help Dad. But don't worry sis, I will deal with him.“ She was saying but turned out practically ignored.

“And what makes you think so?“ Sophia turned to the young man.

If he was a powerful healer as he claimed, why was he then dressed in rags? Having the power to heal in their world was the key to unlocking any sector that he wanted.

There could only be one thing. Either he was lying or he was hiding his identity. Knowing most people in the city, the former was the closest in this case.

“Your father's poison appeared once in the world. Only one has the cure and it was passed down to me.“

“Then why should we believe you?“ She asked

“I never asked you to.“

“Since you know too much. Let me ask you a question." Latoya blotted, already getting agitated.

"I have been confirmed sick, can you tell me my symptoms? I heard that great healers can diagnose even without feeling their patients." She said with a knitted brow.

“You have been having itchy eyes, spine pain, swollen legs, and a running stomach which are signs that you are on excessive caffeine and have high typhoid too.“ He replied, making everyone in the hall split up their lips in shock.

"But that's only a sideline to your problem. What you are yet to be told is that you have an internal injury which needs to be treated soon or it's going to get out of hand." He added.

“How could he tell so much just by looking into his eyes?“ He heard one of the cleaners saying.

But instead, Latoya was fumming with anger.

"You are wrong you liar, you are wrong." She thundered angrily.
