It was like one of those nights when the Ashton family always had enough to celebrate. It could be about their evil schemes finally coming to a sensible plot, or it could be that as usual, they were always one step ahead.

They were all seated in the large and undoubtedly spacious living room, bearing smiles on their faces and gladness in their hearts. Finally, one of the family's dreams was going to come to pass.

“Oh, finally.” Anastasia groaned loudly. Not the kind of groan that held any form of regret, sadness or pain. But the one filled with relief. Every member of the family seated, and who equally understood what she meant either burst into a loud laughter or chuckle.

“I'm so happy for you Ana. You finally get to be free.” Her aunt Monica said, a smile of satisfaction crested on her face while she helped herself with a glass of champagne from the table.

“I can't believe he really thought I was going to get married to him. Tch!” Anastasia hissed out loud, her tone and face

Now it was evident that his plan had failed and he had to hurry with a new one or else he was going to get disgraced and probably thrown out. Morin was in a hurry to get Andrew out of the way so he could end up with Anastasia instead. He knew that with him around, and his plans involving him failing, his marriage with Anastasia was not going to go through. And by all means he needed to get married to Anastasia, even if that meant dealing with anyone who stood in his way. Justin, on the other hand, was just as restless as Morin. Since both of them had been the executioners of the evil plot, their reputation was on the line, especially now that inspector Amos had confessed. “Alright everyone,” Justin walked to stand in the middle, clapping in order to draw everyone's attention to himself. “It is now clear to us that we have made a mistake by following the false rumors which spoke I'll about our dear brother in law. So, I beg everyone to please apologize to him for speaking ill abo

Especially if that person wanted to remain alive. “See what you’ve done to yourself and us. Why would you dare touch him?” One of the guests complained afterwards, suddenly switching sides. “You should have just learnt how to mind your business. You don't have to interfere in whatever has nothing to do with you.” Another guest supported the other, and on and on did they go about berating Andrew for what they already considered to be a grave crime. “He is not someone of your caliber. You shouldn't have touched h

For a long second, no one moved. Everyone was left stunned as they gawked at Roman's lifless body. Within the blink of an eye , Anastacia’s heels clicked sharply as she rushed forward, hunkering down to her dad's position. Mr Roman lay motionless—eyes rolled back, lips parted, skin already turning a pale shade that wasn’t natural. “Dad!” Anastacia cried, shooking his body for a reponse. “Someone help! Please!” A man in a navy-blue suit pushed through the crowd, dropping beside Mr. Roman with practiced urgency. “I’m a doctor,” he said quickly. “Everyone give him space!” The crowd immediately parted around them. The doctor’s fingers moved fast—checking pulse, lifting eyelids and beginning compressions. His calm voice barked instructions to nearby staff.“Get me a light and keep

No one has time for your nonsense.” She snapped angrily Anastacia spun toward him, eyes red and brimming. “You stressed my father out with that little stunt you pulled earlier. This is all on you. Since you arrived, all we’ve had is chaos.” Anastacia yelled , her eyes brimming with hatred toward Andrew

Anastasia’s voice trembled as she broke the silence. “How good is he? Will he really be able to heal my father?” She asked , her voice laced with doubt Her eyes were restless, her fingers tightening around the hem of her sleeve as if gripping her last hope. “Of course he can,” Morin straightened, puffing out his chest as if the moment had been scripted for him. “His name is Dr. Vanton Cross.Top of his class, trained in every advanced treatment you can think of. There’s no illness Dr. Cross can’t cure.”Anastasia blinked. “Dr. Vanton Cross?”“Wait—Dr. Vanton Cross?” Aunt Monica cut in, her voice rising with sudden excitement. “I know him!” she nearly shouted, turning sharply toward the others. “He was trained by Doctor Ambrose.”A murmur rippled through the room.“Doctor Ambrose’s apprentice?” someone asked, skeptical, as though the name alone needed confirmation.“You mean the Dr. Cross? The best apprentice of Dr. Ambrose?” another chimed in, their voice echoing with disbelief.“Ye

Dr. Cross had arrived. All heads turned as the man stepped in, crisp white coat fluttering slightly as he moved with a kind of polished confidence that demanded attention. His assistant trailed behind, younger, quieter, clutching a sleek black briefcase.Morin stepped forward, straightening his collar and clearing his throat. “This,” he announced with pride swelling in his voice, “is Dr. Cross.”Gasps followed. The Ashton family stared as if royalty had entered their home. Eyes widened. Jaws slackened. It was as though he had summoned a god, not a doctor.“You actually brought him?” Aunt Monica blinked hard, like she didn’t trust her own vision.“You must be joking,” someone muttered from the back. “Dr. Cross? Here?”“Oh my God,” Someone said under their breath. “This is serious.”Dr. Cross gave a slight nod, scanning the room with mild detachment. His gaze was piercing but not unfriendly—more clinical, like he was already diagnosing everyone from across the room.Aunt Monica sprang

He snatched the mic from the moderator, his chest heaving with confidence.“I have one thing to say tonight,” he roared. “I will prove y’all wrong! I will defeat the undefeatable!”The audience cheered him on, laughed and clapped and screamed his name, not because they believed him, but because they were hungry for another show, another limb, another scream to feed whatever dark craving they carried in their hearts.Andrew looked at the man—Anano—and wondered what had made him say yes to this fight, wondered if he had a family, if he was fighting for money or pride or if he simply didn’t care whether he lived or died anymore, because sometimes a man says yes to death not out of bravery but out of silence.Everyone expected Hades to say something too, as he usually did before his bloodbaths, but what he did next sent a wave of shock across the room, though it faded quickly and was swallowed by more cheering.Without warning, Hade charged toward Anano, taking him and everyone else in th

This is exciting!” a man yelled, his voice trembling not from fear but from some wild kind of joy, as if he had just witnessed a miracle and not a murder.“He did that in seconds!”“I knew it! Hades is undefeated!”“Only one undefeatable Hades!”There was nothing exciting about what Andrew just saw, and the scene irked him in a way that crawled beneath his skin, like insects gnawing at his insides with sharp teeth made of guilt and fury, because what he had witnessed was not a fight, not even sport—it was a public execution and still they all cheered. He tried to blink the image away—the torn flesh, the severed head lying like garbage in the blood-soaked ring—but it clung to the inside of his eyelids like a second skin, and no matter how hard he tried to breathe thro

The next day, Andrew set out for the Shadow Furnace. He didn’t know what to expect. But he wasn’t turning back. He drove in silence as he headed to the address his investigator had given him . After a few hours , he arrived at a lonely path surrounded by silence. No signposts. No lights. Just a one-storey building deserted in the middle of nowhere . Andrew's breath fogged slightly as he parked. The wind outside was cold, but he didn’t shiver. His body was too tense, too wired to feel the air. But something about it felt alive. Breathing. Watching. He walked toward the door. Two guards stood on either side, faces like stone. One held out his hand. Andrew didn’t speak. He simply passed the ID he’d been given—no name, just a symbol. The man looked at it once, then handed him a black mask. “Keep it on at all times,” he said. Andrew nodded. A third man appeared, tall and lean, dressed in all black. He said nothing as he turned and began walking. Andrew followed. They wal

The scanner recognized his print without hesitation. The soft green light blinked, then the heavy glass doors slid open. No alarms. No questions. The guards at the front simply nodded and stepped aside, like he had always belonged. The hallway leading to the vault was quiet. Cold. He could hear his own footsteps echo off the marble floors. He glanced up at the tall portraits lining the walls. Proud men. Blank-eyed. All with the same jawline. The same tight mouths. The vault was where Roman kept the things that mattered. Not jewelry. Not money. But papers. Documents. Truths.Andrew stood before the second scanner. This one was different.Only one man had access here.He pulled out the small case from his coat pocket. Inside, the rubber mold of Mr. Ashton’s fingerprint

Andrew’s gaze settled on Morin, flat and emotionless, as though he were already tired of the conversation, as though he hadn't just been threatened.“I don’t have any business with you, Morin. If you don’t tell me where Anastacia is, you’ll be the one choosing which limb to lose.” His voice was quiet. Cold and detached.Morin tilted his head and smiled as if Andrew had just told a joke. “You sure do have lots of guts. But I don’t know of what help that would be to you today.” He pulled a folded sheet of paper from the inner pocket of his jacket, flattened it on the glass table between them, and slid it forward. “Here. This is an undertaking.”Andrew didn’t look down. His eyes stayed on Morin’s face, his expression unreadable.“I’m going to propose this to you as a gentleman,” Morin continued, his voice dripping with mockery . “Sign this and walk away with the five million dollar check. Or…”“Or what?” Andrew snapped, his tone sharp and full of disdain. “I thought I made it clear I’m n

Morin looked away, then back at Anastacia , calm as ever. “I invited some friends to take care of him.” Anastacia’s stomach dropped. “Friends?” “Can you go straight to the point?” She snapped, her voice rising in frustration. Morin's confidence oozed from every fiber of his being as he leaned in close, his voice smooth and laced with a touch of amusement. "Don't worry about that, babe. After I'm done with him, I’ll make sure he signs an agreement to cancel the wedding and leave Jashem City. That way, he won’t be an obstruction to our wedding again." His eyes gleamed with a mischief , his mind already plotting the next steps. Anastasia’s brows creased as she tilted her head slightly. There was something off about the way Morin spoke—too certain, too smooth. “How do you plan on doing that? You were the one who just said how stubborn he is.” Morin exhaled, a heavy sigh escaping his lips, as if she were asking the simplest question in the world. He wrapped his arms around her waist, p

The next day came too quickly. It was supposed to be the day of Anastacia and Andrew’s court wedding. After what happened yesterday, the Ashton family had no more excuses. Andrew had done everything they asked . Now it was their turn to keep their word. But Anastacia still hadn’t changed her mind. She didn’t want the wedding. Not to Andrew. Not under these terms. Yet everyone was moving ahead as if her feelings didn’t matter. Andrew stood outside the courthouse, glancing around with restless eyes. His heart beat a little faster each time someone entered the building, but it was never her. He checked the time again. Still nothing. He called her. Straight to voicemail. Again. His jaw clenched. Something was off. She wouldn’t just vanish. Not on today of all days. He dialed again, pacing. "Pick up. Come on, just pick up." Then his phone rang. It was an Unknown number. He answered quickly. “Hello?” “If you want to see Anastacia alive,” a voice said, cold and unfamilia
