Chapter 2.

Henry's heart sank seeing who it was. Sighing he picked up the phone as he prayed for good news even though he knew it was futile as what he was going to receive was bad news.

"Henry, how are you doing?" A gentle voice came from the other end of the phone.

"I'm fine doctor, how's my mother?" Henry sighed as she asked.

"Well, I called you to inform you of her condition." The voice on the other end of the phone replied.

"Is she fine?" Henry asked, feeling rather optimistic even though he knew that the news he would be receiving would be bad.

"Well..." The voice on the other end sighed, as his voice trailed off.

"Doctor, please say it." Henry pleaded, it was just as he had guessed, it was going to be bad news and he was already prepared to hear it.

"Well, your mother's condition is becoming worse, and you need to start her treatment urgently, or else I'm afraid we'll be helpless once it enters stage III."

Henry's heart sank hearing what the doctor said, he couldn't believe his ears, it was just like a dream to him. His mother had cancer and he was lucky that it was discovered at stage 0, but then he had been trying his best to provide money for her treatment.

But then, his ability to provide enough money had allowed it to enter stage 1, and now, it was at the second stage. The doctor calling him meant that if he didn't do something, it was going to enter the third stage.

Besides, the doctor had been a lot of help to him and had been helping him waive some of the medical bills he was supposed to pay which made Henry feel rather Indebted.

"Henry." The voice came from the other end snapping Henry out of his thoughts.

"Doctor, I'm alright, I'll come over to the hospital right away," Henry replied as he disconnected the call.

Immediately, he took to his heels and started sprinting towards the hospital. Even though it was quite a distance from where he was, he had no other choice. He didn't have any money on him.

Besides, he was used to sprinting the distance as he would sprint to the hospital sometimes when he didn't have money or when he was heading to work.

An hour later, Henry arrived at the hospital panting heavily. He was reeking of sweat but he could care less about it. The only thing he could care about was his mother, he had to look for a way to get the money for her treatment.

The money he was going to use to treat her was not much since the doctor had helped him waive some of the hospital bills, but then he was still incapable of providing.

"Mum!" Henry yelled as he rushed into a private ward.

Inside the ward was the doctor who had just called Henry giving his mother a checkup on her body.

"Henry here you are," A sweet voice came immediately Henry rushed into the ward.

"Mum." Henry sighed as he looked at his mother who was lying on the bed. She had become considerably skinny from the last time he saw her and his heart couldn't help but hurt seeing her in that state.

"Henry, I'd advise you to hurry up before your mother's condition worsens." The doctor sighed as he looked at Henry.

"Yes, I understand, Doctor." Henry sighed.

"I know You're trying your best, but you still need to work even harder." The doctor smiled as he walked out of the room leaving the mother and son.

"Mum..." Henry sighed as he called, his voice breaking.

"Don't worry silly child, I'm alright." Zoey smiled as she held her son's hand.

"But mum..."

"No you're not allowed to complain, this is my fate and I have accepted it." Zoey smiled as she looked at her son lovingly.

"Mother, I couldn't be a better child, I'm sorry." Henry sobbed as he let out his grievances.

Many things had happened to him today, first, it was his boss collecting his rightful award, then snatching his girlfriend. Then worse of all, his mother's condition was worsening and he didn't have money to treat her.

"Son, it's alright, I'll be fine." Zoey smiled as she looked at her son, her heartbroken.

It was said that the tears coming out of a man's face should never be underestimated as they wouldn't cry until they were broken completely without any salvation.

"But mum, if I can't provide for your treatment, there's no way you'll be fine." Henry sighed as he looked at his mother.

"Don't worry son." Zoey smiled as she kept reassuring Henry even though she knew it was futile.

"Mum, what about dad?" Henry sighed as he looked at his mum.

Zoey's face changed and she turned her head refusing to answer Henry's question.

Henry sighed seeing his mother's actions, ever since he was small, his mother had made him believe that his father was dead, anytime he asked about it, she would refuse to say anything.

No matter how hard he tried, her lips were sealed tight which made him helpless, there was nothing he could do.

Besides, his mother had been the one taking care of him since he was small. He could remember her taking up all sorts of work just to be able to provide for him and most times, wouldn't eat before going to bed while she made sure he always went to bed with a full stomach.

"Mum..."

"Don't ask about your dad." Zoey sighed as she looked at Henry while caressing his head.

"Yes Mum," Henry nodded, he already knew she wasn't going to say anything, so there was no need for him to try.

But then the hatred and disgust he had for the one who was his father was not little. Why the hell would he abandon his wife and his sons for so many years and not come back?

Well, there was nothing he could do anyway. Sighing, Henry pushed the thoughts to the back of his mind as he sat with his mother.

He had already lost his job, so he would have to look for another one. But first, he had to stay with his mother. Because of how busy he had been, he hadn't been able to come to visit his mother for quite a while.

Now being with her gave him a sense of accomplishment, he had lost everything in a day. Having his mother besides him comforts him, however, if he didn't get the money to treat her, she would also be leaving him soon.

He knew he had to do something, he couldn't lose her, no matter what, he had to do something. But what the hell could he do? He was regarded as trash by everyone in the society so there was no need for him to do anything.

He was sure he was going to be rejected even if he went ahead to look for a job. No one would be willing to take in trash.

"Mum, I'll be taking my leave." Henry sighed as he stood.

"Take care, son." Zoey smiled as she looked at her son with loving eyes.

"It's alright mum." Henry smiled as he walked out of the hospital.

Getting out of the hospital, Henry sighed as he looked at the sky. Nothing was helping, everything was gone.

He would be left alone soon in the world, what the hell was happening? He just couldn't understand. He was just too broken to think about anything. All he wanted was just to wallow in his misery.

He had nothing else to do in the world. At the moment, the only thought in his mind was just to leave the world. His mother would be leaving soon, so there was no need to stay any longer.

The longer he stayed, the more his misery, so it was useless anyway, besides, there was no way he was going to be able to get the money to pay for his mother's treatment. No one would be willing to borrow trash like his money, so it was best to leave.

Ring! Ring!

Just then, Henry's phone rang pulling him out of his thoughts. Looking at his phone, he saw it was a strange number which made him frown.

"Hello, Son!" A hoarse voice came from the other end of the phone just as he picked up the call.
