Asher's Legacy. Chapter One.
The sun had started to set and a cool breeze was blowing. Asher Griffin smiled to himself as he walked down the street towards the Harper's family mansion, where a party was being thrown that night to celebrate the 60th birthday anniversary of Roland Harper, the patriarch of the family and his father in law. He slipped his hand into his pocket and touched the small box he kept there, which made him smile even wider. "Roxanne is going to love this gift," he thought to himself. Today, he had bought Roxanne a necklace with a set of earrings so she could wear for the party. His wife's family looked down on him and treated him like trash because he was poor. When he got married to Roxanne three years ago, the Harpers thought he was a new big shot in the city. Unknown to them, he was just running errands for his boss. He had tried to explain the truth to them, but they never thought to listen to him. As he reached the gates of the mansion, he saw that they were closed. The pressed in th

Asher couldn't believe it, but he kept his expression calm. "I want to hear from my wife first. Roxanne, do you really want to divorce me?" He asked hid wife who still sat quietly in the corner. She raised her head to look at him, and as Asher looked into her eyes, he saw a look of determination set into her face. She stood up and moved to stand before him, then said."You know that I love you very much, and I will never do such a thing."Asher was relieved to hear his wife's words. He took her hand and turned to look at her family members' faces in anger. He then began to say to them, "So you are willing to sacrifice your daughter's happiness? All because of money and a few gifts?" The Harpers looked at each other and burst into laughter. Roland wiped his eyes and said, "Who are you to question us? I am the head of this home and I will do whatever is best for my family. And currently, that is ensuring we have strong ties to the Larsen family, and you are being a stumbling block f

Asher sat down in the back of the car as the driver wove through the roads in the city. "Find me a comfortable place to sleep tonight." Asher said to the driver. "Yes boss," the driver nodded and continued to drive, stopping in front of a 4 star luxury hotel. "It's not the best in the city, but it's the closest sir." The driver said to him. "It's fine," Asher replied. He opened a small black box that was kept on the seat beside him in the car. In the box was a black card with a glittering silver stripe along one side, and a sleek black smartphone. He tucked both items into the pocket of his jeans and stepped out of the car and into the hotel lobby. Once he entered the hotel, he went straight to the front desk where a young woman was sitting behind it. She took one look at him, noticing his old jeans and rough t-shirt and her face dissolved into a frown. "I'd like a room for the night, please." Asher said to her. She wrinkled her nose at him as if he smelled bad, then said rudel

The next morning, Asher stood on the balcony of the hotel room, making a phone call. "We need to meet with the families, so we can know our next plan of action. I'll see you soon. Send a car to pick me up this morning." Asher said into the phone. "As you wish, boss." The voice on the other side replied. "Good." Asher said and hung up. He moved about to get ready for the day. He looked at his rumpled shirt and jeans, and made a mental note to get himself new clothes. He left the suite and took the elevator downstairs to the lobby. There, he saw the manager from yesterday standing by the front desk, talking sternly to a new receptionist. The manager turned and noticed him, then rushed forward and began to offer greetings. "Uh, good morning, Mr…" The manager then realised that he didn't even know Asher's name. "You can call me Mr. Griffin." Asher told him, noticing his discomfort. "Thank you very much, sir," The manager supplied. "I'll be leaving this morning." Asher announced.

. Asher was on his way to the estate of the first family on his list when he received a call from Roxanne. "Hello Asher," she said in a small voice over the speaker. On hearing that tone, Asher immediately knew that something was not right. His wife was normally quite calm and soft spoken, but right now something was amiss. "What's wrong my dear?" He asked, concern lacing his tone. "It's my parents," she answered, her voice starting to break. Asher felt unease begin to flow through his veins, but none of it was visible on his face. Hadn't that family hurt them enough? What is it they did this time? "What's happened? How did they hurt you? What did they do?" He asked her in a calm voice. The car turned onto the paved road that led to the Garrison estate. They were a second rate family in New York City, with a lot of influence and connections as they were once a top rate family. However, not many knew their background or how they were able to remain an influential family after the disaster that befell them all those years ago. Asher Griffin was however very privy to that secret, as they were one of the many families in the country that answered to him. Or rather the power he represented. Either way, he needed a base of operations, and as long as they played their cards right, they could benefit from this arrangement greatly. The car rolled to a stop in front of the gates of the expansive Garrison estate. The guards at the post were confused, as they weren't alerted by the family higher ups that anyone important was visiting that day. "Who are you, please? And how may we help you?" One guard approached the car on the driver's side and asked. Asher didn't reply, it w

Some people can't recognise greatness even when it stands before them," Andrew tried to suck up to Asher, who only replied with a small smile on his face. Asher then ordered the security guards back to their duty posts. The two guards who had let Asher in bowed and thanked him profusely before rushing back, feeling relief that they had not taken action against him. James, on the other hand was as pale as a sheet. He was currently trembling where he stood by the side. Who exactly had he offended? He had let his arrogance and greed go to his head. He was praying silently that the mysterious man whom even his family head had to respect would have mercy on him. As if Andrew could hear his brother's thoughts, he called him ti kneel in front of Asher and apologise. "Now, apologise to Mr. Kane here. "I really do hope she divorces that her good for nothing husband. I was lucky to see Seth Larsen once, he's so tall and handsome." The first one said, clasping her hands in front of her chest with a dreamy look in her face. "That means you want our company not to get investors?" the second one chided her.
