Chapter 109: Conflicted

Nolan sighed inwardly, not letting his expression show on his face. “Nothing sir. I was just late for some reason.” He quickly gave out the silly excuse that came to his mind.

How would he have expected the teacher to buy it?

He sighed more heavily, with the teacher's next words.

“Are you talking to a kid or what? What do you mean by coming late for some reason? I need to know how important that reason is that you've to step into my class late.” His voice was raised a little, as he spoke.

His classmate, who was watching, couldn't help, but burst out laughing. Even though they no longer ridicule Nolan to much extent, that doesn't mean they won't laugh, if they find anything funny.

Nolan wasn't displeased by their outburst. He simply shrugged his shoulders, ignoring them.

He turned to face the teacher once again. “The reason why I was late was due to me reading till early this morning.” He had thought them through, and his excuse was the only way to leave this man front.
