The Terminus was still a puzzle to him. Carsen was sure that all of its kind were killed during the apocalypse. He even witnessed how his uncle Briggs joined the armies and planned with them in executing those monsters.
But how there's still one of them left in this simulated game world? Carsen asked himself.
But they feel so real in this game world! I must find out! He thinks." Hey, Carsen dude!"
One of the players from Jair's group." Jiggs!" he introduces himself, extending out his hand for a bump. It's odd how some players approach him for acquaintance lately after he defeated the cyborg monster. Carsen perhaps was the quietest or loner among the players. And being an introvert he's uncomfortable with this kind of attention. Also, he could assume why they want to friend him - for an alliance."You were cool in there a while ago, dude!" Jiggs chuckled swinging his arms, copying Carsen's move a while ago.
Carsen was still quiet. He's observing Jiggs. Looking at him he wonders why a guy like him is in this deadly game.Curly hair...bulging belly...He looks more funny than tenacious... but I think he's safe. Carsen thinks. And so he accepted his handshake." That was just luck," Carsen replied.
Jiggs nodded." So, you drop out of Stanford and transferred a Newman's school?" Jiggs asked Carsen. He's trying to establish a rapport.Carsen nodded." Me... I graduated there but...feels like I haven't learned a thing," Jiggs said, chuckling." Except that...the school is a way to get rich!"Jiggs added laughing out loud. Then, in a second his face turned serious." Imagine...I spent my younger years studying there just to get qualified in this party games...without knowing if I'll make it alive here," Jiggs said.Carsen felt the burden in his heart. Jiggs is right. All the players here are facing that kind of uncertainty. This world of theirs really had gone abnormal since after the apocalypse. If before young people would study so they could sustain their lives, now, in this crazy world order they have - young ones study so they could be invited to a reunion, and eventually qualify to join in a party game where they would win or die.
Carsen sighed." We don't have a choice. If you want straight success then this fatal game system is the way, no other..." he said.Yet, at the back of his mind, Carsen was thinking that the only way this game would end is if the new world order if the new social order will vanish. The entire humanity was like pulled under the strings of a puppet master. Carsen thought to himself.
And here we are pushed to kill and be killed in this fu*** party games!" My mom is sick with a very rare sickness. And the only way I see she could get the best treatment was for me to ascend to Castellan class," Jiggs said.
Hearing that, Carsen was a bit surprised. He didn't expect that this funny guy has a soft side. So, that was his motivation. He thinks. He can't blame people in the lower class for coming such a risky decision. Although medical treatment is all free to Newmans and Flocks, still the best hospitals and other stuff are exclusive to Castellans. What the lower hierarchy gets are just generic, leftovers for the commoners. So, patients with diseases like Jiggs' mom are left dying without really getting cured.Carsen patted Jiggs' shoulders.
" I wish you...to win.." he muttered."Bzztttnggg!!"The sound of the buzzer interrupts their conversation.
The players know what that means. And as expected what comes after was the voiceover." Hello again, players!"
The voice greeted them." We are now on the 4th phase of our party games!"
The players hold their breath. Some of them have not even recovered yet from the trauma of the last round. Some were gnashing their teeth eager to make a score this time. While Jair, was in the corner, smirking hoping to get even with Carsen this time.
The voice speaks again.
" Like when you were in high school, you get thrilled whenever you play this game,"The players glanced at each other. Their gazes were silently asking what's the game for the next round.
Later on, something from above falls unto their spot. The players noticed it was their school ID card when they were still in high school in Standford.
" Reunions aren't fun without us talking about your past and present..right?" said the voice.
"Sh**!"
Jair silently cussed in the corner. While some of them shakingly grasped at their old IDs, Carsen was still figuring out where is this leading. If he would know the person behind this game, then greater chance he'll have a hint about how the games will be navigated. But until now, he's looking for ways how he can have access to the information outside. If he can talk to his friends out there, then maybe they know who's the author of this game." Players!"
The voice reverberates again." The game for this round is Suck and Blow Card. I'm sure you guys would enjoy this with a Tequilla shot first!"But the players' faces were blank. Of course, they know the rules here is a sadist. When the voice says you will enjoy, then expect it to be brutal.
After some time, the players were lined up according to the alphabetical order of their last names. Then a glass with tequila and salt is placed in front of them. On the metal tray were two spot marks. One was neon green, and the other was black. Where they placed their glass after a shot would determine the course of their challenge.
" Sh**! What's in the drink? I am not just dizzy," Janesi whispered, and so she rushed to taste the salt to eliminate the odd taste in her tongue.
The other players did the same experience too. When all were done drinking. The voice informed them that the shot would make their task even more challenging. And it is right. It's difficult to do the task with a disoriented mind.
" Damn!"
Jair cussed. While Carsen hinted there was no good in the tequila shots and so he planned to cheat. He stuck the drink in his mouth. He planned not to swallow it. So, at this time..he's not yet weak not sleepy, or hallucinating. He's still fine. But to his shock when the voice explained how the game must be done.
Suck and Blow Card is a fun game played at parties. Carsen remembers his classmates in high school playing this with their crushes for they will have the chance to kiss the person next to them if they are unsuccessful in passing the card. It's just pure fun. No life-threatening consequences for mistakes done. Very contrary to the kind of Suck and Blow Card that they are about to play now. But what worries Carsen most is... he can't hold the tequila inside his mouth without swallowing it if he's to suck the ID card with his lips. And if he would swallow the Tequilla, then he'll get disoriented as the other players. After a while, when the voice was done explaining the rules to them. A set of obstacle courses pop out in the area. And in the finish spot is a magnet board where they would place their IDs.
Looking at what they all need to surpass, Carsen's eyes widened in worry and shock. They need to bring their IDs to that board in a distance, with just their lips sucking and holding it while leaping and escaping all these obstacles!Sh**! Carsen cussed in his thoughts.
He knows very well that he can't stuck this liquor inside his mouth. He's no choice but to swallow it.
Come what may! Carsen whispered in his mind.
One was neon green, and the other was black. Where the players placed their glass after a shot would determine the course of their challenge. The players who placed their glass on the green spot whined in fear and disappointment. The voice told them that they have to take part in an unbearable journey. When all the obstacle courses were laid off, everything looks easy to look at. Good thing because it wouldn't be a joke stepping on all those with their lips sucking an ID card from falling. They have to remember one important rule. The card has to fall up to three times only, and if it exceeds that, there's an awaiting surprise for each of them. " Sh**! This game used to make my heart flutter in high school...now, it's making me crazy!" Lizie whispered. Lizie remembers how this game in high school makes the crowd go wild whenever they heard that Lizie Ward is joining the suck-and-blow card. Of course, who wouldn't? She's the Queen B at Stanford High. She's the muse. Many has got a c
" Listen Folks!" Robin Mack isn't sure if the man with a megaphone yelling up on the stage is sending a message or just ranting out. A group of protesters gathered under the scorching sun. Let us go back to paradise!Perfection is a lie!End that party games!Cancel Standford High!Wake up! It isn't a game but systematic murder Those were what was written on their placards. The voice of the man on a megaphone echoed amidst the streets again. " Folks! This isn't a normal world! We were once free people before the apocalypse! They say our planet's original name is Eden. This planet was originally a paradise, a beautiful garden until we all fell into a curse! But even now...we're not still breaking from it! And we will continue to lose our paradise as long as Jimmie Vaughn is alive!" The man ranted. Oh! Damn! Why did he say the forbidden word? Robin Mack thinks. Seconds later he saw men in uniform dragging the man with a megaphone, arresting him and the other protesters. Robin w
It was still a puzzle until about where this game took them. Everything around them looks real in a simulated world. Sometimes they were instantly transported from place to place. The players haven't seen as high-tech system as what's inside this game world. Another thing is, they also begin to realize how freak the game author was. " Imagine how party games could be deadly now," Lizie whispered to Jiggs. Jiggs chuckled, " don't expect," he said looking around. "partying in the new world order isn't any more fun," Now the players are in their neat, elegant suits. The boys were on their ties and tuxedo, while some girls wearing cocktail dresses. The dinner prepared for them was elegantly fine. They were now in a modern, spacious, glass-walled room. There were waiters and chefs attending and serving them as if they were some VIP guests at a party. There is symphonic music playing in the air. The meal ambiance was relaxing. But of course, the players know all could just be a fine
An old woman from the Flock class who's living near a coastal area called the police when she noticed a dead body tossed by waves to that mangrove area nearby shore. Minutes later crime scene in charge came. Robin Mack was with the team. The old woman told them how she was terrified of the corpse. She was still narrating the incident when a fellow officer found another corpse nearby. To their shock, leading the police into finding out more dead bodies swept on that shore, and on shores in other cities, in the same M.O. The mass dumping of corpses is causing anxiety to the Flocks, given that those bodies were found near their residences. But the police, especially Robin Mack have one certain suspicion of this - the party games. " Hey, can I have the list and information of those invited to the reunion?" Robin asked his informant. The world had just seen the invited guests turned players their names and faces being flashed on TV, but after that, accessing information about them is l
Harpie curled herself on a bunk bed. The prison room she's in is secured with cemented walls and iron bars with just a single piece of furniture and a worn-out magazine on the side. She's been here for a month already. She heard that she was supposed to go out but something came up from the higher department. Actually, it's been months too since she has been married to Barry, and it's been months that she's been numb. She's at this point in her life where it's like she doesn't care about her life anymore. There are days when regret about leaving Carsen would sometimes cross her mind. Marrying Barry had given her all that she wanted. A new social class, money, and access to commodities and places she can't get into when she was still a Newman. She had thought that being a Castellan would solve all her problems, that a Castellan life is always fun, but she got the contrary. Life is even peaceful when she was stuck at the bottom. Barry Hansen, he's a nightmare of a daydream. How come sh
" I only suspect one person to set this all up for Harpie but what's his motive?" Robin mumbled. He sighed, tapping the car wheel, thinking. " We're hitting a wall unless Lucas made a way, or if Carsen wins the game," Dash replied. There has been silence for a moment in the atmosphere. Both Robin and Dash looking out the car window, their mind must be somewhere, thinking. And then sighings. They both know that to destroy the new world order the man on top must be replaced, and Jimmie won't just back down. They know that, but to kill is like killing a god. The outsiders actually thought of assassinating him, but if they do that they will be forever viewed by the world as the devil. " How could the world believe that what we have now is perfection?" Dash muttered. " Because the Newmans and Flocks...we're getting everything we need for free, that's it!" Robin answered. " But..." he scoffed. " This entire planet looks like a prison...you see, we at the bottom wear the same cl
A Flashback - Before The ApocalypseJimmie sat on his office chair facing the high glass wall, looking at the view from the top floor. His mouth curved in a sinister smile while his fingers relaxedly fidgeted on his chin. This is his real face. At this moment when no one is around, Jimmie looks like a cold happy heartless devil. Why it came late for me to realize, that you Carsen Adams... was that weakling kid in the slump. Now, I'm gonna make it hell for you. Jimmie thinks. He chuckled as memories flooded back to his mind. The crowds were yelling wild. Jimmie was just 13 years old he shouldn't be in a place like this, but he doesn't care. His mind and gaze were fixed on that barbed metal ring arena in front. That's all he cares about, the animal fighting, and his dad's favor. Why should he be scared if it's illegal for a kid to be here? His dad is with him. He's the one who brought him here. And he likes it. Jimmie remembers how he killed that bird whom his dad brought home one t
The steady punches of his mother's sewing machine strike his attention. Carsen was so invested in the sight of her mom kicking the worn-out wheel of the sewing machine that has been there in their house since he was born. Her mom felt his presence. She smiled at her and paused from what she was doing for a while. She patted Carsen's head. That peaceful moment he had with her mom was suddenly interrupted when he heard an aircraft spraying dust from outside. Out of curiosity the child Carsen run to their yard despite his mother yelling. As if Carsen didn't hear anything, he just kept on running, his head tilted looking at the plane above until he tipped on something strange on the ground. It was a shiny long stick that looks like a weapon or a musical instrument. Carsen dusted off his pants and went to pick up the strange object, but before his fingertips could touch it, he heard his mother calling. " Carseeen!!" He turned and his mother's figure began to fade away. Carsen's eyes sna
