BELITTLED SON-IN-LAW

CHAPTER 8

Adrian McCain as well as Cecilia both got into the escalator as it took them upward, following closely behind are the board of directors.

After which they entered an elevator that took them to the top of the building into a huge conference room.

As they all took their respective positions, Cecilia began by saying;

"Welcome everyone, I have an important announcement to make, we have someone important here with us. Standing here today is the man who will run and own this company from now on." After waiting for some reaction and found none except from Adrian who was surprised by this revelation.

'What is she saying? Am I dreaming? This is like the biggest company in the entire city. How would they ask me to run it without even having a meeting with me?' Adrian thought.

Yes she had told him, he was a Louison but never told him he would be running the company.

Cecilia continued;

"This the son and heir to the Louison's."

All of the board of directors gasped in shock.

They never knew any of this would ever happen nor imagined that the Louison's had a son, let alone an heir.

They wanted to ask questions but they had no right to at least not when Cecilia was so sure of what she was saying.

They all put on a display of laughter and applauded at this revelation, there is only a little their words can do and no one would dare go against Louison himself.

"Welcome Mr Louison to this company, we hope to have a great time together." One of the board members uttered

"Thank you." Adrian McCain replied mildly, still trying to process everything.

"Any words you want to share with the board members?" Cecilia inquired as he turned to Adrian who was still dazzled.

After much consideration he said,

"It is an honor to be here and being named the CEO of this grand Plaza 'SOUTH COAST' but I am afraid I don't want to be that."

Everyone including Cecilia gasped at his words, she said,

"Why not? Do you want to run another company? We have more you could choose from if you want."

"This is fine, but the reason I can't be the CEO is because I don't know anything about how this place runs, so at least for now let me work as a staff in the business department or something so I can fully understand everything about the company." Adrian said.

Some of the board members began to murmur amongst themselves.

"Whoa!!! Such wisdom."

"I agree, he is really wise and has a good head on his shoulders."

"I believe he will be a great heir and boss."

"Mr Adrian, you've bought the entire board members love and respect with your wisdom and fine words, and I believe I speak on behalf of all of us here today, when I say that we will help you and teach you everything you need to know about the company. We deserve no better leader than you." A board director said and everyone conceded by giving their support through applause.

"Thank you all very much for welcoming me with open arms, it means a lot. I am honored." He replied.

The last time he was applauded for anything was four years ago when he finished college and was being called up to the stage to give a speech since he was a valedictorian.

"Okay Mr Adrian, what post do you intend to occupy for now to learn about the company?" One of the board members asked.

"Don't worry about that, I will handle it myself, he might want to work as a staff but he will be in a high position, will prepare the papers for you sir." Cecilia uttered and immediately went out to carry out.

It would seem Adrian was starting work right away, and that is something that wasn't planned, but wasn't that what he was looking for?

He found a job, and not just anyone he gets to choose which department he works in.

In less than thirty minutes the documents were ready and was handed over to him, Cecilia wanted to escort him to the HR but he stopped her.

He said,

"I will find it and besides I need to get familiar with the company."

"Your wish is my command sir." Cecilia said and let him do as he wishes.

Adrian McCain walked towards a room and saw a sign, written, HR (Human Resources) this is the office that is responsible for its employees and recruiting them into their various jobs.

He walked to the office door and knocked politely but an impatient voice uttered rudely,

"Come in."

The tone of the voice made Adrian very upset and got inside curious to find out who that voice belonged to and why such an arrogant person would be working there.

He saw a middle aged woman sitting there focused on her cell phone and this made him more upset about her negligence and the reception she was exhibiting, but he refrained from saying anything out of anger and greeted,

"Good day ma'am."

"Yeah what is it that you want? Just say it and don't waste my time." The middle aged woman said without looking up to find out who she was talking to, all she was focused on was her phone.

"I am here to finish the onboarding process ma'am."

Hearing this, the middle aged woman frowned and dropped her phone, looked at Adrian from head to toe with disdain and began checking her files, after that, she checked her computer and found nothing.

There was of course no record of new staff entry.

She became enraged, sneered at Adrian.

The disgust on her face the stares makes it seem as though the person standing in front of her stinks.

"There is no such thing on my schedule, your pranks aren't needed here you can go." The middle aged woman uttered.

"Please ma'am kindly check once more." Adrian said.

"I am sure you are a fraudulent person. I mean who let you come in here in the first place, I trust my schedule and there is no way a new entry would arrive here that I won't get updated. So if you know what's best for you, kindly leave else I will call security." She said as she reached for the telephone.

Adrian was already getting upset by her uncouth behavior but he didn't want to reveal his identity and suggested that she at least checks her email.

That was the last straw, the middle aged woman uttered sternly,

"What the hell? Are you trying to teach me my job? How dare you? You think you can do my job perfe…"

The sound of the phone disrupted her conversation and she impatiently picked up and found out it was her underling so she yelled;

"What?!"

"Ma'am there was a temporary delay in the update of your schedule, I wanted to let you know that there would be someone joining the company today, it was a rushed notice ma'am." The voice on the other side of the phone said making the middle aged woman frown even more.
