"T-That!" The guard on duty couldn't believe what he saw.
Every pair of eyes standing there trembled uncontrollably, sweat dripping, touching the fear within their bodies.
A cavalry unit moved in the same direction, waving familiar flags.
"Those inside the fortress must be terrified of our presence!" muttered Termolo, the proud general of the Kingdom of Gimoro.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The sound echoed like lightning, shattering every eardrum in panic. One by one, they questioned the meaning of this. They found no answers except for the screams of soldiers continually warning them to stay away.
Strange sounds echoed amidst the footsteps and panic. Those who paid attention widened their eyes as they saw strange objects falling from the sky, fatally piercing anyone below with their deadly thrusts.
Indeed the fortress was not very high, and even a single soldier could easily climb it. The soldiers stormed in, relentlessly fighting against those standing in the fortress. Resistance was given, but once again, it proved to be futile.
Termolo laughed proudly. "This time, their side won't be able to stay here. I'm sure they'll learn from all of this!"
The shouts ringing in his ears were like beautiful music, and behind the fortress, one could already imagine what was happening.
The rhythmic sound of horse hooves continued, splitting through the densely populated city streets filled with fear. Every pair of eyes glanced without blinking as the troops passed with grandeur.
Soldiers fell from the 7-meter-high fortress, crushing those below. People questioned what was truly happening, the buzzing sound followed by a rain of arrows.
"Why? Why is there an enemy daring enough to retaliate like this?" Termolo asked, clenching his fists tightly, then throwing them down with a loud voice, "Soldiers, get ready! We will slaughter every enemy behind that fortress!"
"Whoah!" cheered the enthusiastic soldiers.
The perfect moment for them to notice the open gate, and everyone's faces lit up as they saw how easily the opponents surrendered.
Something extraordinary unfolded before their eyes—a cavalry unit with silver armor. They kept advancing, roughly thrusting toward the unaware soldiers.
"H-How is this possible? Damn, so the enemy troops have reached here! How dare they do this to me! Soldiers, prepare to face the enemy!" he shouted in panic.
Everyone cheered loudly to make that wish come reality.
They lined up; Termolo's troops were accustomed to this. In this case, it was best for them to form that formation, the layer of armor tightly packed in front of each soldier's face forming a sturdy fortress.
Their tall bodies provided distance for the falling arrows, and one by one, each target would feel the swift projectiles.
Ting!
His sword sliced through the air, finally clashing with every falling arrow. His gaze never wavered.
"They are quite clever. They want to play this game perfectly! I never expected them to attack today!" he exclaimed, a wide grin on his face.
Under the warm welcome of those arrows, he infiltrated the formation, skillfully crawling through, bringing blood from his sword which inevitably found its way to the necks it passed.
The crisp sound mixed with the splattering of blood blazed fiercely in his field of vision. Termolo's fingers were sweaty. A thousand questions of concern continued murmuring in his mind.
"What is happening here? Could they truly be a formidable kingdom? It's impossible; how could they achieve this without immense power?" His ears heard a loud buzzing, and instantly the answer was visible before his eyes.
A horse carried the figure of a person in silver armor, leaping past the formations, then stepping towards him with a resounding speed.
The tip of their swords extended, reflecting a dazzling gleam in their eyes.
Ting!
Their weapons clashed, harboring hidden hopes, and as they locked eyes, their eyebrows curved. Their lips tightened, and the bulge in their mouths clenched tightly.
Ting!
Garlan pulled his sword, producing a loud clang, followed by a graceful arc of beautiful light slicing through the air. Termolo's quick hand movements wouldn't be outdone; promptly he raised the hilt of his sword to withstand the deadly strike.
Crash...
Unfortunately, the composition of their swords differed. The crisp strike landed, cleaving the flesh of the neck, causing the head to fall into the crimson air, splattering onto the bewildered soldier's face.
Everyone fell silent as they slowly witnessed the powerless head falling, resounding cheers echoed in everyone's ears in unison, shouting Termolo's name."Huh..." After taking a long breath, Garlan said, "This is just one head, there are many more heads I must sever. I can't wait to chop off the heads present here!"
Everyone suddenly stopped breathing, one by one they took swift steps, irregularly swirling dust obscuring their vision.
"They're always so easily frightened, but are they really doing all this just for power?" Garlan asked, observing his surroundings, blood scattered everywhere from the lifeless bodies.
Garlan then led his troops towards the town, a synchronized applause raising their spirits with pride. Joyful voices of gratitude echoed loudly, their footsteps seemed light with the smiles on the faces of the townspeople.
"So, is this the meaning of being heroes?" Gobil asked grinning.
"What are you saying? Let's not consider this as a pride that must be constantly upheld!" Reval replied.
As the cheers gradually subsided, a different reception took over, even more grandiose than before. The royal banners were raised to welcome them, but only Garlan and his selected aides were allowed to walk freely, leading them into the majestic halls.
A gripping atmosphere of grandeur enveloped them. The glass windows cast a bright silhouette that landed precisely on the king's throne, where Alfred sat.
Alfred stood, followed by his followers, welcoming Garlan and the others. The three of them responded by slightly bowing their heads.
"I'm glad you were able to drive out the enemy so perfectly. I can't imagine what would have happened if you hadn't been present in this war!" Alfred exclaimed, overflowing with unrestrained joy.

I could feel how they looked at me with great cynicism, but there were also those who looked at me with hope, or rather something deeper than that. My gaze tried to survey the surroundings. In the left corner stood a woman with an innocent face, her eyes fixed deeply on me. I quickly averted my gaze, as if everything was just a hallucination."Garlan!" Alfred exclaimed firmly. My head suddenly lifted involuntarily, and the old man's eyes filled with hopeful anticipation were directed towards me."Yes?""As a token of gratitude for what you have done, I will grant your request," he replied with sincerity, devoid of any deceit. My face lowered again, but I had to make a decision. The growing aura was making it difficult for me to control my breathing. Finally, I found my words, "Alright, I will ask for the agreed-upon reward. Here, I request 1000 gold coins!"Some people showed different expressions, their eyes glanced at each other as they whispered softly. I tried to ignore it all; th
The sound instantly brought an awkward tension between them. Gean casually urged his horse towards them."What are you two doing? It's completely pointless!" he reprimanded firmly."Ugh... Here you come again!" Gobil muttered, glancing to the side.Reval didn't blame the reprimand; he agreed with what was said. His gaze then focused on Garlan."You two not worthy of confusing Leader Garlan. It's clear here every step he takes is the right thing to do. There's no need for unclear comments!" Gean asserted firmly. It wasn't just them; no one understood what was going on in Garlan's mind. The horses' hooves continued to tread until they reached the green field. It was beautifully vast, tempting someone to fall into a deep sleep beneath the dark light sky.The bonfires that emerged in the middle of the night added warmth to their bodies. One by one, their mouths told stories of their recent experiences. Forty people sat together with joyful faces, some face fading from memory, eroding the
As planned, a beautiful morning led them toward Garvaran's region. It was an unexplored territory, but bits of information had already spread here and there, reaching their ears. The two men were also discussing what awaited them in Garvaran. With his characteristic tone, Gobil exclaimed, "I can't believe we'll be going to the enchanting land of Garvaran! I've also heard the women there are very beautiful!"Their companions couldn't contain their lustful excitement, their faces filled with great anticipation that echoed in their ears."These guys are fools!" muttered Gean from a distance, but his eyes were fixed on Garlan up ahead. To his left stood a horse pulling the cart that accommodated the two men from the previous night. They were grateful not to be surrounded by the faces of warriors thirsty for anger.Garlan's eyes appeared flat, gazing silently at the green earth trampled by the horses' hooves. The flowers along the road seemed to welcome their presence, swaying in the gentl
A soldier ran hurriedly, every clink of his armor sparked curiosity towards Castelo. His ears were tired of hearing information that only brought evidence of impending defeat each time."What do you have to report, soldier?" asked Castelo, although that soldier's face seemed to carry bad news, he didn't want to hear at all."T-There's a force trying to block the enemy, but their attack has now ceased due to their movements!"His voice became a thrilling melody, his heartbeat quickened, sweat trickled down, and his trembling eyes gazed at his pale empty palms."Which troops do you mean?" He asked loudly."We don't know, but they bear the symbol of the black dragon's head!"From this explanation, someone could already deduce what was happening. The current topic of conversation among many people, the fear it evoked made it difficult for him to breathe steadily."Is this a miracle? Are they truly here to help us?" Castelo's footsteps forced him to show the scene that was unfolding before
Garlan's POV:The silhouette I see before my eyes seems to lead me toward a path often referred to as the realm of the afterlife. The gaze it carries is just like most, filled with a sarcastic air laced with a vengeance."Your Majesty!" The man in front of me kneels, his back showing utmost sincerity as he dares not lift it. "I have returned!""Oh... Prime Minister Gizor, I've been waiting for you!" Castelo said, his gaze filled with delight. He instantly looked at me with hope, and I couldn't understand why everyone who saw me would display this."Who is behind you?" Castelo asked curiously.Gizor stood tall, stretching his hand towards me and said, "Your Majesty, allow me to introduce him. He is the leader of the Black Dragon, Lord Garlan!"A name that terrifies some people. I could hear them whispering various things, strange incantations weaving foreign words. I tried to maintain a calm expression, ignoring what was happening here."Mister, are you truly Garlan, the leader of the
Garlan walked towards the room where his companions were located, his footsteps echoing in the beautifully marbled palace corridor. The price of every visible shape could be guessed, and Garlan's eyes couldn't focus, even if he tries to ignore it, on a painting on the wall—a white horse ridden by a knight in white armor. The epic impression was so powerful it took him a few seconds to move on until he reached the room.Garlan's head lifted slightly due to the strange sounds. He slowly opened the door, and bright yellow light dazzled his eyes, revealing the scene that unfolded.Everyone was filled with warm smiles, thanks to the abundant feast laid out before them. Beautiful women passed by serving food, and every gesture captivated the desires of those men.Gobil raised his eyebrows, his eyes constantly glancing toward a girl pouring wine into her cup. Her body's scent combined with her enticing curves. His heart raced without pause."Here you go, Sir!" The woman said before moving aw
The soldiers always stood watch on top of the fortress, keeping an eye on everything around them. Even the movement of a wild horse would be considered suspicious."What is that?" asked a soldier, squinting his eyes and blocking the sunlight with his fingers held above his head.Indeed, a single horse would be seen as ordinary, but what if the number of horses coming was more than a hundred? And that's what made those soldiers' feelings fill with astonishment. One by one, they shouted to alert that the enemy was approaching.Clang! Clang! Clang!Even the bells rang to support this declaration, and everyone who heard the sound became aware that something was happening. One minute later, panic ensued. The residents couldn't enjoy the sunlight anymore; fear was the only thing that drove them to hide."What's going on?" asked a large man, sitting and enjoying his wine. His face looked annoyed when a soldier approached in distress."The enemy forces have attacked the fortress!" He exclaime
The information always said he is an intelligent and tough man in combat, and now those who observe from afar can only can silent, gazing at what he will do.Garlan gives orders to the entire army, but the form of the command is silent, only a simple nod. One by one, the horses' footsteps move quickly, spreading in all directions.Above, arrows rain down relentlessly, and those present there continue to focus on calmness."Leader, I know you are the one who is most reluctant to interfere, but if we don't stand by your side now, we won't willingly die!" muttered Gean, lifting his sword. Those soldiers mercilessly face the relentless attacks with high speed. They clash one by one, competing to achieve victory. The sound of their swords fills the air, reaching the ears of those standing in tension.Awareness of the situation causes the troops to surround Garlan and his soldiers. They gather in the middle like ants in large numbers, the sharp fangs of every weapon painfully piercing to be
"She said that I must believe in the abilities within this body, which means I have to go back to the past..."The moment when one must sacrifice everyone fighting under his command, treating their lives as nothing more than tools to achieve victory. After becoming a minister, he gained a new understanding. The price of a single life was significant. Until now, he had considered lives as mere tools to attain victory. After a long time of forgetting this, he felt as though he was pushed back into his former wild spirit. No one can change this, and all time will converge at one point. Both sides appeared to have gathered with serious expressions, facing each other.Schlegel's troops wouldn't wait behind their fortress; they would directly destroy Switean's troops."What will you do this time?" Norsius asked with enthusiasm. It seemed the enemy was already starting to make their move, heading towards Liam's troops."Hehehe... so they're targeting me as their opponent? No problem, it's bo
On this extremely cold night, Garlan's face showed no sign of happiness. However, the lives of every soldier were precious; without them, this war would become even more challenging. It seemed the enemy troops were ready for attack.Rosa intentionally entered the tent to meet Garlan and found him sitting in front of a spread-out map.In reality, she feared that her presence might disturb his concentration, but she still wanted to meet with him.She began to tap softly, and when she was close enough, she said, "General..."Garlan slowly raised his head, the face of a girl he was familiar with, as he gazed at her nearly every day."What?""I apologize if I am interrupting your time, but I would like to discuss something...""Very well, please have a seat."An empty chair was occupied by the girl's body. It still felt awkward to be alone with Garlan in such a confined space. Even though there was no bed for intimacy, Rosa couldn't help but think about such things."So, what did you want
"General Garlan, I understand! Even in this filthy world, there are still those who yearn for peace. It's true that peace must be achieved with bloodied hands! Only those who truly desire it will be ready to do it..."The soldiers observed Rosa's significantly different demeanor; she was more aggressive than before. Leading them, she charged at the enemy troops. With relentless strikes, she showed no signs of fatigue until they had reached the designated stopping point. The white-clothed man glared at them with resentment. "I didn't expect to encounter a disturbance here, but she's a woman, and she's already wounded facing that slave! She can't possibly be stronger than me!"Confidently, he drew his gleaming sword, and the sunlight made it look even more magnificent. However, it didn't mean much, as Rosa had experienced before. The wielder of a weapon mattered more, no matter how splendid the weapon appeared. If she regarded her opponent as much stronger, the sword was appropriate fo
Rosa quickly backs away, sensing unresolved danger.Lattham's face shows shock as he watches blood continue to trickle from his body. He uses his left hand to wipe his chest, and his palm becomes stained with fresh blood. His eyes start to be filled with memories of the past, with fires raging and blood everywhere. His hands bear fresh bloodstains from the woman in front of him."Astrid..."His passionate cry erupts in the midst of the battle, leaving those around him confused as to who he is mourning."Astrid? Who is that?" Rosa squints her eyes after witnessing a significant change in Lattham. "What happened to him?"slowly, Lattham lifts his head, and his eyes seem sharper than before, radiating an aura of hostility. The apparition transforms Rosa, turning the fully armored knight in front of him into a grinning adversary."I will kill you..."Quickly, he takes a step forward, and their swords swing simultaneously.Cracks...Until it touches the ground where Rosa stands, the dust s
"What is this..."The long chain binding the man's hands and feet spun and then charged toward Rosa.Spontaneously, Rosa leaped from atop her horse. Unfortunately, the chain bound her horse's legs and forcibly pulled it down.A chain reaction occurred when the soldiers following Rosa collided, and dust filled the air as a result of this incident.Fortunately, some of the soldiers at the rear had managed to stop due to the sudden incidents."What's happening?" a soldier asked. As he looked ahead, the dust revealed his comrades rolling on the ground, some with their bodies badly injured.Rosa, who had managed to evade the incident, could only gape at the crazed actions of the man."What is he doing? How can he do this, and why have the enemy troops suddenly kept their distance? What's happening here?""You won't know who you're dealing with; he's a long-imprisoned slave, and his wild disposition was his characteristic, Lattham..."Lattham's head lifted, uniquely, after his earlier actio
Rosa needs to understand that using a fortress in warfare means defending within it; they can't just attack the enemy's troops directly. She already knows this from the lessons given, but she can't stand waiting for the enemy to attack."How long do I have to stay here? They've already started this war, their leaders should be responsible for what they've done..."She clenched her fists with all her might, but it was all in vain. She had to restrain the emotions inside her and wait for the right time. The soldiers there seemed much more useful than her, just watching like this was so boring, but most of the officers there were grateful not to plunge directly into the battlefield.Even in a situation like this, discussions about the plan were still ongoing, and it felt tiresome to discuss it."Now, the enemy is attacking with 700 people, which is much larger than the troops inside the fortress! The chance of winning is very small..." the leader troops warned."Of course, but if we just
They appeared surprised by the actions of the troops on top of the fort, their eyes quickly turned towards the torches intentionally used to illuminate the surroundings."Huh... do they think we're finished here? Well, we can use a bit of light to figure out our current location..."Vigilance continued as the fortress's lighting was still too dim."Leader, it seems that the enemy forces have been swept away by the attack," reported a soldier on top of the fortress. They couldn't see what was happening below, but from the visible body parts, it seemed like a large-scale massacre had occurred."So, they have indeed launched an attack!" Cold sweat dripped as he imagined a crazy action like that.Time could only be used to wait for morning; they couldn't move for the next few minutes.Remaining on high alert, when the sky began to lighten, they could finally assess their surroundings.Rosa, with her sharp eyes, observed the area and indeed saw many soldiers under her command."Are you all
"Of course, but we must not let them know about this attack! We have to strike when they believe the troops inside the fortress are just as before, only capable of defending against their attacks..." Rosa meant the most important factor, the enemy's reconnaissance scouts who were certainly ordered to monitor the fortress at various points. If they were to find out the troops inside the fortress were preparing to attack, the enemy would automatically shift to a combat-ready position."We don't know where the enemy's scouts are positioned, and, moreover, the nighttime will make our movements difficult," a weary-faced soldier pointed out."That's true, we don't know the enemy's troop locations, and, likewise, they can't confirm the attack we're planning. We need to observe first before they can execute that attack," Rosa replied. They began to understand, but there were still some incomplete details."So, who will lead the troops in the attack against the enemy?" the leader of the troop
"Hoam..."It's an annoying time. Rosa hasn't finished enjoying her sleep, but now she has to be in the room with the old men who look confused."This time they attacked us at night, targeting us when we didn't fight!" murmured the leader of the soldiers. It's indeed painful to be attacked when you want to rest.Rosa should be the one to mourn more. Her eyes blinked a few times to fight off drowsiness."Thanks to Miss Rosa's alertness, we didn't lose many soldiers!" praised one of the men.Unfortunately, Rosa didn't hear the praise clearly. Her head was down.Seeing no response, one of the men tried to wake her. "Miss Rosa!""Yes..."The man's tone was low, but Rosa's response was surprisingly strong, creating a hushed atmosphere. No one spoke for a few moments, watching this hilarious scene."Uh-oh... I've made a mistake! I don't want to return to the capital and face punishment, just like on my first day as a soldier.""Leader, if the enemy attacks again tonight, what should we do?"
