Grey moved into a small rental apartment on the outskirts of Croatway. The house was relatively small, nothing compared to the one he had lived in with Bella. He had no choice since it was what his money could afford.
The next morning, on his way to the main company where he worked, Legend Holdings, he heard his phone buzz. He looked at the screen and noticed it was a text message from his boss.
"Grey Duncan, your services are no longer needed at Legend Holdings. You've been fired!"
"How come?" Grey stood still at a spot as the news hit him like a bolt of lightning.
How could he be fired? He was an outstanding employee, hardworking and dedicated.
"But why? What have I done?" He muttered quietly?
Aside from being hardworking, he had a good standing relationship with his boss and the other staff. So how come he was fired all of a sudden?
He decided to call his boss to hear what he had to say.
"Hello, Mr Brown. I just received a message informing me of my termination from Legend Holdings..."
"Yes. I'll send you a link in a few minutes. Click on it and discover the reason for your sudden termination. I feel so shameful for you."
"But..." Before Grey could say anything more, his boss had ended the call. In less than a second, he received a new message. He quickly clicked on the video link that had been sent to him.
Upon clicking, it was an interview video, and the interviewee was no other than his wife, Bella. Grey couldn't help but sense something was not right, and soon his suspicions were confirmed.
"My husband, Grey Duncan, is such a cheat, liar, and betrayer. I have raised him out of poverty and provided him with all that I could. But instead of repaying me with love and care, he chose to betray me.
Even since we got married, he hardly touches me, but actively flirts with other women outside. He even went as far as making one of them pregnant. I really can't take it anymore. I feel so heartbroken right now. And to end all this misfortune and move on, I have decided to divorce him."
With this said, Bella burst into tears in front of the cameras, and the interviewer and others began to sympathize with her.
"How could he be so irresponsible?"
"I bet he must have married her because of money! I said so before."
"Gold digger indeed. Shame on him!"
"Some men are so shameless..." Netizens began to accuse Grey one after the other.
Within minutes, Grey became a social pariah, scorned by a world that knew nothing of his heartache, as the video went viral, and everyone in Croatway began talking about it.
"Bella, I never expected you to be so ruthless," Grey eyes widened, with anger welling up inside him.
The next day, Grey arrived at Pitts' Empire, a multi-million dollar company owned by the Pitts family, where Bella was the interim CEO. He was determined to confront her and make her apologize.
On his way, people kept giving him disapproving looks and insulted him behind his back. "Shame on him. Isn't he that ungrateful cheating rat?"
"Sure, it's him. Wonder what he's doing here. He even had the gut to come here! He's so disgusting!" The other fellow spat.
Grey ignored all that as he made his way up the stairs to Bella's office. He pushed open Bella's office door, however, before he questioned Bella, Bella, who had already received the news of his arrival from her secretary, preemptively complained.
"You ingrate, what have you come to do here?"
"Bella, it was you who cheated and got pregnant, yet you're turning the tables and blaming me? Do your parents and friends know how shameless you are?..."
Almost immediately, Grey felt a slap coming across his face, but he dodged. "How dare you? Instead of apologizing for your infidelity, you spew trash!"
Grey chuckled bitterly and coldly, "I thought you would have a sense of shame, but now it looks like you have no such thing."
With that, Grey walked out the door without looking back, leaving behind only one sentence, "Don't forget about the divorce. I can't be married to a bitch, you know?"
Fuming with embarrassment, Bella brought out her phone and called the company's security. "I demand you to shoo a bastard out of this building, NOW! IMMEDIATELY!"
However, before the security guards caught up with Grey, he was already out of sight.
Just as Grey got into a taxi, his phone rang.
"Young Master!" The voice was familiar. It was his Grandfather's Senior Butler, Robert Gibbs.
It turned out that Grey was in fact, the heir of the famous Duncan Towers, a multi-trillion-dollar empire known throughout the country of Weston. Not the low life that Bella had expected. But it didn't matter anymore.
Picking up the phone, Grey wasn't at all surprised to receive Robert's call.
After all, his name and image were all over the news due to Bella's interview. And Robert would have found out about his situation by now.
"Young Master! Your Grandfather Master Duncan wants to remind you of the bet and would like to know your final decision." After a brief exchange of greetings, Robert asked straightforwardly.
Grey's grandfather had arranged a fiancee for him, but he never liked the idea of arranged marriages. So, years ago, he had a bet with his grandfather that if he found his true love outside, he would marry her and come back two years later to inherit the family property, but if he failed, he would undergo the arranged trial for the heir and marry the lady his grandfather chose for him.
And now, after Bella’s betrayal, the bet was over. He lost and would undergo the trial arranged for the heir.
“Bring it on, I accept the challenge,” Grey stated.
“Understood, Young Master. The task that your grandfather has given you is to take over Lodswig Associates. The ownership of the company will be transferred to your name shortly.”
