Chapter 35: Attempting Third Level

At first, Chen Tu was slightly skeptical of the results. But he changed his mind after discovering that his body could still absorb more Spiritual Energy to produce a hint of Moon Essence.

Although he wasn't sure how big was his holding capacity, it shouldn't be less than two drops of Sun and Moon Essence.

(Could the amount of Sun and Moon Essence my body could hold is connected to my cultivation level? If I can store two drops at the second level of the Body Tempering Layer, would it increase to three after I advance?)

Chen Tu had an undisclosed theory. But sadly, he had no one else to share this together. And only time and familiarity with cultivation could answer his hypothesis in the future.

After circulating the Sun and Moon Condensation Art twice, Chen Tu shifted his attention to the Language Jade next. Chen Tu's consciousness immediately abandoned its physical body after injecting some Spiritual Energy into the treasure.

He arrived in the studying space once more.

To Chen Tu's surprise, the Language Jade continued from where he had stopped this morning. And once more, the lesson continued until the noise outside his room got louder.

It was already morning when Chen Tu opened his eyes again.

(This is amazing! To think that two nights' worth of studying allowed me to understand so much! But again, it made me feel that I was too stupid...)

Chen Tu chuckled and changed into a set of clean clothing before heading to the canteen. After a sumptuous breakfast, he went to the Spiritual Garden.

Because it was the beginning of the week again, Chen Tu's responsibility had returned to weed removal. But he was assigned to the Burial Root's section instead of working on where the Crimson Marble Fruit was grown.

As someone who had harvested the Burial Roots before, it was as casual as breathing for Chen Tu to notice which plant had matured. Using some of his spare time in between, Chen Tu harvested the Burial Roots before the herb surpassed its maturing age.

The Burial Root was different from the Spiritual Ginseng. Although both plants belong to the same genus, the method of harvesting them was nothing alike.

Spiritual Ginseng is well known for having stronger medicinal potency the longer they're allowed to grow. But for the Burial Root, harvesting them before the nutrients were redirected to the fruits was better.

The reason behind this was thanks to the useless fruit. The fruit had no other use except their seeds, which were used for growing another batch of Burial Root Plants. In this case, just a few fruits would be more than enough to support all the seeds they needed.

Another reason for their undesirable demand is that the fruit possesses no medicinal or food value.

Hence, Chen Tu would be praised if he harvested the matured Burial Roots before the nutrients got to the fruits. About five hours later, Chen Tu returned from the field with five Burial Roots in hand.

Because the harvesting period is over, each Burial Root harvested would only be worth a Contribution Token. With the reward for clearing the weeds from four fields and Elder Wei Xuan's promises, Chen Tu was given ten tokens for today's work.

After that, he waited for Qin Lei to finish his work before the two made their way to Elder Wei Xuan's workshop. Due to not having basics on alchemy, the two were given a thick book for each person to read.

They could only read the book for an hour or so before the rest of Elder Wei Xuan's unofficial disciples sent them away. They were told that the elder was currently preparing to fire his cauldrons.

This was a norm here, as the Pill Concocting process was very sensitive. Due to the expensive cost of raw materials and the failure rate, complete preparation and total silence are needed to avoid greater losses.

After leaving the workshop, Chen Tu and Qin Lei made their way to the canteen, and everything was about the same until they returned to their room.

The same lifestyle is repeated daily until the second week is finally over. At last, Chen Tu had formed his third drop of Sun and Moon Essence. There's also good news on his farm, where four eggs finally hatched.

Chen Tu's effort finally paid off as the number of Crimson-Tailed Pheasants increased to seven. Although half of them were still chicks, three months were all they needed to reach maturity. At that time, it will be up to Chen Tu to either keep them to continue breeding or turn them into one of the dishes on his table.

Stills, nothing could compete against the Sun and Moon Essence in importance.

After finishing his work, Chen Tu applied for a day's leave through Qin Lei before returning to his quarters. With two drops of Sun and Moon Essences in his Core, today was the time he tried to advance to the third level.

(Let's hope two drops of Sun and Moon Essences will be enough for me to advance!)

Chen Tu speaks on his own and absorbs two drops of Sun and Moon Essences into his body. The outburst of two hundred days' worth of Spiritual Energy suddenly inflated Chen Tu's body to the point it was about to burst.

Using this moment to his advantage, Chen Tu redirected the Spiritual Energy to start tempering his flesh. Those loose muscles were tightened to a certain degree, and his flesh began to firm up.

This process was just the first stage of the Body Tempering Layer, which is the stage of tempering the flesh.

In the first level's mastery, one would possess flesh that could withstand blunt force. On the second level, trying to stop the iron sword from creating wounds is possible. And upon achieving mastery on the third level, the skin and flesh would be as flexible as an arm, capable of closing any cuts or stopping blood from flowing with pure muscle strength.

Right now, Chen Tu is trying to achieve the third level, which is the stage of freely controlling one's muscles and flesh.
