Somewhere in the capital, there was silence in a certain house that was broken periodically by the sounds of some objects breaking on the floor with a thud. The servants of the household present were all wishing they could disappear at the moment but their masters had not yet dismissed them yet so they stood there with dread and trepidation. A young boy was on the bed panting out of breath and sweating as a healer carefully bandaged his injuries. Large drops of tears leaked out of his eyes but he stubbornly refused to cry out loud in the presence of his father who was pacing back and forth in the room. He gritted his teeth and said. "Father, you don't need to worry about me. I am alright..."
"It's not you I am worried about, Elif!" The middle aged man who was huge and tall snapped at his injured first son but he didn't even flinch. He kept pacing about until the healer was done with her job and had left the room before he approached him on the bed. He said angrily. "What is going to happen to our plans now that Gudmund has cut off your arm? Are you sure you did not do something to offend the Crown Prince?"
"Of course not, Father." Elif was equally perplexed about what had entered the Crown Prince to make him do such a thing to him considering their friendship. "Do you think what the rumours are saying about him is true? Has he really been possessed by a demon?"
Commander Ingouf shook his head deep in thought. "If that is the case, that old woman would've spoke up first. From the look of her face when she left the palace, I think something else is going on..."
Elif lifted up his body to lean against the pillows and walls as he suggested eagerly. "I will send my men to investigate this matter immediately!"
Commander Ingouf looked at his son and suddenly couldn't bear to see him anymore when he saw the missing place where his right arm should have been. He knew that Gudmund must have completely overpowered him in order for this sort of thing to happen and that only made him annoyed at the moment. "Forget it. You should focus on resting. You are in no condition to do anything right now."
Elif felt uneasy seeing his father act so coldly towards him so he tried to coax him gently. "Father, if you give me enough time, I am sure I can learn how to wield my sword with my other hand. Rest assured, I will-"
"We don't enough time for that." His father cut him off briskly as he stared outside the window, not seeing his son's shocked face. "I think we should allow your twin to take your place instead. That way, we won't experience any setback in our plans."
"Father!" Elif tried to stand up but his weak body would not allow him so he wobbled and fell on the floor. He watched his father leave the room with a face filled with disgust and annoyance instead of helping him off the floor. He cried out pitifully. "Father....Father! Father!"
"I am afraid that Father would not be able to help you now, Brother." An unknown voice made Elif lift up his head towards the door where he saw his younger twin leaning against the door with a happy smile. "You are now disabled so you are nothing but a liability to him. A shame that he would now avoid, just like that silly girl who chose to become a palace servant rather than to warm our beds."
"I am not in the mood to talk to you, Eluf." Elif tried to get up and return to his bed but he could not do it. His eyes reddened slightly at his miserable condition as the pain killers the healer had given him had already begun to wear off, causing him to feel an unbearable pain that threatened to make him fall unconscious. "Leave my room."
"Don't worry, I will. But I feel like you should know how you became like this or you would feel very wronged." Eluf entered the room and sat down on the chair, reveling in his brother's demise with a smirk.
Elif frowned when he heard his brother's words. He had many enemies throughout the land so it was not a surprise but none of them would dare harm him this badly. "What do you mean?"
"You don't know?" Eluf adopted a mocking horrified face as he said to him. "Who do you think gave you the advice to visit our sister in the palace after hearing the Crown Prince's sudden change of behavior? Who is that person that bribed the servants not to come to your aid and went far as to stall our father from coming to you?"
"Eluf!" Elif's face went pale when he heard his twin's words, his whole forehead was covered with sweat. Although he and his twin had never been on good terms, he could never imagine that he would scheme against him. "That was you?"
"Why do you look so shocked, brother?" Eluf unrepentantly looked at his hands while his brother struggled from the pain of losing an arm. "You should have seen this coming when you mocked me for always been under your shadow. Now that you are utterly useless to Father, I guess that just means good opportunities for me."
"I. Will. Kill. You!" Elif gritted his teeth tightly as he clenched his fist and tears dropped on his cheeks. He glared at Eluf with eyes that promised vengeance although his face was contorted from pain. "Father will hear about this and he will not let you live."
"I know." Eluf let out an evil chuckle when he saw his brother spitting out blood from his lips all of a sudden. "That's why I asked the healer to come and take care of you personally. This is your chance to say your last words..."
Elif's angry face became one of horror when he realized what his younger brother was saying but it was already too late. His insides began to churn with pain and he could feel himself taking his last breath. He could hear his twin's last words ring in his ears. "And I wouldn't be able to do this if not for my lovely woman, Princess Selene. You know right? She is coming to Krudak to kill the Crown Prince..."
Gudmund found himself in a temple, lying down on the ground when he opened his eyes as the light from the sun pierced his eyes. He immediately got up and looked around his surroundings but he could not still guess where he was. A voice reverberated across the room from behind him making him jerk away in fright. "Oh, you are finally awake!""Who are you?" Gudmund took several steps back, realizing that somehow his sword had followed him here so he pulled it out without any hesitation and aimed it at the woman dressed in a purple dress in front of him. "That's what I should be asking you, Crown Prince of Krudak." The woman seemed unperturbed about the fact that he was wielding a weapon to her face. She removed the veil that covered her face and watched him gasp in horror to her delight. "Why are you here with the heart of Hildr?""Drika..." Gudmund felt a cold chill run down his spine when he saw her face, two eyes staring at him while the third one was closed. He would have never thou
Gudmund entered the throne room alone in a confident and imposing stride as all the ten officials present bowed to him in greeting. He braided a part of his hair and held it together in a ponytail and wore an unbuttoned red knee-length jacket with his sword unsheathed as it scraped the floor without a screech. He could see his father sitting on the throne with a smile on his face as he faced a young woman dressed in a light purple dress. He pretended not to see her as he stopped a few steps in front of his father and bowed respectfully. "Greetings, Father."King Sigurd had already forgotten the fact that his son had angered him in the past as he smiled at his favorite child. "Gudmund, you are finally here. Come and greet your fiancée, she has been waiting for you for a long time."Gudmund turned to see his so-called fiancée staring at him with sharp eyes as he gave her a small smile. He had practiced for this moment since the day he woke up and realized that he had reincarnated. He s
"I missed you so much." Eluf backed her against the wall and let his hand creep under her gown as he holstered the fabric up and rubbed her bare skin. The two of them kissed passionately until they heard a faint sound and halted immediately. Both of them could hear the maids outside whispering outside the door so Selene pushed Eluf away and went out. The maids jerked up when they saw her sudden appearance and immediately knelt down. On a normal day, Selene wouldn't have minded them hearing the noise that was coming from the room but she was already in a bad mood so she gave them an annoyed look. "What are all of you doing here? Don't you have something else to do?!"All the maids were about to leave at her words when she suddenly remembered that she might need someone to attend to her later so she called out to her most trusted maid. "Rosa, you can stay behind."The young maid curtsied as Selene returned to the room where she met Eluf on her bed, already shirtless. His well muscled b
Eluf left the princess's room before sunset and when it was time, the princess finally decided to dress up and visit her so-called fiance. She planned on spending some time with him so she could find out the whereabouts of the map. As she walked through the hallway, various servants would pass by and immediately lower their heads when they saw her. She reveled in the fact that she was already accepted here as the Crown Princess of Krudak Kingdom and that meant that she could possibly wield more power than her own older sister in the future. While she was deep in her thoughts, she didn't notice a female servant approaching with a tray of food and collided with her. The servant's tray tumbled over on her dress along with its food contents, making her scream as she watched one of her favorite dresses ruin before her very eyes. "You wretched servant, how dare you?! Look at my dress!""Forgive me, Princess!" The female servant knelt down on the floor with her head lowered after she reali
Yrsa who had offended the princess had been summoned by her master so she walked across the hallway with heavy footsteps. She knew that it was right for him to punish her since he has been forced to upset his fiancée because of her. She just prayed that he wouldn't go overboard and try to kill her, she would quickly apologize to her future mistress and stay in prison. When she reached the curtains that covered the room, she immediately knelt down as the eunuch by her side announced her arrival. She dared not enter the room but instead stayed on her knees as she pleaded with her head bent low. "Your Highness, Yrsa is at fault for angering the Princess. Yrsa is willing to take any punishment to appease you."There was no response to her words for a while and that made her even more nervous. She knew from experience that masters who were calm in anger were the most dangerous to deal with as they would carefully plan how to assuage their anger. But she had no feelings of regret since thi
The chilly wind blew fiercely across the icy mountains and thick clouds shielded the sun's rays with a dense fog as three boys walked sluggishly across the place. They gritted their teeth and shivered whenever the wind touched them but still they persisted. The mountain peaks and desolate surroundings were the only things they could see in sight after walking for so long and soon the youngest of the three suddenly stumbled and fell on the thick snow. His brothers immediately stopped and turned back to carry him up with wide eyes. "Ivar! Ivar, are you okay?" The eldest one rushed to pick him up and put him at his back, grunting at the additional weight that his weak body was forced to carry but he did not relent at all. He had been using the two moons on the sky that shone bright behind the fog to navigate their path but he still hadn't been able to reach his destination and he felt a little pang of panic and regret. Just when he was contemplating whether to give up or not, an old bu
"I want revenge." After going through so many hardships, Gudmund could only say those simple words with such a heavy heart as he fought not to show any tears in front of the Goddess of War. He had a feeling that she would not appreciate it. "Our men fell on the battlefield and our homes were plundered and burned to the ground. Where were you all this while?"Hildr was a bit taken back by his question but she could not find any reason to get angry at his imprudence at the moment, especially when he showed no sign of fear or remorse. She turned her back to him and chose to stare at her sister's statue instead. "I wasn't aware of your people's plight early. When I finally found about it, I was forbidden to interfere with mortals' fate as my sister told me."Gudmund looked at her with confusion written all over his face when he heard her words. It was a bit hard for him to believe her words but he made no comment over it since he did not wish to lose his life here. "Then why did you answe
The morning sun rose slowly at the east along with some birds chirping in the air as they flew across the clouds. The light rays settled on the dust, illuminating everything in sight as a group of women left their tents with large pots heading to the river outside the guarded walls of the capital. They walked in a straight line facing a certain direction where they ventured into a jungle but they did not go deep but instead stay near the bank of the river and did their various activities with the sparkly blue water that flowed in front of them. A woman who was currently washing some clothes started a conversation with the other women around her and said. "Have you heard of the recent news happening in the palace?""You mean the Crown Prince?" Her friend looked around to make sure their conversation was not overheard by the older women who were bathing down the river. "I heard that he butchered another challenger down to the bone a few days ago. It was truly a gruesome sight.""I thou
