Hearing the voice that sounded in his mind, Constantine was not surprised by it at all. This was not the first time he had heard this voice in his mind. In fact, if it weren't for this voice, Constantine would not have been able to wake up at all and he would still be sleeping peacefully.
When Arran had first regained consciousness, it was because the owner of this voice had spoken to him at that moment when the doom had attacked him.
Before Constantine had woken up, his consciousness was hazy, and it had been floating in a space filled with clouds. Those clouds flowed freely in the air, forming many bizarre shapes that looked were actually pieces of Constantine's and Ruger's memories.
At that time, the voice had spoken to Constantine saying, "Hey kid, you've been sleeping for so long already, don't you think it's about time you woke up? If you don't, you will die, you know!"
The voice had not been loud, but the words he had spoken had impacted Constantine's hazy consciousness, sending a jolt of electricity through his mind and shocking him awake.
That was how Constantine was able to wake up and destroy the doom in the process. Ever since then, Constantine would occasionally hear this voice sounding out in his mind, pestering him to listen to him.
At first, Constantine had not paid any attention to the voice, thinking it was a side effect of his coma. It was only later he came to acknowledge the voice in his as being that of Ruger Whitebrook. the otherworldly powerful Evolver whose soul had fused with him.
Now, after three days and understanding what had happened during the past one year, he was in a coma. Constantine was prepared to confront the soul of Ruger Whitebrook, which still lingered in the depths of his consciousness.
"Kid, you're finally willing to hear me out? About time too!"
The voice of Ruger Whitebrook was young and vigorous, and there wasn't a sign that he was just a remnant piece of his soul that had not been completely fused to Constantine's soul at all.
There was a hint of complaint at being ignored by Constantine all this time in his mind, but all in all, he seemed cheerful about his situation. He didn't seem to mind his current state but was instead more worried that he was being ignored.
Inside his mind, Constantine had returned to the space filled with white clouds. This place gave him an ethereal and almost insubstantial feeling. It was as if the place was real but real at the same time and there was a faint connection to something buried deeper inside the white clouds that Constantine could barely sense.
Looking around the white clouds, it was not much different from how Constantine remembered it when he was still unconscious. There was only a single thing that was different from how he remembered it.
Looking at a certain corner of the space not far from him, seated on a patch of white clouds, there was a handsome man with short white hair and striking features like that of a sculpture. This man was sitting on that match of white cloud comfortably and he looked like some immortal being detached from the world of mortals.
Looking at this man, Constantine recognized him immediately...
This man was Ruger Whitebrook, a powerful Evolver, and heir to the Whitebrook Dukedom of the Ascended Firmament Star.
Right now, Ruger Whitebrook was looking at Constantine with a smile on his face and a carefree expression on his face.
Seeing him like this, Constantine frowned.
Facing this powerful being, Constantine felt uncomfortable and uneasy. He did not know how to interact with his powerful man, especially when he smiled like that without much emotion towards his current situation on his face... Constantine could not get a read on him. He did not know if Ruger was feeling angry or not, and this caused him to be confused.
Constantin hesitated, and he didn't speak for a long time. He simply kept looking at Ruger and thinking of how to interact with him.
This went on for a while until finally, Ruger took the initiative to speak to Constantine first.
"Look at you shaking in fear and hesitating so much. You're scared of me... that is to be expected, and it proves that you are indeed a weak and ignorant mortal. but there is no need to be afraid. As I am now, I cannot do anything to you so you can rest easy and talk to me."
Ruger's words were burnt and unkind and it was clear he didn't think much of Constantine. but still, he reassured Constantine and it finally made him relax.
Seeing as Ruger indeed had no intention to harm him, or more it was more accurate to say he couldn't do anything to him... either way, Constantine felt that it was at least safe for him to approach Ruger. in the end, Constantine took a step forward and started walking toward Ruger.
As Constantine stepped forward, the clouds moved along with him, and with every step, he took a small patch of cloud would appear below his feet to support steps and prevent him from falling. This was an unconscious act on Constantine's part and he didn't deliberately control it to be like this. He just thought of moving and the clouds automatically moved to carry him to his destination.
In a short while, Constantine was already standing in front of Ruger Whitebrook, but he stopped a short distance away from him. Although he didn't think Ruger could harm him, Constantine still decided to take some precautions and not approach him too closely.
Ruger did not pay attention to this small detail. Instead, he smiled brightly at Constantine, flashing a set of brilliant white teeth at him and saying.
"Well then, kid, how about we talk?"
Constantine frowned and immediately replied, "Don't call me kid! My name is Constantine."
"I know," Ruger responded.
"But so what? before me, you're nothing more than a kid. I'll call you as if please."
Constantine knew that Ruger was right and since he could not stop him, he decided to ignore the way he referred to him.
Looking at Ruger from head to toe, Constantine said, "You are Ruger Whitebrook, right?"
"How shocking... you know my name. But then again, you have my memories, so it's not a surprise." Ruger said sarcastically.
Constantine frowned again...
He was starting to dislike this man who was inside his mind. His tone contained complete disregard for Constantine, and his words were infuriating.
Constantine felt his temper rising, but he knew he could only endure this situation as it was. Just like there was nothing Ruger could do to him, Constantine could also not do anything to Ruger and could only let him do as he saw fit.
In the end, Constantine forced himself to calm down before he said something to Ruger.
"For somebody who is only a piece of remnant soul living inside the body of another person like a parasite, you are awfully calm about your situation. You seem so carefree. Aren't you worried about what happened to you?"
Hearing Constantine's question, Ruger Whitebrook smiled in amusement, and he waved his hands dismissively as he replied offhandedly.
"Believe me, kid, where I am from, this is not the most bizarre thing that has ever happened. If you leave as long as I have, you will learn to not be surprised and affected by many things that happen in life."
Like always, Ruger was dismissive about what happened to him, and he really didn't seem bothered by his current situation at all. His words implied that this situation was not an uncommon thing where he was from, but Constantine also sensed that this was probably Ruger's first time experiencing something like this.
Constantine had a feeling that talking to Ruger was going to be difficult to talk to, but since there was no other way to understand what was going on with him, he could only talk to Ruger and ask him directly.
"Since this is not an uncommon case, that means you must know why this happened, right?"
"Care to enlighten me... why are we like this?"
"What caused this, and how can we go back to normal?"
"Heh!" Ruger Whitebrook scoffed when Constantine asked that question. Ruger looked at Constantine like he was looking at an idiot. In fact, he actually insulted Constantine straight to his face as he replied to him. "Idiot!" "What do you think this looks like?" "Obviously, when I was trying to destroy your soul in order to possess your body, something went wrong and I was the one who ended up with his soul almost destroyed and fused to yours. As for why this happened, don't ask me because I don't know. If I did, I would have definitely prevented it from happening and I wouldn't be in this mess." "Also, before you ask, I don't know how to resolve this issue. Like before, if I have a solution, I would have already resolved this issue, so I wouldn't have to put up with an ignorant mortal like you." Ruger's words were harsh and direct. He didn't feel guilty at all as he insulted Constantine and he even mentioned how he wanted to possess Constantine's body with a straight face. It wa
If Ruger was so powerful, why then did he not just strike Constantine dead instead of going through all this grandstanding? Constantine did not take Ruger as the kind of guy that would allow others to provoke him without retaliating at all. He got this much both from Ruger's memories that he had assimilated, and their current interaction. Through Ruger's memories, Constantine could be said to have gotten an impression of what Ruger was like and his character. Through this impression, Constantine knew that Ruger wasn't feigning his carefree attitude, as he really was carefree in reality. He also knew that although this was the case, Ruger was spiteful and can be petty at times... His previous words about how the weak should be beneath the strong were an honest representation of Ruger's views on this topic. But why then did someone like this not attack Constantine as soon as he offended him? Instead, he put on a grand display of power that, after further thought, was insubstantial and
Constantine stood on a patch of cloud in dumbfounded silence as he stared at Ruger, who had already assumed his carefree attitude once more. He could not recover in time from the sudden turn of events and before he came back to his senses, some time had already passed. Ruger watched Constantine make a fool of himself in silence and he did not say anything. When Constantine finally came to his senses, he quickly looked at Ruger warily, as if he could not believe what he was saying. "Is it really over just like that?" Constantine asked once more. "This is not a trick for me to let down my guard so that you can attack me unawares, right?" Constantine was still finding it hard to believe that Ruger was just going to let everything go like that without doing anything to him. Looking at Ruger right now, he had adopted his usual carefree expression, as if what had transpired before was nothing and he couldn't be bothered to care about it at all. Suddenly, Constantine felt like a clown..
Various worries troubled Constantine as he thought about his current situation. But there was nothing he could do about this since even Ruger couldn't think of any solution to the problem. He could only deal with it as time went on.Since there was nothing to talk about anymore, Constantine was about to leave this space and get away from Ruger.Ruger also noticed Constantine's intention, but he did not try to stop him. He probably had other things to consider himself and couldn't be bothered by him.But just as Constantine was about to leave, he suddenly remembered something that Ruger had mentioned before. when Ruger had mentioned this, because Constantine had been worried about his future, he had not paid attention to it. But now, after calming down a little, Constantine finally recalled it.After coming to a stop, Constantine turned around and looked at Ruger. He asked, "Before you mentioned that, apart from your memories, I inherited other thin
Learning that he had inherited the Heavenly Constellation Lightning from Ruger, Constantine was on cloud nine. But then his mood suddenly plummeted as he hurriedly tried to calm himself down.Constantine did not lose his mind to euphoria, and he was still conscious enough to hear the rest of Ruger's words."You're blessed, but you're cursed too!"That was what Ruger said to Constantine, and hearing it gave him ominous feelings that all was not well.Looking at Ruger apprehensively, Constantine asked, "What did you mean when you said I was cursed? Did I inherit something else from you, apart from your powers?"This day was really set up to be a bad day for Constantine. it was not enough that he found out his soul was fused with another person's soul. But now he might have also inherited an unknown curse because of this. The joy that Constantine felt previously from inheriting the Heavenly Constellation Lightning was quickly dampened because o
It was in the dead of night and the streets of Boston were completely silent, with not a soul to be found. Right now, the night was a dangerous place to be in, with countless nonhuman entities prowling the streets and alleys looking for prey to feed on.Occasionally, one could make out the distant sounds of sirens ringing out in the night sky. Usually, sirens were used as a warning signal by the military to warn residents in the area to stay in their rooms and not come out because of a Doom or some other malevolent creature was found in the area.Constantine lay awake in his bed right now and he listened to the distant sounds of fighting that came from a long-distance away.Pricking up his ear, the sounds that a normal person wouldn't be able to make out from his location entered his ears clearly, as if he was present on the scene. This just proved that Constantine was no longer an ordinary human. It had been some time since Constantine spoke to Ruger. Af
Constantine found himself on a boundless plain, with nothing in sight around him. There was a blanket of gray fog everywhere around him, covering everything in sight and stretching far into the distance. The fog was very heavy...It was so thick that Constantine could not even see three feet away from himself into the distance."Hello!" Constantine called out into the fog."Anybody there?""Can anybody hear me? If you can answer me!"Over and over Constantine called, but he received no response. Even when he tried to move forward in the fog, there was nothing that came to sight apart from endless soil, earth, and fog. With the heavy fog blocking his vision, Constantine did not know where to go. He could not make any direction as he walked around blindly, hoping to find something or someone that could help him understand where he was.Constantine was confused... he didn't know how he had ended up in this place. The last thing he
When Constantine woke up, he found himself in a strange place...Constantine felt a serious headache as soon as he opened his eyes and he squinted in pain as he tried to make out his surroundings groggily.Gradually Constantine's eyes cleared up and he could finally get a clear look at his surroundings. When Constantine got a look at his surroundings, he suddenly sprang to his feet in shock and surprise.Swoosh!A sharp wind blew against Constantine, hitting his face sharply, causing it to sting in pain. A storm of dust and sand was raised by the wind and it rushed at Constantine, burying him in red earth. In the next 2 seconds, everything vanished as if they had never appeared in the first place.Cough, cough!Constantine burst into a coughing fit, spitting out the sand that had gotten into his mouth that he had failed to close in time due to his surprise."Cough! Damn it, what the hell is this... I've got sand in my mouth, eyes, nos
