If Ruger was so powerful, why then did he not just strike Constantine dead instead of going through all this grandstanding?
Constantine did not take Ruger as the kind of guy that would allow others to provoke him without retaliating at all. He got this much both from Ruger's memories that he had assimilated, and their current interaction.
Through Ruger's memories, Constantine could be said to have gotten an impression of what Ruger was like and his character. Through this impression, Constantine knew that Ruger wasn't feigning his carefree attitude, as he really was carefree in reality. He also knew that although this was the case, Ruger was spiteful and can be petty at times...
His previous words about how the weak should be beneath the strong were an honest representation of Ruger's views on this topic. But why then did someone like this not attack Constantine as soon as he offended him? Instead, he put on a grand display of power that, after further thought, was insubstantial and contained no real might.
It was like how a kitten would bare its fangs when it felt threatened... it might look imposing, but apart from that, there was no real threat.
Constantine gradually analyzed these points, and he felt that there was a 90% chance that Ruger was only trying to intimidate him and that he really could not harm him in any way. The reason why Constantine was not 100% certain was so he would sound overconfident. But basically, Constantine no longer felt as fearful of Ruger as before...
Putting up with the pressure that was being exerted on his mind and will. Constantine put on the most derisory expression he could make and he said to Ruger.
"Humph! What are you being all pompous about? did my words hit you where it hurts... what can't take it?"
"What's the use of all this grandstanding display of power when you are, in fact, a soft persimmon that cannot hurt a fly in your current state? Don't forget, you're not the heir of the Whitebrook Dukedom anymore. instead, you're a loser who failed to possess and body of a common mortal and ended up trapped in a cell of your own making."
"Are you ashamed of yourself for showing off your nonexistent powers... if you're so powerful, then why don't you strike me down this moment with a bolt of lightning-like how you did when you wanted to possess my body?"
"I dare you!"
Constantine summoned up his courage to say all those words to Ruger, and he did not spare his harsh criticism of him in his words.
Constantine mainly did this to test if his guess was true and that Ruger could really do nothing to him.
Constantine knew the consequences of his being wrong. It is very likely that Ruger would really smite him with a bolt of lightning and destroy his soul. But if he was right, then he would have the courage to further interact with Ruger, knowing that he held the advantage.
After Constantine finished saying his piece, in the next moment, the storm clouds and snaking bolts of lightning suddenly intensified and went through a transformation.
If before the dark clouds were like a large flock of angry birds hovering overhead waiting to rain down their fury on Constantine, right now, they were like a pack of ravenous wolves gathering around Constantine, waiting to pounce on him and tear him to shreds. The sound of thunder blasting in there was like the howls of a wolf pack sending a chill down the spines of their prey.
Before, Constantine might have felt that the clouds held incredible power. But now he could clearly feel a horrible killing intent hidden within the storm clouds, just waiting to erupt. This killing intent chilled Constantine's heart, causing his breath to come out in short gasps as he found it difficult to breathe.
Right now, Constantine was already regretting provoking Ruger so much.
Wasn't it good that he could keep his life if he knelt down before Ruger... why did he have to go and provoke this calamity and bring a disaster on his head?
This thought was going through Constantine's mind. But he still refused to give up... he was determined to remain defiant until the end!
Anyway, he had already offended Ruger this much. It made no difference if he apologized now. Constantine doubted that Ruger would forgive him at all. Since that was the case, then why not go all out and offend Ruger to the very end?
When Constantine thought of this, he was no longer as afraid as before... in fact, all traces of fear disappeared from his eyes and it was replaced with craziness as he resolved himself to disgust Ruger until he dropped dead.
In truth, this was just how people were when faced with a desperate situation like they were facing a powerful opponent. If there was a chance to resolve the issue without suffering much damage, most people would jump at the chance to do that. But if all hope was lost and there was no way to resolve the matter, others may accept their fate as it was. But a very few amount of people would decide to fight back with all their power and take their opponent down with them or at least disgust them as much as possible so that they wouldn't be satisfied with their victory.
That was exactly what Constantine did... as soon as he saw no way to avoid offending Ruger and making him angry, he simply decided to offend him even more and make him as angry as possible. This way, even if Constantine suffered, he would give Ruger the satisfaction of seeing him beg.
Immediately, Constantine started spewing forth vitriol from his gut and showered them on Ruger.
"Wow, look at this big man... he is so powerful, so mighty, he can kill me with a single thought. Boohoo, how scared I am... not!"
"What! Did you think I would be frightened if you make the clouds very angry and sparkle like a fireworks show? were you expecting me to shiver in my boots and piss myself in terror?"
"Humph, let me tell you now, even if I have to suffer from being struck by lightning today, I will not give you that satisfaction. I'd rather die than behave in such a manner in front of you! Right now, I am very determined to disgust you to death. I may not be able to do anything to you, but let's see who can disgust the other person more."
"Come on... I am here. You can strike me with lightning and end my life, or you can watch me spray venom all over you."
Constantine had completely lost his mind, and he took on the approach of I cannot defeat you, but I can still disgust you to death.
Constantine was completely suicidal, and he was completely bent on dying together with Ruger.
Those words were not all Constantine had to say to Ruger, and he was already prepared to say even more harsh and disgusting things to him when suddenly, Ruger actually spoke up after keeping silent all this time.
"Sigh!" Ruger sighed.
"I should have known I would be able to intimidate you in this manner... now I had put up with your unsightly display."
"Whatever, it's over... let's just stop here."
Ruger's words were spoken softly, but they could still be heard clearly despite the rumbles of thunder in the air.
In the end, Constantine, who was preparing to deliver another round of venom on Ruger, was caught off guard and he stood dumbly in the air like a fool.
In the end, the only response Constantine could utter was, "Eh!"
Ruger looked at the dumbfounded Constantine and chuckled lightly, sounding like a clear bell chime on a bright summer morning. In the next moment, with the sound of Ruger laughing at Constantine, the dark clouds dissipated and the bolts of lightning and rumbles of thunder faded away as if they had never existed in the first place.
Everything returned to how they were before and there were only white clouds, as well as Constantine and Ruger.
Constantine looked at all this in surprise and he asked a very silly question.
"It is over?"
"Just like that?"
"Of course, it is over," Ruger replied.
"Do I look like I have all the time in the universe to play with you?"
"Brat! I admire your courage... or rather, your craziness suits my style very well, so I will overlook all you just said to me just now."
"Right now, it is about time we got down to serious business."
Constantine stood on a patch of cloud in dumbfounded silence as he stared at Ruger, who had already assumed his carefree attitude once more. He could not recover in time from the sudden turn of events and before he came back to his senses, some time had already passed. Ruger watched Constantine make a fool of himself in silence and he did not say anything. When Constantine finally came to his senses, he quickly looked at Ruger warily, as if he could not believe what he was saying. "Is it really over just like that?" Constantine asked once more. "This is not a trick for me to let down my guard so that you can attack me unawares, right?" Constantine was still finding it hard to believe that Ruger was just going to let everything go like that without doing anything to him. Looking at Ruger right now, he had adopted his usual carefree expression, as if what had transpired before was nothing and he couldn't be bothered to care about it at all. Suddenly, Constantine felt like a clown..
Various worries troubled Constantine as he thought about his current situation. But there was nothing he could do about this since even Ruger couldn't think of any solution to the problem. He could only deal with it as time went on.Since there was nothing to talk about anymore, Constantine was about to leave this space and get away from Ruger.Ruger also noticed Constantine's intention, but he did not try to stop him. He probably had other things to consider himself and couldn't be bothered by him.But just as Constantine was about to leave, he suddenly remembered something that Ruger had mentioned before. when Ruger had mentioned this, because Constantine had been worried about his future, he had not paid attention to it. But now, after calming down a little, Constantine finally recalled it.After coming to a stop, Constantine turned around and looked at Ruger. He asked, "Before you mentioned that, apart from your memories, I inherited other thin
Learning that he had inherited the Heavenly Constellation Lightning from Ruger, Constantine was on cloud nine. But then his mood suddenly plummeted as he hurriedly tried to calm himself down.Constantine did not lose his mind to euphoria, and he was still conscious enough to hear the rest of Ruger's words."You're blessed, but you're cursed too!"That was what Ruger said to Constantine, and hearing it gave him ominous feelings that all was not well.Looking at Ruger apprehensively, Constantine asked, "What did you mean when you said I was cursed? Did I inherit something else from you, apart from your powers?"This day was really set up to be a bad day for Constantine. it was not enough that he found out his soul was fused with another person's soul. But now he might have also inherited an unknown curse because of this. The joy that Constantine felt previously from inheriting the Heavenly Constellation Lightning was quickly dampened because o
It was in the dead of night and the streets of Boston were completely silent, with not a soul to be found. Right now, the night was a dangerous place to be in, with countless nonhuman entities prowling the streets and alleys looking for prey to feed on.Occasionally, one could make out the distant sounds of sirens ringing out in the night sky. Usually, sirens were used as a warning signal by the military to warn residents in the area to stay in their rooms and not come out because of a Doom or some other malevolent creature was found in the area.Constantine lay awake in his bed right now and he listened to the distant sounds of fighting that came from a long-distance away.Pricking up his ear, the sounds that a normal person wouldn't be able to make out from his location entered his ears clearly, as if he was present on the scene. This just proved that Constantine was no longer an ordinary human. It had been some time since Constantine spoke to Ruger. Af
Constantine found himself on a boundless plain, with nothing in sight around him. There was a blanket of gray fog everywhere around him, covering everything in sight and stretching far into the distance. The fog was very heavy...It was so thick that Constantine could not even see three feet away from himself into the distance."Hello!" Constantine called out into the fog."Anybody there?""Can anybody hear me? If you can answer me!"Over and over Constantine called, but he received no response. Even when he tried to move forward in the fog, there was nothing that came to sight apart from endless soil, earth, and fog. With the heavy fog blocking his vision, Constantine did not know where to go. He could not make any direction as he walked around blindly, hoping to find something or someone that could help him understand where he was.Constantine was confused... he didn't know how he had ended up in this place. The last thing he
When Constantine woke up, he found himself in a strange place...Constantine felt a serious headache as soon as he opened his eyes and he squinted in pain as he tried to make out his surroundings groggily.Gradually Constantine's eyes cleared up and he could finally get a clear look at his surroundings. When Constantine got a look at his surroundings, he suddenly sprang to his feet in shock and surprise.Swoosh!A sharp wind blew against Constantine, hitting his face sharply, causing it to sting in pain. A storm of dust and sand was raised by the wind and it rushed at Constantine, burying him in red earth. In the next 2 seconds, everything vanished as if they had never appeared in the first place.Cough, cough!Constantine burst into a coughing fit, spitting out the sand that had gotten into his mouth that he had failed to close in time due to his surprise."Cough! Damn it, what the hell is this... I've got sand in my mouth, eyes, nos
Constantine stood fearfully in place, shivering in trepidation as he saw the approaching sandstorm that carried an unknown danger in it. A feeling of crisis overwhelmed Constantine's senses and he immediately went into a fight-or-flight mode.A lot of contradictory feelings went through Constantine as he considered whether to wait and see what was coming or abandon all other thoughts and flee, just as Ruger had advised.Constantine could agree that the main reason why he hadn't run away yet was that he didn't want to do as Ruger said after telling him he didn't need his help. If Constantine was to flee now, then what he had said to Ruger would have no meaning anymore, and it would be nothing more than a joke. This caused him to hesitate, and he couldn't make up his mind. It was at this point that Ruger's voice sounded once again in his head as he said to him."Humph, kids, always so stubborn and prideful for no reason. I wonder which is more important to
"Oi brat, are you having fun?" Ruger's voice came as he said sarcastically.Just as Constantine was at the end of his rope, Ruger's voice finally sounded in his head. Although Constantine usually found Ruger's voice to be very annoying, at this moment of his greatest despair, Ruger's voice could not be any sweeter in Constantine's ear.Completely ignoring Ruger's sarcastic words, Constantine frantically shouted at him."Old man, you're finally here. quick do something, I'm about to be run over!""You... who are you calling an old man? For your information, I am only 3000 years old. I am still in the prime of my youth." Ruger bragged.'3000 years was not old!!!' Constantine thought in his mind. He had an incredible urge to comment on that right now, but he quickly shook his head and removed that thought from his mind. Now was not the time to deal with that.In the end, Constantine responded, "Wow, you're so young. How powerful... you're simpl
