The Awakening Of Lightning And Thunder

As soon as Constantine gave the go-ahead, Ruger acted quickly as he immediately exerted the remaining power of his soul that was had yet to completely fuse with Constantine, burrowed deep within Constantine's soul, and merged together.

Ruger was very familiar with this process, as he had done it many times over the course of one year.

While Constantine had been in a coma for the past year, Ruger had actually already woken up to learn of his failure in possessing the boy. At first, when he learned that he had failed, Ruger had not been too concerned about it. Knowing that a mortal's soul was ultimately weak, it wouldn't be able to bear the weight of his powerful soul. This was clear since Constantine had yet to wake up.

It was because Ruger's soul was too powerful for Constantine to absorb everything at once that he had fallen asleep to slowly merge with Ruger's soul.

Ruger felt that this was a chance for him to try to possess Constantine's soul again, so after resting for a while he had attempted the possession once again.

The result was that it ended its failure with Ruger suffering even greater consequences than before. This time, Ruger had to recover for a longer period of time. That was when Ruger felt that something was wrong, but he refused to believe he couldn't take over a mortal's soul.

Over and over again, Ruger tried, and each time ended in his failure, and the more he tried, the weaker his remaining bit of soul power became. If he was to continue, not only would Ruger fail to possess Constantine, but he might end up losing the remaining portion of his soul and finally fade out of existence.

It was at this point that Ruger accepted the fact that he couldn't possess Constantine. his speculation was that after his first attempt at possessing Constantine failed and he had absorbed a lot of Ruger's soul power, Constantine had developed something akin to resistance to Ruger's soul.... like he had set up a firewall of sorts to defend against Ruger attempting to possess him once more.

Actually, instead of resistance to Ruger's soul, it was more accurate to call it an appetite towards Ruger's remaining soul power. It was like Constantine's soul that was gradually fusing with Ruger's soul had developed a hunger for Ruger's remaining soul power, wanting to devour it anytime Ruger tried to possess him.

Ruger could clearly sense his hunger from Constantine's soul every time he tried and failed, which was why he was always weakened after every attempt. It was because Ruger always lost a part of his remaining soul power to Constantine as it was consumed by Constantine's hungry soul.

Finally, Ruger came to the conclusion that without Constantine being conscious and willingly allowing Ruger to possess his body of his own volition, the chances of Ruger successfully possessing Constantine and taking over his body were very slim and it would always end in failure.

After that, Ruger stopped attempting to forcefully possess Constantine. Instead, he slowly planned, schemed, and waited for an opportunity to arise where he would trick Constantine into letting down his guard and lowering the defenses in his soul. If everything was successful, Ruger would finally get all his power back and Constantine would be no more!

Finally, after waiting for a long time, the time had finally come and Constantine had let down the defenses in his soul.

As Ruger's remaining piece of soul fell deeper into Constantine's soul and merged with it, Ruger could feel a strong pressure bearing down on his soul power. This pressure was like a flood that wanted to drown Ruger's remaining soul and devour all his power. The deeper Ruger went, the stronger the pressure.

Ruger felt an instinctive fear towards this pressure. This discovery shocked him so much that he blanked out for a moment there.

Inwardly, Ruger was thinking to himself in shock.

'I am afraid?'

'I, the all-mighty Ruger Whitebrook, am afraid of a mere mortal!'

'Pathetic!!!'

Ruger forced himself to calm down and stop the feeling of fear rising up within him. Although he refused to admit it, Ruger knew that he was in a very dangerous state right now. If he was not careful, his remaining soul may end up vanishing and fusing with Constantine's soul vessel at any moment.

Right now, Constantine was still in control of his own body... although he didn't know how to defend himself against Ruger, as long as he felt threatened, his soul vessel would act on instinct to defend him and would try to devour Ruger's remaining soul. in that case, Ruger would definitely lose all chance of possessing Constantine again and, since he was already very deep within Constantine's soul vessel, he might not be able to come out again.

This is the reason why Ruger did not do anything suspicious, even if he was already so deep inside Constantine's soul vessel. Instead, he gradually exerted effort to slowly guide his power to reach deep into Constantine and tap into powers that were buried deep within him but could not unlock.

Anyway, it didn't matter if Ruger did not act now. As long as he was still deep inside Constantine's soul vessel and could control a part of his body, he would have the chance to attempt possession sooner or later.

Besides, he still needed to get Constantine out of danger right now. If not, there was no need to talk about taking over Constantine's body. They were very likely to perish here instead.

Unlike Constantine, Ruger was much more sensitive, and he could clearly sense how terrifyingly powerful that hill-like creature at the back was. When Ruger was at his peak, a creature like this would be like an ant in front of him, and he wouldn't be bothered to even look at it. But now in this state where he had to rely on Constantine to live, that creature was enough to threaten him.

Constantine was right when he said that if he died, Ruger would also die, too. Naturally, Ruger, who was planning to make a comeback by seizing control over Constantine's body, didn't want to die yet, so he still had to save the kid even though he would rather see him dead.

Possessing Constantine could come later... right now, the two of them needed to get far away from here to a safe where Ruger could begin his plans.

It would also take a period of time for Ruger to completely take over Constantine's body, as he would first have to trap his will and consciousness and slowly erase it so that Constantine's body would eventually be hit.

Ruger removed every stray thought from his mind and focused on awakening the power sleeping within Constantine's body. He could still feel the pressure that wanted to consume him bearing down on him. If it was possible, rugger's soul form would actually be sweating right now.

Fortunately, Constantine did not resist, so the pressure did not do anything to Ruger. But working in this tense situation really affected Ruger a lot, as it consumed twice as much energy as he had anticipated to wake up Constantine's dormant powers.

In the end, Ruger succeeded, and he successfully awakened the power of constellation lightning.

Outside as Constantine was running for his life...

Constantine was already incredibly tired and he could no longer dig up any strength to run anymore.

The dooms that Constantine had left behind had already managed to catch up and were about to pounce on him.

One doom specifically that was a bit larger than the others in the front suddenly contracted its body inwards and started to gradually flatten rapidly. In the next moment, when the originally swollen body was flattened to a considerable extent, it suddenly ballooned up once more and increased back to its original size.

As soon as this happened, the doom's strength seemed to suddenly surge and its speed increased by more than two times and he shot towards the fleeing Constantine, blasting all the other dooms around it away and causing a huge scene.

Constantine was attracted to the commotion behind him and looked back to see what had happened. But what greeted him that was the giant ugly maw of the doom that was opened even wider than a hippo's as it sought to devour Constantine whole.

A putrid smell assaulted Constantine's nostrils and the dark depths of the doom's mouth were like a frightening abyss beckoning into him.

Constantine's mind went blank and only one thought ran through his mind.

'I'm going to die!'

This was Constantine's final thought at that moment. But in the next moment, like a suppressed ocean tide, a terrible power awoke from deep within Constantine's body and it erupted like a volcano rushing from the earth or an endlessly breaking tide.

The sky darkened and lightning rushed into the sky accompanied by the terrible roar of thunder that drowned the whole world in terror.
